Chapter 56: Proposing an Educational Program
In the silent palace where not a single voice was heard, the atmosphere, though utterly quiet, was not heavy. On the contrary, in the eyes of the emperor and the ministers, there was a sense of expectation.
Jun Wu Xiao did not let them wait long and spoke up:
"If I am not mistaken, there are many tasks that require strong people, aren’t there?"
As everyone listened, their minds began to whirl, and the emperor, as if struck by a thought, he said:
"What you mean is that we should not disband the army but rather assign them to different tasks. Tasks that require physical strength."
Jun Wu Xiao nodded in satisfaction at this thought, and he elaborated:
"Exactly, that’s what I meant to say. The army is both strong and disciplined. To be honest, they could be considered the finest workforce. Furthermore, who says the army can only fight? On the battlefield, they need food to survive. Thus, training them to become excellent farmers is not an issue at all.
Even if it is said that soldiers are meant to fight, one simply needs to tell them: How can you fight without food? With that understanding, they will also realize the importance of this work and learn farming.
Moreover, besides farming, there are many jobs that require a group of physically strong and disciplined individuals. And of course, the discipline of the military is beyond reproach, one might say it is outstanding.
Furthermore, we will not make them labor for nothing. If their labor yields results, naturally, they will be rewarded. This way, we can also motivate them to strive harder in their work."
The other ministers, upon hearing this, their eyes lit up. They too required such high-quality labor groups.
The emperor immediately felt that this solution did not merely address the military issue but also solved the broader problem of national development. Even though his body condition was very bad, he still laughed:
"Ha ha, good, very good. With this, the problem is resolved, and humanity can progress. Excellent, truly excellent."
The ministers, seeing this, quickly advised:
"Your Majesty, please don’t get too excited. It might affect your health."
The Emperor just snorted:
"Hmph, a little laughter won’t kill me. Moreover, now that this issue is resolved, let us discuss the future development of humanity. I wonder if you have any thoughts on this matter?"
All eyes, along with those of the ministers and everyone present, turned to Jun Wu Xiao.
At first he only thought of coming here mainly to observe and not do much but it seems like today he came here to work.
He also sensed the anticipation of everyone present, and he thought:
"Unexpectedly, what was meant to be a mere visit has turned me into the center of attention. Well, helping others is joyful, so I shall assist them wholeheartedly."
"To accelerate human development, first and foremost, humanity must understand the nature of its own essence." Jun Wu Xiao said.
Except for his six friends, the emperor and the other ministers were all marked by question marks over their heads. One minister, unable to contain his curiosity, asked:
"What exactly do you mean? Humans don’t understand what humanity is and they need an explanation on this matter? That doesn’t sound very reasonable."
This question also the sentiments of those present. Despite racking their brains, they could not grasp Jun Wu Xiao’s meaning.
Jun Wu Xiao continued:
"Hold on, let me explain. I want humanity to recognize their own greatness. Every human is truly great."
"I know that there are some humans who are great and celebrated by the world. But why say that every human is great?" the emperor asked, puzzled by the notion.
"Do not hurry, listen to my explanation. Humans are aware that they will die someday, yet they choose to strive in life. The achievements of their lifetimes will eventually be passed on to future generations. In other words, each human spends their entire life striving for the civilization of mankind.
Humanity is truly great, and the only thing preventing humans from realizing this is their own greed and selfishness in negative aspects. These traits were formed and passed down through many generations because in nature, survival is exceedingly difficult. In the natural world, where animals survive, everything relies on life-or-death competition for existence.
But is that still true for humanity now? The ages of war and rampant theft have passed. Now is an era of peace, where people can safely develop. Think about it: are those magnificent architectural structures natural? Are those seemingly endless fields natural? Is even the canal in the capital city natural?
No! Absolutely not. These are the achievements of human civilization. Humanity is inherently a species that turns the unthinkable into the possible, surpassing the bounds of ordinary instincts to rise to the highest position among the earth’s creatures.
Humanity also possesses inheritance. The achievements of those born in this era are not solely theirs but also encompass a vast expanse of knowledge passed down from countless generations before.
Humanity receives the wisdom of their predecessors and strives to develop it further while also generating new knowledge. Over time, this knowledge becomes more abundant and refined, thus enhancing human civilization.
Furthermore, to be more precise, the people of the previous generation gave away their knowledge for free. People pay money to buy books, to pay teachers. But the previous generation died a long time ago, so how can they get the money? But it’s not that they don’t receive anything, they receive comfort in their hearts, which is extremely valuable to each individual.
Humanity’s development to this day is due to the inherent greatness of our species. Humans must not allow ordinary natural survival instincts to dominate but should discard them to become truly human. Only then can human civilization develop as rapidly as possible."
Even the emperor and the ministers were greatly surprised. One minister, unable to contain himself, said:
"It seems that although we are high leaders of humanity, we truly do not understand humanity, nor ourselves."
The others nodded in agreement.
"What should we do then?" the emperor asked.
"Establish a mandatory education program. Introduce a new subject called ’The Essence of Humanity.’ Teach the young what it means to be human so that they can grow up to be themselves, not bound by natural instincts. Furthermore, children are the future generation. It is harder to change the old, but children are much more adaptable.
But we should not overlook the older generations. No matter the generation, humans are humans. And as humans, they deserve to understand the essence of humanity and what it truly means to be themselves.
According to the documents I have seen, the rapid development of humanity in recent years is due to a shift in their thinking. In the past, they thought about how to survive, but now they think about how to create better things." Jun Wu Xiao said.
