Chapter 406: Chapter 406 Action Tonight
The phone on the other side remained silent.
Shang Lvxing, sincere and without any reservations, shared everything that happened after they parted ways with Haozi.
"Just like I told you before, if you want to be a rat in the darkness, then I will support you unconditionally. The names we used in the past are nothing but invisible shackles to both of us now. Yi, in my world, you will always come first."
Upon hearing this, Haozi’s heart trembled slightly. His voice choked, "Brother, I’m sorry. I thought you had long forgotten me."
The man who adopted him had an accident and fell into the sea, which left Haozi living a life of constant evasion and hiding.
His adoptive father had transferred all his wealth into digital currency under Haozi’s account, which caught the attention of others with malicious intent, eager to locate him and seize the fortune.
Haozi had to frequently change identities, moving between countries and staying hidden.
Even later, when he had gained the ability to protect himself, he still periodically changed his residence, as he had already grown accustomed to living amid risks.
Although he befriended Fu Junhang and others who shared his interests, the contact address he gave them was never fixed. In fact, even his contact details were changed periodically, leaving most of the communication initiated by him.
Others who wished to contact him could only do so through emails sent via a periodically changing IP address.
After being adopted, although he was no longer financially strapped, he lacked familial warmth.
His adoptive father was a peculiar man. He rarely spoke with Haozi and disliked having any strangers in the house, leaving Haozi alone most of the time.
Over time, Haozi became increasingly reticent, speaking only when necessary and avoiding conversation whenever he could.
Yet, he never forgot that he had an older brother. His adoptive father insisted Haozi master all his skills before he’d reveal his brother’s whereabouts, forcing Haozi to wait patiently in hope.
In the end... after he painstakingly acquired all of his adoptive father’s computer skills and abilities, the man revealed his identity and was consequently hunted.
After avenging his adoptive father, Haozi returned to the country ahead of schedule.
After almost a decade away from home, much of it had changed. He searched far and wide to locate the meeting point he had agreed upon with his brother, but waited there for ages without seeing his brother’s silhouette.
He hired people to track down Shang Lvxing’s whereabouts—a needle in a haystack.
Due to Shang Qing’s special status, many of his procedures were deliberately handled in secrecy by others. His past had been wiped clean specifically to pave the way for a brand-new future. Combined with the passage of time and other factors, Haozi failed to uncover traces of Shang Lvxing.
Thus, Haozi felt somewhat disappointed in his brother.
Now, hearing Shang Lvxing speak so genuinely, revealing even his thoughts about Lu Xining without holding back, gave rise to profound emotions within Haozi.
But what made his heart leap the most was Shang Lvxing’s remark: "I also want to become a family with her."
"Bro, you don’t happen to like Sister Ning, do you?" Haozi caught on, feeling more joy than anything.
He deeply enjoyed being friends and family with Lu Xining, also loved Little Dumpling, Lu Nuonuo. If his brother could be with Sister Ning, then he’d become Nuonuo’s uncle—a real family.
Just imagining it brought a smile to his lips.
Despite being separated for years, Shang Lvxing still understood his biological brother. Starting with heartfelt conversation allowed Haozi’s emotions to shift, his tone growing noticeably brighter.
While the two engaged in heartfelt conversation, elsewhere, Lu Xining had opened the sliding door to her bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling windows, slowly approaching the seabird perched on the rail of her balcony. Its extended leg remained lazily stretched without retreating at her arrival.
"Chirp chirp, chirp chirp chirp..."
Watching it flutter its wings while chirping, Lu Xining leaned slightly, reaching out to poke its round, plump belly. The bird tilted its head and chirped several more times, drawing an unavoidable smile to her lips.
"You adorable and arrogant little thing, you’re just like my daughter."
"Chirp chirp chirp!"
"Alright, fine, chirp chirp, you’re all worked up now. Little Fatty, I’m already out here, show me what you’ve got."
Upon hearing itself called "Little Fatty," the seabird immediately flew up in front of her, flapping its wings to demand an apology, only to see her lounging in the balcony’s rocking chair, lazily observing it.
Seabird: "..." Mama was right—humans are so cunning.
It pretended as though it was about to fly away.
Waiting for Lu Xining’s reaction.
Yet she neither got up to grab it nor reacted, instead closing her eyes, enjoying the sea breeze, leaving the seabird dumbfounded, almost forgetting to flutter its wings.
Half-squinting, Lu Xining observed the seabird’s antics. Some animals truly possessed innate spirituality. Gazing into this bird’s eyes, she unexpectedly saw familiar emotions and was reminded of her daughter, whom she hadn’t seen for days.
Each time her daughter had a little secret to share, it seemed as if she’d blink those big, watery eyes as if to say: Ask me now~
If she waited too long for Lu Xining, Jing Zheng, or Fu Junhang to inquire, she’d then pull off a dramatic act: I’ll leave now ooh—I’m really leaving ooh—ask me already...
Lost in thought, Lu Xining missed her daughter and son deeply, wondering how her three siblings were faring these days.
Chirp chirp chirp—the sound was suddenly close.
Lu Xining opened her eyes to find the seabird perched on the armrest of her rocking chair. This time, it didn’t flaunt its leg but obediently revealed the object hidden beneath its wing.
"Chirp chirp chirp." Take it.
She reached into the cluster of feathers under the seabird’s wing and withdrew a rolled-up letter, written in a familiar handwriting.
The contents were concise and practical.
As she contemplated how to handle the letter, the seabird chirped again, nudging her gently before nibbling away at the letter until only a small piece remained.
Lu Xining’s eyes glimmered. With the last bit of the letter between her fingertips, she brought it to her nose and sniffed, realizing the scent resembled bird feed. She quickly deduced the paper was made from feed, crafted to be delivered by the bird and consumed after reading.
Feeding the final piece to the seabird, Lu Xining stroked its well-behaved little head, softly whispering, "Thanks for your hard work, Little Fatty."
"Chirp! Chirp chirp chirp!" Its cursing was truly foul.
The seabird left the balcony outside Lu Xining’s room, while she returned indoors to catch up on sleep. With so much to handle tonight, she’d need to recharge her energy.
Before dozing off, her thoughts lingered on the contents of the letter.
Lu Xining glanced briefly at the phone on her bedside table and sighed inwardly. Perhaps this was the best outcome for her and him.
