Chapter 76: Hidden Watchers

The Aquaterra Guardians are impressed with how different that female is. She’s a Goddess, but she acts so simple and also has a different past from what they imagined. They imagined she was a pampered Goddess all of her life.

Beau never exposed his feelings to anyone, and also never told about himself to anyone. Not having many friends besides the army companionship. So, he really doesn’t know what to say to Astri.

His energy and face told Astri many things already, she only smiled and nodded.

"It’s all right." She pats his shoulder.

She looks at Shan and he excitedly tells her about himself, what he likes to do, and what he doesn’t. "I love training and getting stronger, but I also love to find a nice hole to sleep. I also run away from Beau to avoid taking too much work, but I try to help as much as I can. I love eating oysters. Could eat all day. Hate tuna. I like to dress well." And he keeps on saying until he has no more ideas of what to say.

Astri chuckles, he has a high rank but it’s still fun.

"I admire you, Shan. You see the bright things even in a hard life in the army. Keep that way." She says.

Shan blushes and nods with a big smile. She gives the others the opportunity to talk. Ryan is very silent like Beau, but even he talks a bit.

Beau didn’t know many things they said. Hawa likes to eat the head of the fishes, but he hates fighting the others so he only takes the head when he’s alone. Ryan hates night patrols even if he’s good at it. Ferd wants to have his own oyster farm in the future.

"It’s great to know that besides our titles we’re similar in some points, don’t you think?" Astri says.

"Yes." All of them answer besides Beau.

"Astri?" Zin calls for her as he walks to the front of the ship.

They look at Zin, and his poker face is actually pretty obvious for Astri. She giggles and stands up.

"Good night, boys. He’s mad at me. See you tomorrow."

"Good night.." They softly answer.

Normally beastmen don’t greet each other like this, even higher ranks, so they always sound awkward.

Astri shows her hand to Zin with a big smile, a guilty smile.

"How dare you do this to me?" He says to her.

The others are shocked. How dare he talk to her like this?!

But she awkwardly laughs, and they don’t know what to say or react.

"I wasn’t sleepy and you were all sleeping so soundly. I didn’t want to wake you up." She tries to reason things.

"You changed the foot I hold with Lee’s. If he woke up and saw me doing that he would never leave me alone. How dare you? How can you be so silent like that too?"

"I haven’t thought of that... Sorry. I floated so you didn’t hear me."

He coils his tail around her.

"I will tie you to bed now forward."

She whines as he slithers away and the others are impressed. They look at each other still not understanding quite well what they just saw. Males don’t treat females like that, but if she didn’t ask for help then everything must be fine.

The next morning they’re even more impressed with her telling her males what they need to do to build a rainwater filter, and also how to stock the food by type and organizing the boxes with labels written directly on the wood.

Another day was needed to organize everything to be ready to depart. Astri lets the cubs play in the land a lot because it will be a long trip before finding land again. She walks to the beach and watches the ocean shined by the moon.

"Astri?" She hears and looks to her side to see Tyr getting closer.

"Did the cubs leave you alone for a bit?" She jokes, and he chuckles in answer.

"They’re my best friends now."

She chuckles and looks to the ocean again.

"What are you thinking or looking at?" He asks confused.

"There’s someone there. Watching us." She answers.

Tyr tenses right away.

"Don’t worry. I don’t feel that they’re evil beastmen. They’re not coming closer because we have a lot of beastmen here." She says.

"But if they have nothing against us, they shouldn’t fear coming closer. We should tell the others."

"We will. I’m just watching them for some time. Let’s not make things tense unnecessarily. If they wanted to attack they could have come to me already. I’m near them." She explains.

Tyr sighs, he looks in the direction she’s looking but only sees water. Then he looks back and only sees her males burning him with their eyes.

"How are you feeling about the future of The Great Wall City?" She asks him.

"Well... I’m sure it will be hard, but I’ll accomplish my promise to you." He answers.

"Good. I’m sure of that too." She smiles.

"Thank you.. For everything. You made me see after years of being blind."

"Thank you for believing in me. Claud and I’ll keep in touch with you to know how is everything and help you with what we can. We won’t leave you alone."

He smiles watching her beautiful skin shined by the moon.

"Even if you don’t keep in touch, you will always be in my heart." He affirms.

"You’re exposing your thoughts more and more now. Lucky you the others are against the wind."

They laugh together. He gets closer to her and then surprises her putting a collar on her neck. The collar is handmade with leather and there is fur tied together as a pedant.

"I wanted to give you a better one, but I didn’t have time to buy the best materials and make this for you. This is the sign when a lion beastman chooses his female. I won’t ask you if you want to accept this. I will just give it to you because I don’t care if your answer will be yes or no. Even if I become only one more guard for you like Galion and the others, I’ll be. I never wanted to be king just because of the power, I wanted to serve a bigger purpose. And you are this bigger purpose." He says.

She blushes, smiling, and passing her fingers on the necklace. She looks at him and simply nods.

"Thank you. I’ll take care of it." She answers.

He surprises her and everyone around hugging her. Lee is the first one to arrive, he came flying quickly to pull her away from him. He was shocked when he saw the necklace on Astri.

"Astri.." All her spouses are shocked.

"She didn’t accept me, yet. This is my promise to her that even if I don’t become her mate, I’ll be her guardian like the Higher Priest guards. Don’t pressure her, please." Tyr seriously states.

The others gave relieved sighs when they heard that and that Astri confirmed it. She clears her throat to change the subject so things don’t get even tenser.

"Beau?" She calls, and he stands up from near the fire quickly to come to her.

"Yes, my lady." He says.

"Astri." She corrects him and he repeats her name awkwardly. "There are beastmen watching us from the ocean in that direction. They don’t feel like they’re evil. Can you go check them? Don’t go alone."

"Yes. Right away. Hawa! Come with me." Beau acts right away, walking to the water and Hawa runs after him.

Her spouses looked at Astri again.

"Don’t worry. Since all of you were here I thought it was faster telling Beau to do it directly and you all would know at once." She speaks already sensing they would question her.

It was indeed more effective, but they felt a little useless watching her doing things, but they need to get used to it somehow.

After several moments, Beau and Hawa come to shore with three beastmen behind them. They’re slender beastmen, wearing beautiful scale skirts, they have a beautiful light honey skin color,, long curly hair, and light eyes.

The beastman in the center has light brown hair with golden details, his eyes have a light blue color, and has many accessories made of gems and pearls on his neck, ears, and on the belt of his skirt.

"These are old friends of Aquaterra. This is Koa. He’s the leader of the South Merman Tribe. He wasn’t getting closer because there is an army in the woods." Beau explains.

"Why fear us if you’re not a threat?" Tyr asks.

"Would you put yourself at risk in front of an army that you don’t know the reason to be there?" Koa answers.

"It makes sense." Claud says, after reading his mind and confirming he’s not there to attack anyone.

Hearing Claud made the others less tense, knowing he was not a threat. But why he was there watching from a distance either way?
