Beginning of Cultivation -
Chapter 156: The End of Conflict
Chapter 156: The End of Conflict
Tang Hao and Gu Zhou Jian continued their conversation, ignoring the poor god who was currently in a state of undress.
At this moment, although Tang Hao had completely given up, he still asked:
"You must really hate me, don’t you?"
Gu Zhou Jian merely smiled and shook his head:
"No, I am very grateful to you and even quite fond of you. However, what you want from me is something I cannot give you. From the very beginning, I was never like an ordinary person. The path I walk has more in common with theirs. Maybe it’s just a coincidence or maybe it’s because I’m crazy. I’m not entirely sure, but I truly can’t give you what you want. The path you’ve chosen is the life of a mortal, while mine is the path of cultivation. We will only grow farther apart, not closer."
Tang Hao smiled at that. Despite feeling uncomfortable inside, he knew that a short pain was better than a prolonged one. Over ten years for a love was enough, he said:
"I understand that too, but I kept clinging to an unrealistic hope in my heart. I believed in it, believed in that faint, nearly invisible hope for over ten years. Now that you’ve embarked on the path of cultivation, I shouldn’t be here to hinder you anymore. If I die later and the Tang family faces difficulties, please help my descendants a little."
Seeing Tang Hao worry like an old man about the future hundreds of years from now, Gu Zhou Jian found it quite amusing. She said:
"Ha ha ha, you’re worrying too far ahead. Don’t worry, we will manage the survival of humanity. But if your descendants are too stupid to manage the family, don’t blame us. As for you, when you die, I will attend your funeral."
Tang Hao’s face darkened a bit at this, and he grumbled:
"Hmph, I am still quite healthy. At least a hundred more years won’t be a problem."
At this moment, Tang Hao’s tone was much more relaxed. Sometimes, letting go is the way to live a more comfortable life. His hostility towards Jun Wu Xiao had also significantly reduced. However, this was also thanks to Jun Wu Xiao’s strength. If it were someone else, they would have likely been blown to pieces by now.
Suddenly, Gu Zhou Jian felt she had forgotten something very important. After thinking for a while, she remembered and said:
"Hey, do you have any clothes? The Guardian God wandering around naked really ruins the image."
Tang Hao laughed at that:
"Ha ha ha, yes, I do. But looking at him like that, who would ever associate him with the great Guardian God of humanity? So, no need to worry about the image of the Guardian God getting tarnished. You seemed surprised earlier, you’ve been living with him for two years and haven’t seen this before?"
Gu Zhou Jian shook her head and recounted their time together:
"Honestly, we only spent a few days together. The rest of the time, we were both in secluded cultivation. We didn’t see each other, and even when we did, I didn’t disturb his cultivation and left soon after."
Hearing about this strange relationship which defied his understanding, Tang Hao sighed:
"I really can’t understand you people. Rather than saying you are lovers, I feel like you’re more like strangers. How can you only meet for a few days in two years and not even communicate? The life of cultivators like you is truly dry."
Gu Zhou Jian nodded and replied:
"Because our life is so dry and joyless, only a few crazies can endure it. Not to mention, the further we go, the more responsibilities we have to bear. In any case, ordinary people who want a good life should not choose the path of cultivation."
Tang Hao nodded. He had no interest in cultivation. His plan was to live up to fifty, lead the family for a few decades, and then retire to enjoy life with his wife, children, and grandchildren or find some hobbies like his grandfather to enjoy old age.
At this point, the two of them took the clothes and went to where Jun Wu Xiao was. Though they weren’t a perfect fit, they were at least wearable.
They hadn’t been outside for long when Jun Wu Xiao noticed and approached them. He laughed and said:
"Ha ha ha, that thing just now was fantastic. With it, the monsters will be blown to pieces."
He didn’t seem to care at all that he wasn’t wearing any clothes, probably because the earlier shock left his body a bit numb and he didn’t notice.
Tang Hao turned his head away and handed the clothes to Gu Zhou Jian. He said:
"Get him dressed quickly, it’s an eyesore."
Gu Zhou Jian took the clothes and tossed them to Jun Wu Xiao, saying:
"Quick, put them on. He gives up."
In less than a second, Jun Wu Xiao had changed into the new clothes, which, although slightly ill-fitting, would do for now. He laughed and said:
"Ha ha, the bomb just now had tremendous power. If humanity had this before, they could have quickly wiped out the monsters."
Having heard a bit about the monsters, Gu Zhou Jian asked:
"I heard the monsters fall from the sky, so can we shoot missiles at them before they land?"
Tang Hao nodded and said:
"That’s right. Now humanity doesn’t need to fear those monsters anymore."
But Jun Wu Xiao shook his head and said:
"You weren’t there at the time, so it’s normal not to understand. When the monsters fell to Earth, they were encased in an excessively hard protective shell. Even if you used what we just saw and hit them directly, you couldn’t destroy them. Doing so would just waste weapons because the monsters have very high regenerative abilities."
Hearing this, the expressions of both Tang Hao and Gu Zhou Jian became more serious. They realized they had underestimated the monsters. Tang Hao asked:
"But if they fall, many people will die."
Jun Wu Xiao laughed:
"Ha ha, you were just trying to kill me earlier. Why so compassionate now?"
W ithout any hesitation, Tang Hao snorted:
"Hmph, because I don’t like you."
