Chapter 333: Chapter 332: If the pearl changes, what is it if not a demon?
Situ Zha looked at the book "Nezha’s Trouble in the Sea" and felt stifled with annoyance.
Mianmian had no idea the little boy next to her was getting angry. She earnestly finished reading "Aladdin’s Lamp," and only then did Gu Youyou come back with her pigtails done.
This morning, Gu Youyou had her hair in ordinary twin ponytails, but now she had two cute cat ears on her head.
"Wow," Mianmian was extremely surprised, "Youyou, you’ve turned into little kitty Youyou."
Gu Youyou touched her head, "Really?"
Mianmian nodded, "It’s true."
Indeed, Gu Youyou felt her hair and it seemed different from the morning. She wanted to see her current look, so her small eyes began searching around.
She was looking for the Role-play Zone, where there are usually mirrors for children to dress up and do their makeup.
Soon, after politely asking the teacher for permission, Gu Youyou went to switch to the Role-play Zone.
In Kindergarten Activity Areas, once a child has chosen an activity, they can’t just switch at will.
But Gu Youyou was only going there to borrow a mirror, not to change Activity Areas, so the teacher readily agreed.
After borrowing the mirror from the children in the Role-play Zone, Gu Youyou was instantly captivated by her reflection. Beneath the two black cat ears were little braids, sitting up pertly—it was so pretty she couldn’t take her eyes off.
She came back overjoyed, happiness in her voice, "Really, really, Mianmian, my hair looks so nice."
Mianmian, full of envy, nodded, "Yeah, Youyou, you look so pretty."
Then she raised her hand to touch her own shaved head and sighed.
If only she had Aladdin’s Lamp, she would wish for thirty more wishes, and one of them would be to make her hair grow out.
She really wanted kitty braids!
Mianmian cast another envious glance at Gu Youyou’s braids.
Gu Youyou played with her own hair for a while before suddenly noticing Mianmian’s discouraged expression, it took her a moment to realize what was wrong.
Her good friend didn’t have any hair now, couldn’t wear the adorable hairstyles like in the Variety Shows, nor could she have the teacher do those cute cat ears.
Suddenly, Gu Youyou felt terrible. Why did she have to brag about her braids in front of her friend?
Now see what happened, Mianmian was upset.
She cautiously looked at Mianmian, struggling to phrase her words, "Mianmian, when I get home, I will ask my mom to borrow some hair."
"Huh? Why would you borrow hair from your mom?" Mianmian, puzzled by Gu Youyou’s suggestion, asked in return.
Gu Youyou said sheepishly, "My mom has really thick hair, and every time she goes to the Hair Salon, the stylist says she has a lot of volume. Grandma often says, ’You are what you eat,’ so if I borrow hair from my mom, and you eat it, maybe you can grow some hair?"
As soon as Gu Youyou finished speaking, Situ Zha burst out laughing, saying while chuckling, "You’re actually suggesting Su Mianmian eat hair. Hair can’t be eaten, you’re so silly."
The other children who were reading nearby all laughed as well.
Who would eat hair?
You can’t eat hair.
Gu Youyou, hearing everyone laughing, knew they were laughing at her, and her eyes drooped sadly.
This is what Grandma always says, you know, you are what you eat. Could Grandma be wrong? Not just Grandma, Grandpa says the same thing and even tells Mom to look at other boys so she can have a little brother for me.
She just wanted to help Mianmian grow her hair faster by eating a little bit...
Alright then.
Gu Youyou thought about the feeling of eating hair and lifted her head to apologize to Mianmian, "I’m sorry, Mianmian, I misspoke. You can’t eat hair, and I even suggested you should."
Mianmian looked at Gu Youyou’s red eyes and her softer speaking voice, reaching out for a hug.
"Youyou, you don’t need to apologize. I know you said it because you wanted me to have hair," she said in a gentle voice, comforting her good friend, "I appreciate your intentions, thank you!"
Gu Youyou listened to Mianmian’s thanks and broke into a smile through her tears.
She whispered, "But what about your hair, Mianmian? It still hasn’t grown."
Mianmian patted her bald head, "It’s okay, I’m used to it. Being bald is especially cool. Just now, well, for a while I did kind of like your braids, but it’s fine, Mianmian can wear a wig."
Gu Youyou looked at Mianmian’s shiny bald head and nodded, "Mianmian with little cat braids would definitely be even cuter."
Once the two little ones started talking, everything was fine again.
Mianmian asked Gu Youyou if she still wanted to hear the story of "Nezha’s Troubles in the Sea," and after getting an affirmative answer, she turned to Situ Zha, "Situ Zha, can we look at this book you’re reading together?"
In the bookcase, there was only one copy of each book.
Situ Zha didn’t want to lend his book to Mianmian, taking it away, "No, I want to read by myself."
Since Situ Zha didn’t want to lend it, Mianmian told Gu Youyou they would have to tell the story another time.
She urged Gu Youyou to pick another favorite instead, and they could read together, but just then the book "Nezha’s Troubles in the Sea" suddenly slid over.
"This book isn’t interesting," Situ Zha said haughtily. "Only you two would like it, have it."
Mianmian accepted the book with thanks.
She didn’t mind what Situ Zha had said at all, since Situ Zha had backtracked earlier. So him suddenly not wanting the book seemed normal.
Since she was going to tell a story to Gu Youyou, Mianmian placed the book between them and opened it, starting in a babyish voice, "Let’s review what happened before, okay? This is a magical pearl. It’s truly magical. Once it gets inside mom’s belly, it turns into a little child."
"Look, this mom’s belly has gotten round because there’s a little child inside."
"One winter equals one year. Youyou, count how many years have passed?"
Gu Youyou counted, "Three years have passed."
She found it strange and asked, "Mom said I lived in a little house in her belly for ten months, just one winter, before I came out from that house. So why did this pearl spend three winters? Is it because it initially was a pearl?"
Mianmian nodded, "Right, because it’s so precious, it needs to stay longer in mom’s belly."
Mimicking how her parents told her stories, Mianmian interacted with Gu Youyou and then continued, "The pearl child stayed in the mom’s belly for three years, and just as the year turned to spring, a drought started. Every day was sunny with no rain, and the crops couldn’t grow. Everyone said it was because of the pearl, claiming that the mom was carrying a demon. Youyou, do you think it’s a demon?"
"It’s definitely a demon," interrupted Situ Zha suddenly. "If it’s changed from a pearl, what else could it be but a demon?"
Gu Youyou heard Situ Zha’s interjection and frowned slightly, "Mianmian, I’m not sure if it is. Mom said there might be little cats and dogs that can turn into humans and talk just like us. They’re called demons. But this pearl hadn’t turned into a child yet, right? So it probably isn’t?"
Mianmian laughed, "I also think it isn’t. It was just about to become a child, for the first time. The drought has nothing to do with it."
Situ Zha snorted coldly from the side, "You say it has nothing to do with it, and that’s supposed to settle it? Who do you think you are?"
