Chapter 473: 0473 Theodore Hailey_1
The so-called genius student was named Theodore Hailey.
He was a well-known figure in the computer science department at Andalu University, a distinguished young student who had already authored several award-winning papers despite his young age; not quite world-class, but still enviable.
Yesterday, during a professional speaking competition on campus, Theodore Hailey delivered a lecture using his knowledge of the field. He presented several innovative topics about AI, which received unanimous praise. Even his tutor said he had not expected Theodore to have such a depth of research on AI.
AI is a new discipline that has emerged in the recent years, and Theodore had taken it as a minor subject in his spare time. Unexpectedly, he was quite good at it.
After the lecture, Theodore’s tutor praised his presentation, "Theodore, the paper you presented today satisfied several tutors. We did not anticipate such insights on AI from you. If you have time to add more of your thoughts and compile it into a thesis, it might well be another award-winning work."
Theodore was quite good-looking, of the kind that made him both attractive and a top student on campus.
Andalu University was not short of top students; it could be said that everyone was a top student, but there were distinctions nonetheless.
Theodore belonged to a rather high tier among them.
Hearing this, his eyes briefly twinkled but he did not seem to notice the unnatural slight curl of his lips as he smiled, only saying, "I will organize it well when I get back, and then I might need your guidance and revisions, Professor."
"Of course, that’s no problem. However, the two AI topics you addressed also involved some esoteric mathematical formulas. I never anticipated that. How did you come up with them?"
Theodore’s smile stiffened for a moment.
How had he come up with them?
Of course, he had seen two forum accounts discussing the matter while browsing the forums randomly. Being related to the field, he felt these two people were not just talking nonsense even though others might think so. After reading the entire discussion, it was clear that both accounts possessed a certain level of expertise.
The viewpoints they raised about AI were quite tricky and rare.
After he saw them, he remembered them, and when he was short of inspiration for his lecture paper yesterday, he took them on a whim.
He, of course, knew this was an act of dishonesty, so he had dispersed the ideas somewhat, but the core essence was still borrowed from someone else’s views, identical in every aspect.
Now, hearing what his tutor had to say, he truly did not expect such interest in the viewpoint. The issue of publishing a paper or not was not the main concern; the real issue would be if someone caught on...
That’s what Theodore Hailey thought, but what he said was different, "It was a random burst of inspiration. Surely, it still needs data verification."
"Your theory actually holds water," the tutor nodded. "You really should develop the complete theory further; it might cause a sensation. I haven’t seen a fresh perspective like yours on AI, neither domestically nor abroad."
Theodore’s eyelids twitched suddenly, "Professor, is my theory that astonishing?"
"It’s not about being astonishing," the tutor pondered for a bit. "It’s more about being surprising and, based on your initial ideas, there should be sufficient space for data experiments. But, since I’m not specialized in this field, we’ll need to consider what Mr. Hubert and the others think. Judging by their reactions today, they were all quite amazed by your performance."
