Chapter 1215: Chapter 1234: Contest

Her heart was indeed riddled with wounds, suffering immensely. Originally, she could have blocked everything out and entombed all of the past within her memories. It was all in the past, matters of a former life, but now she had been reborn, and everything was a new beginning.

In the past, that’s how she would convince herself, and she had succeeded. Moreover, she did it exceedingly well.

She worked hard to correct her old faults, worked hard to do everything right, treating family, friends, and lover kindly.

Yet now, Zhuanzhuan had shattered all her beautiful dreams. The pain of her previous life had spread to this one in the most turbulent manner, what could she do?

"I guess the unstable factor is your sister," Doctor Jiang ventured. "Is her name Jiang Zhuanzhuan? She’s your biological sister, right?"

Nan Fei suddenly looked up, her clear eyes filled with a cold and deadly seriousness, a hint of blood swirling within their depths. She pressed her lips tightly together, staring unwaveringly at Doctor Jiang.

Doctor Jiang was taken aback and felt an urge to look away under her gaze. Reluctantly rubbing her forehead, she found herself growing fonder of the young maiden before her. It seemed she was not only intelligent, but also mentally resilient.

It appeared that she needn’t worry about the girl succumbing to psychological collapse.

Still, with time, issues could still arise.

"Doctor Jiang, I would like to rest for a bit, may I?" Nan Fei asked calmly.

"Of course, you may," replied Doctor Jiang as she stood up with her notebook, ready to leave when Nan Fei suddenly spoke.

"Doctor Jiang, wait a moment?"

"What’s the matter?" Doctor Jiang turned back.

Nan Fei spoke again, "I’m fine; my emotions were just a bit unstable for a moment. All your assumptions will not come to pass. I know psychology is a very profound study, but please don’t use it on me, because none of your hypotheses will succeed."

Doctor Jiang simply shrugged noncommittally and turned to leave.

Outside the hospital room, a line of people stood, all of them cautiously observing Huo Bei Jiang’s expression. But he stood still, as immovable as a mountain, an intimidating gloom cast across his handsome face.

Spotting Doctor Jiang coming out, Huo Bei Jiang immediately approached her, moving faster than one could imagine.

"Doctor, how is my wife?" he asked.

Doctor Jiang gave him a surprising look, then shook her head before nodding.

"What does that even mean? Just speak plainly; why shake your head and then nod?" Huo Bei Jiang didn’t speak, but the others couldn’t stand it. Huo Kewei took a step forward and asked irritably, "Be clear. What’s exactly is wrong with my auntie-in-law? If there’s an illness, treat it; if there’s no illness, discharge her."

Over the past year, Huo Kewei had become fearful of hospitals and had developed a rather negative impression of them.

"Don’t worry," Doctor Jiang placated, "Jiang Nanfei doesn’t have any major problems. Just give her some time to calm down. Oh! Right, where is her sister? Has she arrived?"

Silence suddenly filled the corridor.

She had already explained the specifics to Major General Huo, and how he relayed it to the others was his business. Now it was the patient who was unwilling to communicate, and as she had just said, in the absence of the patient’s willingness, everything remained a hypothesis.

And a hypothesis was not conclusive.

Huo Bei Jiang’s face turned pale, everyone looked at him, but he was looking down the corridor. Following his gaze, the tall figure of Ying Jiuming appeared at the end of the hallway.

Who knew what material his shoes were made of; he walked silently, and if Huo Bei Jiang hadn’t noticed him early on, it was likely they wouldn’t have realized he was there until he was right in front of them.

"Oh! You’re here too," greeted Huo Kewei.

"You guys wait here; I’m going to talk with the doctor," Huo Bei Jiang left the group behind, forcefully taking Doctor Jiang away.
