Chapter 153: Her Anxiety
Chapter 153: Her Anxiety
As their car pulled away from the house, Abigail glanced at Sawyer and was surprised to find him looking at her. His gaze was warm and gentle.
She leaned closer and whispered, "You look sleepy, Sawyer. You must be uncomfortable sleeping on the couch. That’s why you couldn’t sleep last night."
He smiled, taking her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze before resting it on his lap.
"How do you know? Did you peek at me while I was sleeping?" he asked casually, but his words warmed her cheeks.
She shot him a glare, hoping to stop his teasing. After all, they weren’t alone in the car, and his words made her shy.
"I’m serious, Sawyer," she chided softly before continuing, "You’re still tired, and that’s why you can’t drive, right?"
Sawyer didn’t rush to answer her. Instead, he turned his gaze to the front row.
"Vincent, raise the partition, please," Sawyer instructed before returning his gaze to Abigail. Noting her blush, he whispered, "If I drive, I can’t cuddle you, Abby. That’s my reason for bringing them—"
Abigail, "..."
Before Abigail could respond, a partition slowly ascended, separating them with a barrier in just a few seconds. Brody and Vincent couldn’t see them or hear what was happening behind the partition.
"Sawyer, you—" Her voice trailed off as she saw Sawyer’s face coming closer. She held her breath, unable to move.
Sawyer stopped just a few inches from her face. "And if I drive, I can’t kiss you," he said, leaning in and kissing her lips, sending her heart racing miles per second.

Autumn Garden Nursing House.
As soon as their car stopped in the Autumn Garden nursing home lobby, Abigail felt a wave of tension wash over her. For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, she worried that her Grandmother wouldn’t like Sawyer.
"Abby, why do you look tense?" Sawyer asked, pulling her out of her thoughts. He stood beside the car, extending his hand to help her out.
She managed a slight smile before accepting his offer and stepping out.
"Is it that obvious?" Abigail replied calmly, even though her heart raced with anxiety.
"Yes, it is," Sawyer chuckled, and she could feel her hand grow cold in his grip. "Don’t worry. I promise I will make sure your grandma likes me."
"You better! Because if she doesn’t..." Abigail’s words trailed off as Sawyer interrupted her.
"Don’t say what you’re thinking, Abby. I’m afraid God might hear you and grant whatever you wish," Sawyer said casually. However, he felt a knot of worry forming in his stomach at the thought of her Grandmother finding him unlikeable.
What worried Sawyer now was that Abigail had recently ended her engagement with her ex because he cheated on her. This situation could make Abigail’s Grandmother more cautious about accepting potential husbands for her granddaughter.
Abigail stifled a laugh when she saw Sawyer become nervous. The calmness in his eyes during their trip had disappeared. He seemed so confident then.
"I think you misunderstood what I’m trying to say, Sawyer," Abigail said, wanting to ease his worries.
"Oh? What do you mean?" Sawyer asked, curious.
Earlier, Sawyer had thought Abigail would say she would follow her grandma’s decision and leave him. The thought broke his heart, but deep down, he never believed it would actually happen.
"If she doesn’t like you, we might be in trouble. We’ll have to work hard to convince her," Abigail explained.
Upon hearing this, Sawyer felt a weight lift off his shoulders. He was relieved that Abigail shared his concerns. Knowing she wouldn’t run away made him happy as if he were soaring to cloud nine.
"Sawyer, let’s go inside. We’ve wasted a lot of time here," Abigail urged, ready to enter. But Sawyer stopped her.
"What’s wrong? Did you forget something in the car?" she asked, noticing him walking towards the trunk.
After a moment, he returned and held several shopping bags in his hand, which surprised her.
"Y-You brought presents for Grandma?"
Abigail was taken aback. She hadn’t expected him to bring presents for her Grandmother.
"Of course! How could I meet your Grandmother empty-handed? Not when this is my first time meeting her; I trust first impressions last. I hope these gifts will do that besides my charm," Sawyer replied with a loving smile as he walked closer. Alright, let’s go. Show me the way to her room," he said excitedly.
Abigail felt touched to see Sawyer showing his respect for her Grandmother by bringing her many expensive gifts and a joyous vibe. She hurried inside and, after talking with the staff in the lobby, led Sawyer toward her Grandmother’s room.
However, before they reached the room, someone called out to Abigail from behind, prompting her to stop and turn toward the voice.
"Nurse Rosa..." Abigail greeted Aunty Rosa as she approached her.
Sawyer also stopped but remained respectfully distant to give them privacy. He observed Abigail hugging the nurse, and when the nurse smiled at him, he responded with a slight nod. ...
Rosa was curious about the handsome, tall man waiting for Abigail. She suspected he was her new boyfriend.
"Abigail, is that handsome man your boyfriend?"
"Yes, Aunt Rosa, that man is my boyfriend," Abigail replied shyly. She felt embarrassed to tell Aunt Rosa this, especially since she knew about her previous relationship with Ryland and had not informed her about their breakup.
"Oh my goodness, he’s so handsome and looks friendlier than your scum ex-fiancé, Abigail," Rosa said, gently holding Abigail’s hand. Her eyes radiated genuine happiness.
Abigail was taken aback. How does she know? She remembered that she never told her about her terrible breakup.
"I’m glad you finally opened your heart again to another man after what that stupid Ryland did to you," Rosa added, her eyes flashing angrily.
"Aunty, how do you know about that?" Abigail asked.
"Who else could have told me? Your Grandmother, of course," Rosa laughed before continuing. "When she told me, I felt like... I wanted to slap that awful Ryland. How dare he—"
Abigail interrupted her, "Aunty, let’s not talk about that scum anymore. He was in the past, and I’ve already forgotten about him. Plus, my boyfriend might get jealous if we discuss it now..." She smiled, feeling relieved when she saw Aunty Rosa nodding in agreement.
