Finally, she found some free time after the resistance war victory commemoration day.

Early in the morning, as the first glimmers of daylight appeared, Feng Qingxue was busy washing her face when Jiang Xiaoyue arrived, smartly dressed in her everyday clothes.

Even out of uniform, she retained her striking presence.

"Sister Qingxue!" Jiang Xiaoyue greeted her cheerfully, her face aglow with a radiant smile, "Is Xibao up yet?"

The first thing many people did upon arriving was to ask after Xibao.

Feng Qingxue could not speak with her mouth full of toothpaste foam, so she just pointed towards the dormitory. Jiang Xiaoyue promptly rushed in and lavished a freshly-awake Xibao, wriggling in his bed, with effusive kisses. Such an influx of affection caused Xibao to shy away, flapping his little chubby arms, "No, no!"

"Why not? Don’t you miss me?" Jiang Xiaoyue asked, feigning a hurt expression.

Seeing her like this, Little Fatty made an ’ah’ sound, contemplated for a moment, and then offered up one chubby cheek. After Jiang Xiaoyue kissed his left cheek, he offered his right, then his forehead. Not even his tiny nose was spared.

Du Xiaotao chuckled at the sight, "Xiaoyue, you two have fun, I’m off now!"

"Xiaotao, won’t you join us for some shopping?" Jiang Xiaoyue asked.

"No, I need to go home. My parents and my siblings are waiting for me."

Du Xiaotao, who hadn’t been home since visiting the border soldiers, was eager to return. Feng Qingxue and Jiang Xiaoyue completely understood. After Xiaotao was gone, Jiang Xiaoyue sat on the edge of the bed playing with Xibao while Feng Qingxue carefully applied her skin care products.

She rummaged through her storage space and found several small porcelain tea cans which she now used to store skincare products, filling up these jars as well as Friendship brand lotion bottles.

Water, serum, lotion, moisturizer, and sunscreen; all neatly lined up in these small teacans.

Jiang Xiaoyue watched silently for a while before, unable to contain herself, asked, "Sister Qingxue, why do you apply so many layers of lotion? During summer, I don’t even apply one layer. Are you always so fair because of the many applications?"

Beyond her beauty, the most enviable thing about Feng Qingxue was her skin, which was as white as snow and smooth as jade.

Regardless of when you saw her, her skin was as delicate as a peeled egg, so smooth it seemed a breath might mar it.

"Exactly! If you don’t use any, your skin will definitely get rough!" Feng Qingxue didn’t deny Jiang Xiaoyue’s assumption. After applying her sunscreen, she washed her hands and then washed Xibao’s face and hands, applying some lotion. She then began to rub a thin layer of clam oil onto her own hands. Her long, delicate fingers were as graceful as scallion leaves.

Jiang Xiaoyue looked at her own hands, comparing them to Feng Qingxue’s, they seemed akin to aged tree bark.

"I’m going to buy the lotion and the clam oil as well!" Jiang Xiaoyue declared loudly.

Feng Qingxue smiled, "Alright, but first, let’s go eat. What’s the best breakfast out there? Xibao and I will treat you."

"Bean juice, of course!"

Each of them had a bowl of bean juice costing 3 cents. Jiang Xiaoyue had the salty version, while Feng Qingxue and Xibao preferred the sweet one. Together, they ate seven large meat buns, two of them consumed by Xibao alone, each bun costing a penny.

The stall owner couldn’t help but comment, "Wow, such an appetite on the little fella. No wonder he’s growing up so chubby."

"Lucky," they kept saying he was "lucky," but wasn’t "lucky" just another word for fat?

Feng Qingxue stared at Xibao’s round face submerged in his bowl of bean juice and said, "Xibao, you should eat less!"

Xibao looked up, his chubby cheeks smeared with bean juice, "No, no, food, grow tall!"

A young boy at a neighboring table couldn’t help but burst out laughing upon hearing Xibao’s statement.
