Shen Feng swallowed hard and said to his mom, "Mom, I want lotus root patties too, the kind with meat stuffing."

"Want what? You’re always thinking about food! Your dad only earns that meager salary—where would we get the money to buy meat for you?" Her looks couldn’t compare to Feng Qingxue’s, her long-sought woolen coat paled against Lu Tianhui’s, and Su Meixiang felt stifled. She showed no courtesy to her only son, giving him a furious glare before storming ahead alone.

Shen Feng clutched his dirt-yellow canvas school bag and trailed behind, calling out, "Mom, Mom!"

Su Meixiang walked quickly, and Shen Feng jogged to keep up. The mother and son overtook Feng Qingxue’s group, moving ahead of them.

Geng Xiaoqin chuckled. "Sister, is this your daughter Lu Tianhui?"

Seeing Feng Qingxue nod, she continued, "Tianhui’s outfit is really pretty—not cheap, right? Must’ve been pricey, and I bet you can’t find such fabric in ordinary department stores."

When I saw this fabric being sold at the Friendship Store, I bought it.
