Chapter 1544: Chapter 1544 Unreasonable 2
The triplets aren’t as studious as Xibao and Fubao. Although they’re a bit smarter than average children, their main focus is still on eating and playing, just like other kids. Luckily, as parents, Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue only wish for them to grow up healthy and strong, without pressing them to be extraordinarily intelligent. As a result, the triplets are currently playing steel cannon with other children and enjoying themselves so much that they don’t want to stop.
Playing steel cannon involves molding a lump of wet mud into a ball or egg shape, then throwing it with force to make a loud "pa" sound.
Lu Erxiong, being the strongest, makes the loudest sound and always earns cheers and applause from everyone. This little fellow then waves to them like a commander inspecting troops, which makes Feng Qingxue feel an irresistible urge to drag him home immediately.
Feng Qingxue comes to call them for dinner. Dundun and Zhuangzhuang, who had been squatting, immediately stand up, but Lu Erxiong remains unresponsive, his ears stuffed with donkey hair.
"Dundun, you and Zhuangzhuang come home with us to eat lotus root fritters. We’re not giving any to Erxiong," Fubao, who knows how to deal with her younger brother, declares. As soon as she speaks, Lu Erxiong drops his muddy lump and rushes over.
"I want to eat lotus root fritters!" To him, anyone who denies him food is a villain.
Wang Cuilan smiles gently and calls out to Dundun and Zhuangzhuang, "After your meal, you can come back to play."
Dundun and Zhuangzhuang are more obedient. Although reluctant to leave, they step forward as instructed. Their four little hands are covered in mud, but thankfully their nails have been trimmed short, unlike some children whose nails are stuffed with black grime or mud.
Back at home, Feng Qingxue first takes them to wash their hands and faces, and changes their clothes which are covered in mud and dust.
While they eat lotus root fritters stuffed with pork and radish stew with cured meat, Shen Feng and Su Meixiang are drinking bowls of spinach soup priced at one cent each at the military compound’s restaurant. The soup is accompanied by cracked corn mixed with brown rice, paired with a simple dish of stir-fried radish shreds.
Those familiar with Su Meixiang’s character immediately understand the situation and shake their heads in silence.
This kind of person truly doesn’t know how to manage life.
Shen Qing’s salary is decent, totaling around 200 yuan per month including allowances. For Su Meixiang to add a couple of new outfits or shoes every year wouldn’t be an issue—even buying a wristwatch would be reasonable, and no one would criticize her for it. But she insists on wearing new clothes and shoes every single month, leaving her family hungry month after month. It’s beyond comprehension.
After dinner, when Shen Qing hears from others that his wife and child had spinach soup with radish shreds for lunch, his face turns pale.
Someone then asks him whether his salary for this month had once again been spent by Su Meixiang on purchasing a woolen coat. Shen Qing snaps angrily, "I was afraid they’d run out of money for food in the second half of the month, so I specifically held back 50 yuan from my paycheck at the start of the month and didn’t hand it over to Little Feng’s mom. Yesterday, I gave her 30 yuan for the rest of the month’s living expenses. I’m not asking for them to eat white rice, steamed buns, and big servings of meat every day, but at least they could manage a decent meal!"
Captain Xu glances at him and can’t help but point out, "Early this morning, when I went to the supply store, I saw Meixiang’s wife buying leather shoes. Those leather shoes she’s wearing today, Blue Begonia brand, cost over 20 yuan."
Knowing Su Meixiang’s tendencies all too well, yet still daring to give her that much money—it’s become a joke ever since she extorted 100 yuan from Ye Xiangqian last month.
Shen Qing handled it relatively well. Upon finding out about the incident, he quickly took 100 yuan from his private savings and returned it to Ye Xiangqian, profusely apologizing. However, Ye Xiangqian didn’t accept the money, only saying it was meant as nutritional funds and a comforting gesture for Shen Feng.
Shen Qing is excellent in every aspect, except for not being married to a thrifty and resourceful wife. This is a sentiment shared by many.
