Chapter 324: March 24 Grandpa’s Relative_1

Ellen laughed softly and took out a candy for Irvin Jones.

It was one she usually ate, but it was fine for a child to have one too; it was just perfect as he wouldn’t fuss for food at night now.

Irvin Jones grinned foolishly, and Ellen patted his cheek.

Ruffy Smith noticed that Ellen seemed to really like children, and his eyes deepened.

They didn’t rush outside but instead sat in Aunt Walker’s courtyard. The courtyard was now clean and tidy, and not far away, one could see the village chief’s office. Aunt Walker had gone to inquire about something for them.

The noise was because everyone in the village had come out to talk. Now that they saw Ellen had arrived, it didn’t feel right to continue.

The focus of their discussion had now shifted to her.

"Hey, that young man with her, you can’t deny he’s really good-looking. Is he Ellen’s boyfriend?"

"Don’t talk nonsense; haven’t heard that he is."

"He’s been around the village recently. I heard he’s here for some development project. The village chief said if our village is to develop, it’s all thanks to Ellen’s good fortune."

"Oh my, that’s wonderful. Who would’ve thought the orphan girl picked up by Hordy Young would turn out to be so smart? Truly blessed."

...

Damien Frost also went to gather information. The situation was so sudden that even they didn’t know about it, so naturally, they had to check the news.

It wasn’t long before the village chief came out to call for Ellen.

Ellen, of course, went over, with Ruffy Smith following behind her.

At the village chief’s office, Ruffy Smith didn’t go inside, and when Ellen entered, the first thing she saw was the people inside.

A man and a woman, and there was also a little girl sitting there, roughly seven or eight years old. Unexpectedly, this girl had features that were more distinct than other girls’, making her look rather fierce. Her eyes, though, were bright. The clothes she wore were not particularly nice, and one could see they had been washed until very old.

She had a stubborn expression on her face.

But she looked like she was about to cry, eyes just fixedly staring elsewhere, not looking at anyone.

The couple who had brought her were dressed like ordinary folk, with traces of worry in their eyes and brows. Upon seeing Ellen, they showed a bit of surprise but no other emotion.

Clearly, they did not know who Ellen was.

This basically let out some information; the people in front of her might indeed be relatives from Grandpa Young’s family.

Grandpa Young had simply never spoken of relatives, but that didn’t prove there were none, only that nobody knew what had happened to make them lose contact with the family for decades.

But looking at the appearance of the people in front of her, she didn’t see any resemblance between this couple and Grandpa Young.

"This is Ellen, Hordy Young’s granddaughter—not by blood, as she was picked up by Hordy Young, but no different from his own," the village chief said, his expression showing some difficulty. "I understand what you’re saying, but whether or not to take in this child isn’t up to us. Hordy Young only had this granddaughter, and she’s not even married yet. It wouldn’t be right to burden her with a little girl."

The wife in the couple spoke up, her complexion slightly displeased: "You are Hordy Young’s granddaughter?"

Then she turned to the village chief and said, "Well, it’s not our problem whether to take her in or not. Logically, this child is also a descendant of his family. Now that he’s gone, his granddaughter will just have an additional sister, right?"

Ellen: "..."

What on earth is all this?

Ellen looked at Grandpa Young, the village chief, and asked in a soft voice, "Grandpa, what’s going on here?"

Apparently hearing Ellen’s voice, the little girl turned her head to look at Ellen.

When she saw Ellen, she seemed to freeze for a moment.

Then the village chief began to recount an event.
