Chapter 197: 0197 David Wood’s phone_1

Seeing this message, it would definitely be a lie to say it wasn’t painful.

Although Ellen had long known Olivia Johnson could be heartless, when she actually sent that message, it was as if she had confirmed something.

On seeing it, Lucy Wood’s expression instantly turned desolate.

All these years she had spent in the Wood Family, going to great lengths to be good to them, for what purpose?

Wasn’t it in hopes that the Wood Family would give her a little more attention?

Now she realized that everything she did was in vain.

In their eyes, they would never truly see her.

Simply because she was a daughter.

The changes in Lucy’s expression did not escape Ellen’s notice. She only glanced at Lucy, probably guessed something, but she wouldn’t ask.

Lucy knew she was now in the car, and in front of Ellen.

She blinked her eyes, pushing back the sourness that threatened to rise.

She looked at the message once more and ultimately deleted it.

Whatever.

Since she had already decided to immigrate and would henceforth have nothing to do with the Wood Family, she might as well act as if she had no such family as the Woods.

After all these years, she didn’t owe the Wood Family anything anymore.

The Wood Family wasn’t exactly harsh on her, but neither were they generous. What should be there was there; anything extra, don’t even think about it.

In the few years she worked, she had contributed most of her earnings to the family.

At least Edward Wood and the others had their own real estate and investment shares, all bought for them by Olivia Johnson.

However, her own house was bought with the money she earned; such an obvious difference in treatment meant Lucy felt she no longer owed the Wood Family anything.

The car arrived at Lucy’s house.

When she got out, Lucy had resumed her usual bright and cheerful demeanor, and smiling at Ellen, she said, "Stay at my place tonight. My house doesn’t have much, but there are a few rooms."

Ellen nodded her head and did not say anything.

Felicia Frost knew Lucy had returned and immediately came over from her own house.

Seeing Ellen there didn’t surprise her; she simply told Lucy, "We need to officially join the crew tomorrow. I’ve already booked your flight, it’s at eight o’clock in the morning."

Lucy did not mention the situation with Olivia Johnson. She arranged a room for Ellen and then discussed work with Felicia.

Ellen, meanwhile, received an unexpected phone call.

It was from David Wood.

David Wood was Ellen’s biological grandfather, but for Ellen, this relationship might as well have not existed.

David Wood was now an entrepreneur. Unlike Olivia Johnson’s superficial image and style of doing things, if Olivia and her group could do such things, it wasn’t hard to discern what kind of person David Wood was. His call today, in fact, was not surprising.

Since Ruffy Smith had dealt with his grandson, it was only natural that he knew the relationship between Ruffy and Ellen was not simple.

He couldn’t imagine how his estranged granddaughter could know someone like Ruffy Smith.

The Smiths were an absolute powerhouse in Imperial City; the Woods couldn’t even touch the hem of their garment. Otherwise, why would he have his grandson, Edward, beaten half to death and sent out of the country overnight after Edward offended Ruffy? His actions were to save his grandson.

David Wood naturally dared not speculate on the relationship between Ellen and Ruffy Smith.

Moreover, how could Ruffy be in a remote and backward place like Haran Village? All of this was beyond David Wood’s imagination.

As much as he thought about it, something seemed amiss, so he decided to make this call to Ellen.
