Chapter 128: Stay Here!
Chapter 128: Stay Here!
"Now you understand why I had to hide my identity from you, right?" Sawyer asked, taking her hand and kissing it gently.
"Yeah..."
Sawyer sighed deeply before he said, "I’m so frightened that you will run away from me, Abby. Especially when Brody was so daring, calling you my girlfriend when we had not even started dating."
Abigail couldn’t help but laugh as she recalled what happened that night. "Hahaha, I remember that. It was the first time you came to my home, right?"
"Yes. That time, I forgot to tell Brody I would drive you home. That’s why he immediately opened the gate when he saw my car."
"I still cannot imagine how you successfully hid your real identity and fooled me that night, Mr. Jones." She narrowed her eyes at him.
Just as Abigail was about to scold him for deceiving her, her stomach growled. She stifled a laugh, too shy to make such a sound.
"Abby, we need to go down now. You need to eat..." Sawyer felt relieved that he no longer needed to discuss those topics, avoiding her getting mad.
He stood up from the bed and offered her a hand to get out, but Abigail didn’t move; she was still sitting on the bed, looking at him with a puzzled expression.
"What happened?" Sawyer asked, worried she felt discomfort.
"Can you return my clothes?" Abigail asked shyly. "I can’t appear before other people wearing this."
She couldn’t appear at his dining table in his oversized pajamas, right? She was sure she would officially meet some of Sawyer’s staff downstairs, not as a tenant of this residence but as his girlfriend.
Sawyer chuckled when he saw her blushing again. "Abby, don’t say that to me. Remember, I’m the one who changed your clothes..." he said casually, still offering his hand to help her.
"Gosh! I’m not shy of you, Sawyer. You are NOT other people. But every one of your staff is. How could I wear this in front of your people downstairs?" Abigail responded, throwing the blanket that covered half her body, exposing her skin from her thighs to her legs, before leaving the bed.
She saw his eyes widen as he looked at her feet. A teasing smile slowly appeared on her lips as she walked to the door. "Alright, then. Let’s go!"
"Stop, Abby!" Sawyer rushed to the door and stood blocking her way.
"Huh!? Why did you stop me? Didn’t you say earlier I don’t need to be shy?" Abigail stifled a laugh, noticing how panicked he looked. She knew exactly what he was thinking, and it was fun to tease him now.
Sawyer silently gulped, looking at how sexy Abigail was. Even though she only wore his silk oversized pajamas, her curves were still slightly visible in certain areas. And the shirt was too short, barely covering her fair skin near her mid-thigh. If his people saw her now, their imaginations would definitely go wild.
"Stay here, Abby!" Sawyer smiled faintly. He felt defeated, realizing his mistake. How could he let another man see her in these revealing clothes? He wanted to keep this side of her for himself only.
"Are you sure?" Abigail asked sarcastically, trying to tease him. "I don’t mind going there wearing this. This is much better to cover me than the short pajamas I usually wear..." She continued while checking her body.
Instantly, Sawyer felt dizzy hearing her words. His mind started recalling when he saw her wearing the short silk pajamas in his cabin. He couldn’t sleep that night because his thoughts were filled with her.
"I will bring your clothes. I already asked someone to wash them," he explained before walking out.
Abigail smiled as she watched him rush to leave the room.
Later, she was drawn to the French window in the corner. She walked there to see the scenery, doubting he was staying in the same building. She needed to see it for herself to believe him.
When Abigail saw the scenery outside, she was instantly at a loss for words; it was the same backyard garden she usually saw from her bedroom.
Amused, she laughed softly, imagining they had been sleeping under the same roof on different floors. And all this time, when he visited her house, every time she insisted on walking him to his car, he pretended to drive away from his own home.
’Gosh! Sawyer, you are so funny. Why bother hiding it from me?’ She laughed inwardly at the thought.
Immersed in her thoughts, Abigail didn’t notice that Sawyer had already returned.
He observed her profile from behind. She stood by the window with her back to him, wearing his pajamas. That view stirred something inside him.
The impatient part of his mind began to surface, tempting him to bring her straight to the courthouse to register their marriage, live together, and have the privilege of seeing her every day—waking up in his bedroom like this.
But again, his promise to let her heal from her past relationship stopped him. He couldn’t rush her. He would wait. Patiently.
After taking another deep breath to calm his rushing and racing heart and mind, Sawyer silently walked over and stopped behind her, wrapping his arms around her and startling her.
He was so happy that she didn’t remove his hands; instead, she smiled at him.
Sawyer hugged her tight but gently from behind. Then, he asked, "Do you mind sharing what you thought about that made you not notice me? And why do you seem so happy giggling to yourself?"
He leaned his head on her shoulder and kissed her cheek before burying his head in her neck, taking in her warm and wonderful scent.
"Who else? Of course, you." Abigail laughed lightly as she felt his breath tickle her neck.
"Me?" Sawyer straightened as he released her and stood beside her to look at her face more clearly. He was curious and wanted to hear what she thought of him.
"Yeah, you..." She took her clean clothes from his hand before continuing, "I find it amusing to imagine you pretending to drive away from your own house, Sawyer..."
Instantly, Sawyer laughed. He shook his head, looking at the scenery outside. "Even now, I still laugh when I think about it."
