Chapter 49: The True Form...

⋅•⋅⊰∙∘❦✾❦∘∙⊱⋅•-

The monster let out a guttural roar, its body glitching and writhing like it was barely holding itself together anymore.

It dropped to all fours, smoke rolling off its back, before launching itself forward with a screech.

Alyhana’s shield snapped completely.

"Get down!" she cried, already raising her hands for another spell.

But Xander was already moving he pushed off the ground, body aching, ribs still screaming from earlier but he didn’t care.

The mark on his wrist pulsed, his vision tunneled, and before he could second-guess it, he moved...the monster’s claws came down right where he was standing—except he wasn’t there anymore.

A gust of wind followed a blue blur of motion as Xander reappeared behind the creature, crouched low, sword drawn.

The monster skidded to a stop, head whipping around in wild confusion and sniffed the air.

Then it roared once again once it realized it’s target was gone.

"Where the hell—?!" Iris spun, wide-eyed. "Did he just—?"

Alyhana stared at the space where Xander had been, lips parted in complete shock. "...Did he just disappear?"

"So...um, he can teleport now." Iris muttered, backing up with her daggers drawn.

Xander straightened slowly, eyes narrowing as the monster turned to face him again, he tightened his grip on the hilt, magic still crackling faintly through his veins.

"...Round two," he muttered under his breath. "Let’s try again shall we?"

The monster twisted to face Xander, its mouth stretching too wide, shadows pouring off its limbs like smoke.

But it didn’t get the chance to strike again.

A sharp crack rang through the air as a sudden blast of light hit it square in the back, slamming it straight into the wall. Alyhana’s arms were shakiyas she held the force field steady.

"I’ve got it!" she shouted, knees wobbling slightly. "Just for a few seconds—hurry!"

"On it!" Iris shouted, already sprinting.

She slid across the floor, flipped forward, and threw a glowing pink dagger straight into the monster’s left arm. Then another into its right.

It screeched and bucked against the light, but couldn’t move.

"Stay still you overgrown shadow freak!" Iris yelled, creating and sending dagger after dagger straight at the monster.

Another dagger flew, this time straight into its shoulder. The last one stabbed through its jaw, pinning the head against the wall. The monster screamed again, this time in rage.

Dark smoke poured from the wounds where her daggers struck, sizzling against Alyhana’s force field.

Iris backed off, breathing hard. "Okay. This thing is not happy."

"I’m not either!" Alyhana cried, hands shaking visibly now. "This shield won’t hold, it’s too strong—!"

The monster thrashed violently, cracking the wall behind it, and one of Iris’s daggers flickered like it was starting to melt.

"Hurry, Xander!" Iris yelled.

Xander stood just a few steps away from the monster, hands clenched, sword lowered in uncertainty...

"This is insane," he muttered under his breath. "I don’t even know what the hell I’m doing."

’Could this actually work?!’ he thought as he stepped closer, the monster let out another piercing screech, its form glitching harder, cracks of darkness flickering like static across its limbs.

"Fuck!" Iris shouted, not looking away from the thing pinned to the wall. "It’s breaking loose!"

The monster threw its head forward, snapping one of the daggers clean out of its shoulder. The force field cracked down the middle with a loud snap, like glass under pressure.

Alyhana cried out softly as the shield flickered again. "Xander!"

"I know!" he snapped, stepping forward. "I’m going!"

"This better work..." he muttered under his breath.

The monster snapped toward him, jaws wide open and shrieking as it struggled against it’s bonds but it was still pinned, just barely.

Xander reached out and slammed his hand against its head.

The reaction was immediate as the mark on his wrist glowed a bright blue light like a shockwave. It crawled up his arm in jagged lines, like lightning under his skin.

The monster SCREAMED—a broken, hollow wail that made the entire room tremble. A wind picked up, spinning around them out of nowhere.

"Okay, what the actual hell—" Iris shouted, backing away as her daggers disappeared into smalls puffs on pink smoke.

Alyhana gasped, her arms flying up to shield her face from the sudden gust.

ander clenched his jaw, eyes still squeezed shut. His body tensed and his knees threatening to buckle under the force, he stood his ground—until suddenly, everything went silent.

The wind stopped blowing and Xander opened his eyes. His natural black irises were nowhere to he seen, there were also no pupils, just a glowing pure white light staring straight ahead.

Alyhana’s breath caught in her throat, "...Xander?"

But Xander didn’t respond...

When the light finally faded, Xander realized he wasn’t standing in the manor anymore.

The ground beneath him was soft, blanketed in a sea of glowing, violet-blue flowers that stretched out far in every direction like an endless ocean. The sky above was blue with no clouds, no sun, no wind, just an unnerving quietness that pressed into his ears like cotton.

He turned slowly, taking it all in with narrowed eyes, and let out a low breath as he crouched down to brush his fingers against one of the flowers.

"Okay..." he muttered to himself, rising again. "Is this like a dream or...?"

It wasn’t just strange...it was unfamiliar in a way that didn’t feel entirely magical, just... wrong. These weren’t flowers he’d seen in this world, or in any of the places they’d passed through.

He took a slow step forward, then another, carefully making his way through the flower petals. And then, breaking through the quiet, was the softest sound good of a girl crying.

He turned toward it without thinking, instincts kicking in before reason had time to catch up. The crying grew louder the deeper he went, and soon he reached a small clearing in the middle of it all like a perfect circle where the flowers didn’t grow.

And that’s when he saw her.

She sat alone at the center of the clearing, her knees pulled tight to her chest and her face buried in her arms, her whole body trembling as she cried like she hadn’t stopped in a long, long time. Her dark hair was tangled and hanging messily over her shoulders, and though he couldn’t see her face clearly.

He didn’t say anything when he saw her, but she noticed him anyway.

She lifted her head slowly, her eyes red-rimmed and glossy with tears, cheeks stained with dirt and the kind of heartbreak that made the air feel heavier. Her mouth was set in a tight, bitter line as she looked up at him...no longer crying, but she looked mad as hell.

"So now you show up," she said quietly, but her words cut like a knife. "After everything... this is when you decide to make your grand return, Kaelhi?"

I feel like I need to apologize for the long ghost manor arc, I swear it’s coming to an end as I myself hate writing long arcs ಠ‿ಠ...but I feel like this is important for the characters to face their underlying fears and unlock their powers.

Iris can shape her aura (I call it Aura Shifting) into weapons.

And Xander is on his way to become OP as he has super strength, super speed and also unlocked his spiritual connection.

Alyhana is getting bolder and more experienced in fighting.

So this long ass arc was for a good cause I promise.
