Chapter 1331: Chapter 1350: Parting Ways

Huo Beijiang pondered in his heart that he must properly teach his wife once he got back and have her learn from himself.

"Really too foolish!" he muttered quietly.

Wei Qin heard him and laughed, "Indeed, quite foolish; you should earnestly teach her by example, and have her learn from you."

This was a roundabout way of teasing him! But Huo Beijiang didn’t care at all, his determination to deal with Leng Peixi was unchanging, no familial bond or blood relation could hold him back.

"Wei Qin, you’re too hasty. Even if you do miss your brother, you should listen to Nan Fei, with her consent, rather than Jiang Dechun. Can’t you see that Nan Fei is the one who cares about Jiang Yang the most in the family?"

"I’m sorry!" Wei Qin sincerely apologized, "Because it was Jiang Dechun who originally rescued Jiang Yang from under the bridge and raised him, I had presupposed."

"You would not have made such a mistake before, the past is the past, the present is the present. Even if you don’t respect my wife’s wishes, you should at least respect Jiang Yang’s own wishes," Huo Beijiang pointed out sharply.

"Yeah, I wouldn’t have before!" Wei Qin sighed, covering his mouth as he began to cough weakly.

"What’s wrong?" Huo Beijiang’s heart jumped.

Wei Qin finally stopped coughing, struggling to speak, "I’m here to say goodbye to you! I really can’t wait for you to return, so I can only say goodbye over the phone."

Huo Beijiang’s hand holding the phone clenched tightly, the veins in his knuckles bulging. In fact, ever since he received the call, he had guessed that Wei Qin was calling him to say farewell, as they had agreed upon when they were young and Wei Qin was stricken with illness.

Back then, Huo Beijiang was young, not as mature in his thoughts and sentiments, nor as heartless and indifferent. At that time, Wei Qin’s health was very poor, and he would fall seriously ill every winter. Huo Beijiang feared the day when he would be unaware and his best friend might suddenly be gone.

Maybe he would go to school or play in the army, coming back after a few days to find his best friend gone without a clue. So, they made a pact that if the day came when it was truly unbearable, to please inform him in advance.

To let him know that his best friend was no longer there.

Thus, even if Wei Qin had unintentionally made a mistake during their conversation just now, he hadn’t uttered a word of blame.

"I’m sorry, Bei Jiang," Wei Qin sighed, "I’ve lived in too much exhaustion, too much pain. I can’t hold on any longer, so I’m leaving ahead of time."

For so many years, he had put in too much effort and endured too much pain in order to keep his heart beating.

Even breathing was painful, and for countless nights, he suffered from the torment of illness alone.

He had paid too much to stay alive, receiving too little in return—it was just too tiring, too exhausting... he really couldn’t hold on any longer. So, let him go first!

He was never afraid of death; his only fear was that his own death would hurt his father and his best friend. So he kept pressing on, striving to keep himself alive, despite, God knows, not wanting to live.

It was time to let go; to free him!

Huo Beijiang felt his eyes sting, probably from sand blown into them; the sandstorms in the desert were severe, and the climate in Kannaya was truly detestable.

Huo Beijiang took out a pair of sunglasses from the pocket of his jacket and put them on.

With the sunglasses on, the sand wouldn’t blow into his eyes, and they wouldn’t feel sore, wouldn’t hurt anymore.
