Chapter 496: 0496 God Can’t Stand It Anymore_1

"Is it because you can’t drink alcohol?"

Ruffy Smith chuckled softly upon hearing this, "Even now, I can remember when you were drunk, Ellen, that was when you were the cutest."

When drinking to the point of drunkenness was brought up, Ellen Young didn’t show annoyance but looked rather serious, "Yes, when I am drunk, I lose relevant memories, which is quite frightening, so I can’t touch alcohol anymore."

For a researcher, blacking out is definitely terrifying.

It’s usually not too bad, but it could be fatal if any related data were forgotten.

Moreover, with her exceptional memory, she couldn’t be sure whether drinking would harm her.

Having an extraordinary memory has its drawbacks, but it’s also her edge, and she had grown accustomed to it.

"Sit down."

Ruffy Smith waved her over. Ellen was deep in thought, pondering over an issue with Michael’s experiment, and shook her head when she heard him, "Wait for me a moment, I need to recalculate some data."

Ruffy Smith: "..."

He could only watch as Ellen went into the room in front of him, took out a bunch of things, from a laptop to various measuring instruments. Though not up to par with those in the laboratory, they were obviously enough for her use.

She started working, and Ruffy Smith sat on the sofa, watching her calmly busy herself and couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

Ellen Young asked, "What are you laughing at?"

Even while busy, she could multitask without neglecting her conversation with Ruffy Smith or being disturbed by it.

Ruffy Smith replied, "Nothing, just that you are also cute like this."

Ellen Young: "...Yeah."

Ruffy Smith lay back, propped his hands behind his head, and kept gazing at Ellen Young. Suddenly, he said, "Do you remember the portrait of my mother you saw at my place today?"

Ellen Young: "Yeah, I remember."

She remembered it vividly, even now, she could recall the teardrop mole at the corner of the woman’s eye.

Glimmering and glorious, truly a peerless beauty.

"Perhaps you know, when I was very young, to be exact, when I was one year and a month old, she passed away in a plane crash on her way to France. I was at my grandmother’s house then, and she went alone to celebrate my father’s birthday as a surprise for him," he said.

The way he recounted this made it hard to detect much emotion; it was as if he was reminiscing about the past with a touch of wistful resignation.

The intended surprise never materialized, instead it turned into devastating news.

"I didn’t know any of this. It was after I grew up that my father told me. He said he didn’t want to hide anything from me. I know it has nothing to do with him; nobody could foresee such events. Even now, every year on my mom’s birthday, he spends it alone at the cemetery."

Ellen Young paused for a moment, a sign she was listening to Ruffy Smith’s words.

"Maybe because I’ve never met my mom, when I think of these stories, they just feel like they belong to someone else. Both my grandparents also couldn’t bear this shock; soon after my mom passed away, they followed due to poor health."

"Many things about my mom, I’ve heard from others. They said she was a very proud woman, never willing to suffer losses, and never did. My dad always protected her well."

A perfect match, too blessed with happiness, perhaps, that the heavens couldn’t stand to watch.

So, it took the life of Ruffy Smith’s mother.
