Chapter 155: Meeting Abigail’s Grandma
Chapter 155: Meeting Abigail’s Grandma
Abigail chuckled. "I called the client and asked him to terminate his contract with Urbangrid. It was purely speculation from me. Fortunately, he agreed to my request..."
"Are you sure I don’t need to teach him a lesson?" Sawyer asked, still upset that someone had claimed credit for something they didn’t do to trap Abigail. His anger simmered, and he wanted to punish Ryland for lying to her.
Abigail’s heart fluttered at Sawyer’s concern; it was clear how much he cared for her and wanted to defend her.
"Hmm, you don’t have to do anything," Abigail replied. "That man’s company is already suffering. I believe they will go bankrupt soon!" She smiled at Sawyer, noticing his anger begin to lessen.
Sawyer felt relief at her words. However, he made a mental note to ask Ethan to speed up the process of bankrupting Urbangrid Innovation. He could not let Ryland Wood live comfortably and peacefully after what he had done to Abigail.
Abigail sighed in relief after honestly sharing everything that had happened that day with Sawyer.
"Thank you, Sawyer, for listening to me. Gosh! Now I feel like the burden of hiding this story from everyone has finally lifted after sharing it with you." Her expression brightened as she smiled happily.
Sawyer’s gaze faltered as he heard her words. He felt guilty for not being honest with her sooner. She might not have fallen for Ryland’s trick if he had told her earlier.
"We’ve been talking for too long, Sawyer. Let’s go inside; Grandma must be waiting for us." Abigail pulled him along, trying to adjust her expression so that her grandmother would not sense her current mood.
"Abby, please wait—"
"Hmm? What’s wrong?" Abigail paused and turned to face him.
"I’m sorry for not telling you this earlier..." he said, sighing deeply as his eyes locked onto her gray ones. He could see the confusion in her gaze as she stared back at him. "I’m the one who paid for your grandmother’s hospital bill."
Abigail was utterly shocked. Her eyes widened as she met Sawyer’s gaze. She opened her mouth several times but couldn’t find the words to express her surprise. She never imagined he was the one who had helped her family in that way.
When she finally began to string words together, she heard her grandmother calling her name from behind.
"Abby, is that you...? Why are you just standing there and not coming in to see me?" Sophie Lewis asked, looking confused.
A few minutes ago, Sophie Lewis received a call from Rosa, telling her that Abigail had arrived with a handsome man.
However, after waiting several minutes, her granddaughter did not appear in her room. Unable to contain her eagerness to see Abigail’s boyfriend any longer, Sophie left her room in her wheelchair.
Startled by her grandmother’s voice, Abigail adjusted her expression. Then she smiled and hurried to her grandmother’s side.
"Grandma, I’m so sorry to keep you waiting," Abigail said, her smile widening as she ran toward her grandmother. She completely forgot about Sawyer, who remained in place, his eyes fixed on the beautiful elderly woman in the wheelchair.
"Why aren’t you two talking in the corridor?" Sophie Lewis asked, holding Abigail’s hand while glancing at Sawyer. "Abby, who is this handsome man? Is he your boyfriend?"
Feeling guilty for momentarily neglecting Sawyer, Abigail turned to him. She stifled a laugh at the sight of his tense expression.
"Sawyer, come here and greet my Grandma."
As if pulled back to reality, Sawyer nervously smiled and approached them. "Ms. Lewis, it’s an honor to meet you. I’m Sawyer, Abigail’s boyfriend," he said, extending his hand to shake Sophie Lewis’s hand with a polite smile.
"Oh my lord, Abby... you finally found a handsome and kind man to be my future grandson-in-law!" Sophie Lewis excitedly exclaimed with a broad, happy smile as she held Sawyer’s hand.
Her eyes remained fixed on Sawyer, and she felt a wave of happiness envelop her. Through Sawyer’s gaze, she could sense the honesty and kindness within him, which relieved her because Abigail had chosen someone far better than Ryland.
"I’m so happy to meet you, too, Sawyer," Sophie said softly, gently patting his hand. She then turned her attention back to her granddaughter.
"Abby, congratulations, my dear! You’ve fulfilled your promise to bring a handsome grandson-in-law to meet me. Grandma is so happy and grateful..." Sophie laughed when she saw her shy granddaughter.
Abigail blushed at her grandmother’s words. She had already imagined how Grandma would call Sawyer her grandson-in-law the first time they met.
"Alright... Grandma, let’s talk inside. We might disturb other people if we continue talking here," Abigail said, wanting to distract her grandmother and avoid further embarrassment. She hurriedly pushed her grandmother’s wheelchair and gestured for Sawyer to follow them inside.
...
Abigail sat beside her grandmother while Sawyer occupied the single sofa opposite them. She had never felt this nervous about introducing her grandmother to Sawyer.
However, her worries quickly faded as she noticed how relaxed and confident Sawyer was while chatting with her grandmother. This brought her a sense of relief.
Abigail didn’t join much in their conversation; she only listened as her grandmother asked Sawyer about his work. She was no longer surprised to hear Sawyer talk about his business, which was similar to what he had previously shared with her—he invested in several companies.
They were already close in just a few minutes of talking, as if they had met several times. Sawyer no longer addressed Sophie Lewis formally; he began calling her "Grandma," just like Abigail did.
Abigail was impressed by Sawyer’s ability to win her grandmother over so quickly and effortlessly. He indeed had a talent for charming her.
’Gosh, Abby! You worried for nothing,’ she thought, laughing to herself.
As Abigail prepared to excuse herself to prepare lunch, her Grandma’s question halted her.
"Sawyer, I forgot to ask. What is your last name?" Sophie asked.
"Sorry, Grandma. I forgot to tell you. My last name is Jones," Sawyer replied.
Sophie’s heart skipped a beat when she heard Sawyer’s last name. A look of worry crossed her face as she asked, "Sawyer Jones?" She wanted to confirm she had heard it correctly.
