Be Careful, Scum Dad! Mommy Is Back! -
Chapter 371 Injured
Chapter 371: Chapter 371 Injured
Lu Xining nodded at him.
"Xiao Chao, Xiao Ze, Nuonuo will definitely follow Uncle Fu back to Country C. If you two prefer to go back to Jingzhou and accompany Great Grandpa, Mom can send you back. But if you want to play together with your sister, then follow Uncle Fu to the estate for a week, okay?"
Ji Ze had become much more composed these days.
Although he still had a playful nature, his time with Old Sir Ji had taught him to prioritize things. He understood that if it wasn’t something truly serious, Mom wouldn’t ask them to leave ahead of time.
He glanced at his brother and said, "Mom, I want to play with my sister."
Ji Chao also expressed agreement.
At the side, Lu Nuonuo, who hadn’t spoken all along, clapped her hands joyfully. "Yay! Nuonuo can play hide-and-seek with my brothers at the estate!"
She looked at her mom, whose face was clouded with worry, and proactively described various scenes from the estate to Ji Chao and Ji Ze, as if trying to heighten their anticipation in order to help her mom care for them.
"Brothers, there are many little animals at the estate, and we can play with them too."
Ji Chao and Ji Ze nodded in agreement, turning back to look at Lu Xining and announcing their intention to call their dad to inform him.
Lu Xining patted their heads and said, "Of course, go call your dad."
Little Dumpling, though already aware that her stand-in dad wasn’t together with that certain aunt anymore, still lacked the affectionate attitude Ji Chao and Ji Ze exhibited. She trailed behind her brothers as they walked to the room.
In the room, Ji Chao used his iPad, normally reserved for foreign language study, instead of his children’s smartwatch to contact Ji Muye this time.
As soon as Ji Muye answered the video call, he saw three little heads gathered near the camera.
Upon seeing him, Ji Chao and Ji Ze simultaneously called out, "Dad!"
Lu Nuonuo flashed a sweet smile and politely called, "Uncle."
When his two sons mentioned they would go to Country C for a week, Ji Muye immediately understood that Lu Xining must have encountered something again, needing to send the three children away to feel more at ease.
"Did your mom say why?"
Three little heads shook simultaneously.
"Alright, Dad understands. Xiao Chao and Xiao Ze are older brothers. Take good care of your sister, okay?"
Ji Chao and Ji Ze responded in unison, "Dad, we will."
"Nuonuo will take good care of her brothers too!" Little Dumpling raised her hand as she spoke, her gesture bringing smiles to everyone on and off the screen.
Suddenly, she squinted and leaned closer to the iPad, asking, "Uncle, did you put on lipstick?"
Ji Muye’s smiling expression froze momentarily, his tone slightly hesitant. "No, I didn’t."
Next to him, the two people cleaning his wound with disinfectant tools stiffened their hands, and Ma Sai eyed the lipstick in his own hand suspiciously. Didn’t the salesperson assure him that these nude shades were subtle and wouldn’t be noticeable?
Was it not lipstick?
Lu Nuonuo looked puzzled and curious.
When she leaned closer to the screen again, Ji Ze grabbed her twin pigtails and gently reminded, "Sister, Mom said children shouldn’t look at the screen so closely—it’s bad for their eyesight."
"Let go, Brother. Nuonuo knows already."
Retrieving her precious hair, Little Dumpling quickly hid to one side.
Hearing this, Ji Muye also offered some additional reminders before agreeing to let his sons accompany Fu Junhang to stay at the estate for a week.
Staring at the now dark screen, Lu Nuonuo still felt that her stand-in dad had put on lipstick.
His lips never looked this red in normal times.
Today, they appeared as red as fresh little strawberries.
In the other room, Ji Muye turned off the phone on the bedside table. Cold sweat continued to stream down his brow due to the pain.
Ma Sai hurriedly handed him some tissues to wipe it away.
Without the lipstick enhancing his complexion, Ji Muye’s lips were pallid.
"Boss, the wound is dressed." They quickly packed up the medical kit and left the room without lingering.
Suppressing the searing pain from his injuries, Ji Muye furrowed his brow and instructed Ma Sai, "Contact Wang Snake and ask her what she encountered today."
"Understood, Boss. You should rest properly too. This wound of yours..."
"Handle it first."
Ma Sai glanced at his boss’s injury, gritted his teeth, and left to investigate the matter.
Although Ma Sai had his suspicions, if Wang Snake truly knew what had happened, she would’ve sent them the information at the first opportunity. Her silence now seemed proof that even she was in the dark.
Ji Muye understood this logic, but the thought of Lu Xining’s stubborn personality left him feeling powerless.
Earlier today, he had been urgently summoned to accompany a secret meeting.
The conference revolved around several lucrative projects, and among those in attendance, almost none had refrained from wading into murky waters for profit.
The list of names involved in dark dealings for power and money wouldn’t fit on a single page.
Purging these individuals would mean extracting numerous hidden fangs—a task that would inevitably ruffle many feathers. Profit-driven motives always led to reckless gambles by some.
When problems couldn’t be solved, silencing the problem raisers was their longstanding tactic.
After the meeting, as Ji Muye exited alongside Xi Juan, he sensed imminent danger from the shadows targeting Xi Juan. While saving him, Ji Muye sustained injuries, hit by two bullets, leaving his face ghastly pale by the time he was treated.
It was just then that Ji Chao’s video call came through.
Fearing the kids might notice anything unusual, Ji Muye asked Ma Sai to fetch the pre-prepared lipstick to apply.
This trick had been suggested by a fellow "colleague," claiming it would reassure family members.
Unexpectedly, while the sons failed to notice, his daughter saw through it instantly.
There was a knock at the door.
Recognizing Secretary Cheng’s voice, Ji Muye steadied himself before responding, "Come in."
Xi Juan entered, followed closely by his ever-present secretary.
The room wasn’t large. Stepping inside, Xi Juan’s gaze immediately landed on Ji Muye resting on the bed, his freshly dressed wounds in plain sight.
He asked directly, "Ji Mu, how’s your health now?"
Ji Muye replied, "The wounds have been treated. Thank you for your concern."
Xi Juan’s voice was measured, "You got hurt saving me today; I owe you thanks for that."
His gaze lingered on Ji Muye’s bandaged wounds, his furrowed brow betraying a hint of melancholy. He remarked, "It’s shocking how bold these people have become, daring to launch attacks openly."
The more overt these actions, the more immense the power of those shielding them became.
Though Xi Juan’s expression conveyed his lamentation, Ji Muye refrained from commenting directly on those individuals or incidents. Instead, he offered an ambiguous reply.
"Once those poisonous stings are removed, there will eventually come a day when the clouds clear and the skies brighten."
"Indeed. Let’s hope that day arrives sooner rather than later."
Xi Juan didn’t linger long. The exposure of tonight’s meeting location necessitated a venue change, and many subsequent matters required his attention. After checking on Ji Muye, he promptly returned to his own room to continue his work.
Meanwhile, Ma Sai had just gathered some information and hurried back to the room to brief Ji Muye.
"The Royal Cruise..."
The man murmured the words, his steely gaze falling upon his leg wound. Of all times, why now?
