Chapter 1015: Chapter 907: The Protagonist in Place_2

Additionally, the Wagner Company had already started its successive entries into Kiev a few days ago, both overtly and covertly, all with elite teams!

"Misha is also going there, so naturally, we couldn’t take security lightly," he said.

As her identity was "unlocked," under Wang Ye’s direction, some of the affairs of the Wagner Company also began to be forwarded and reported to Natalia.

Of course, another reason was that Natalia was about to go to Kiev soon, and she needed to understand some information in advance.

After understanding the situation, Natalia realized just how powerful the usually unremarkable Wagner Company was!

All she could say was that many things were beyond her imagination...

If there could still be security issues under the protection of the Wagner Company, it basically meant that the enemy was invincible...

However, she believed that such enemies would not appear, at least not in Kiev.

Otherwise, Wang Ye wouldn’t have possibly transferred her there, and even Wang Ye himself planned to head there for a while.

From Natalia’s understanding of Wang Ye, it was basically impossible for him to put himself in danger.

Since he dared to go, it meant that everything was properly arranged!

"Well then, I wish you... a smooth journey!"

Angelina raised her wine glass, smiling as she offered her blessing.

The glasses clinked with a "ting" sound, the two exchanged smiles and downed their drinks...

......

Natalia’s relocation to Kiev did not attract much attention.

After all, she was only going there to serve as the Deputy Attorney General, which wasn’t a very high position, not at all conspicuous.

In Yushchenko’s eyes, this just proved how corrupt the current government in Kiev was!

A young girl with no experience, oh, to be precise, no experience serving "within" Ukraine, was directly appointed to such a position as Deputy Attorney General.

Perhaps it was just a word or a whim from some big shot.

Because other than this reason, there really was no other explanation...

Even Yanukovych and Yulia didn’t pay much attention to Natalia’s arrival.

According to information they gathered indirectly, this girl was relatively close to Mr. Mikhail, but not very intimate...

Perhaps it was just Mr. Mikhail’s impulsive decision, after all, it was only a not-so-important position that wouldn’t affect the big picture.

However, Yanukovych and Yulia did their social duties quite adequately.

As soon as Natalia arrived in Kiev, the two warmly welcomed her together and held a rather grand reception banquet, and also introduced her to some high-level people in the Kiev political arena.

They played the role of "hosts" to the fullest!

In the future, even if Natalia mentioned this to Mikhail, she could find no faults with their actions.

Yulia went a step further.

Not only did she act appropriately on the surface, but behind the scenes, she grew close to Natalia and became so-called "besties."

After all, both of them were women, having this gender advantage, which was something Yanukovych could not envy.

Of course, he didn’t care about these trivial matters because he and Yulia weren’t the same.

After all, in the next government, it was he who would be the President, the real protagonist!

While Yulia was merely in the assembly, a supporting role.

Even if Mikhail was tremendously powerful in Moscow and had helped him a great deal.

But he and Mikhail were equals, considered "partners!"

So, he just needed to maintain a good relationship with Mikhail, and he didn’t need to pay much attention to others, as long as the surface level obligations were fulfilled.

Besides, the general election was about to start, and whether it was Yushchenko or Yanukovych, they had more important things to handle.

......

On February 1, 2005, the Ukrainian General Election officially began.

By now, only two candidates had made it into the final round, namely Yanukovych and Yushchenko.

Voters across the nation would have to choose between the two of them.

Both Yanukovych and Yushchenko were distinct individuals with very clear governing philosophies.

One advocated for maintaining tradition, fostering good relations with Slavic brother nations in Eastern Europe, and progressing together in development.

The other believed that it was time to stop focusing on the impoverished region of Eastern Europe and instead look towards "The West," moving closer to those more advanced, civilized, and developed nations!

This represented two completely different directions and also a major division among the Ukrainian populace.

Actually, the situation was quite similar to that in Russia; people were struggling, so they started thinking in different directions—some wanted to return to their former glory, while others wanted to embrace the West.

It can’t be said who was right or wrong, only that everyone had the right to pursue a better life!

Overall, the majority still supported Yanukovych.

After all, it had been just over a decade since Ukraine and Russia had split, and many still felt like they were "brothers". At that time, relations between the two were still friendly, both officially and among the people.

Speaking of which, it’s necessary to mention why relations later took a sharp turn for the worse, transitioning from brotherhood to enmity.

Strictly speaking, it was this General Election that became the turning point!

Once Yushchenko took office, due to his extreme pro-Western stance, he felt it necessary to completely suppress Yanukovych and his faction to prevent their return, ideally ensuring they would never recover.

How did he do it?

Quite simply, he began to influence media narratives, daily exposing the public to information about how great Europe and the United States were to Ukraine, and how Russia was betraying them.

He also exaggerated the history, distorting the mutual "brotherhood" into a narrative of unilateral exploitation!

Then, in reality, he began to oust "Russian" influences by removing Russian as an official language, promoting the so-called Ukrainian language, and suppressing the development of Russian nationals in Ukrainian political and business circles, among other actions...

It can only be said that most of the populace was easily deceived; with Yushchenko’s series of combined punches, he indeed achieved the expected results.

The relations between the two nations began to deteriorate rapidly, eventually leading them down a path of no return...

In dealing with these international relations, one must gauge the situation and adapt accordingly, not judging new issues with old perspectives.

Just like how some say Ukraine had good relations with a major power and even provided substantial technological support, even selling some "national treasures" to this major power, thus Ukraine is a true friend and staunch brother to this big nation!

This statement is both correct and incorrect.

It’s correct because, at certain stages, Ukraine did have good relations with this major power, with both sides helping each other and taking what they needed.

One side had technology and equipment but no money!

The other had some money, but no technology or equipment.

This was a perfect match.

So, it’s not quite right to say that Ukraine took advantage of this major power; it was just business, and at that time, Ukraine wasn’t just selling to one country.

They were welcoming clients from all over the world — the highest bidder won!

The incorrect part is that, after Ukraine completely leaned towards The West, its relationship with this particular country soured, and it committed many distasteful acts.

Thus, it is hard to say whether such a nation is friendly or hostile; one can only say that in some stages there was a mutually beneficial cooperation, and at other stages, their positions diverged...

......

It was because of understanding that many things started to change from this election, and they changed in the direction Wang Ye did not want to see.

Now that Wang Ye had the ability to influence the development of the situation, he naturally would not stand idly by.

At the end of this month, just before the start of the General Election, Wang Ye had already quietly arrived in Kiev.

To cover up his movements this time, the Duma and the Kremlin had made some accommodations.

Both announced that Deputy Speaker Mikhail needed to rest because of illness, while in reality, Wang Ye had first gone to Crimea, and then from there, he transferred to Kiev.

With the real "protagonist" in place, a great play also officially commenced...
