Chapter 299: Chapter 298: The villain is taken care of, make a wish quickly
Mianmian didn’t even see the change in Shakyamuni Buddha’s apparition; she had already run to the side of the Thousand-Hand Guanyin Temple.
Some monks who hadn’t participated in the chanting came over and stood in front of Mianmian.
"Female benefactor, you mustn’t do this, how can you destroy the Buddha statues of Fahua Temple?"
"Right, right, female benefactor, you mustn’t do this. The Buddha statues of Fahua Temple are the property of our abbot... ah, no, they are the public property of the country, you can’t do this!"
Hearing the monks’ persuasion, Mianmian turned to Su Chenjin: "Is what they’re saying true?"
Su Chenjin’s expression was indifferent: "False. The things inside Fahua Temple are like furniture in a house. The incense money is company revenue, and the abbot has the right to deal with it. As long as taxes are paid, the country won’t care."
As Su Chenjin mentioned "paying taxes", the monks didn’t look too happy.
If someone hadn’t wanted to destroy Fahua Temple’s statues and if Su Chenjin hadn’t brought up the word "paying taxes" today, they would’ve almost forgotten that revenue from Fahua Temple had to be handed over to the country, not kept entirely by the temple!
Seeing the monks’ expressions, Su Chenjin instantly understood that Fahua Temple might really have not paid any taxes.
So many gold bars, not a single tax paid; just how far was Fahua Temple reaching?
While Su Chenjin was thinking about this, Mianmian climbed up on the Guanyin statue and her little fist smashed straight in. Except, this time, there were no gold bars inside.
Little Bun found it strange. Were the monks of Fahua Temple showing partiality? Why hadn’t they put gold bars inside the Guanyin statue?
She decided to get to the bottom of it and casually smashed open one of the Guanyin statue’s arms.
Instantly, something radiating silver light fell out.
Mianmian reached out and grabbed it in her hand.
"Oh my, why is this hidden in here?" Mianmian looked at what she held, a small stone that reflected light; she soon lost interest in it.
Su Chenjin said, "Little Auntie, did you forget about the gem you were going to give to the foreign business partner? This is also a type of gem."
Mianmian’s eyes lit up: "Right."
That gem, when shown to the foreigner, had elicited a reaction that didn’t suggest it was worthless.
Little Bun figured it out and kept smashing the statue’s arms.
Luckily, the outer material of the statue wasn’t entirely made of lime but had a solid mold inside; otherwise, Little Bun might have fallen from above.
The Thousand-Hand Guanyin, each hand with a bracelet or ring as an ornament; Little Bun, eager to collect these items was quite busy and joyful.
After all the arms were taken, Mianmian was finally satisfied and came down.
The monks from Fahua Temple, sticks in hand, hesitated whether or not to make a move.
The abbot had said that Little Auntie was a distinguished guest of the temple, so they dared not act. If they disrupted the abbot’s plans, the consequences were unthinkable!
Mianmian saw their hesitation, tilted her little head, and with a slide of her chubby legs, she weaved through the monks.
Before the monks could react, their hands were suddenly empty.
Upon closer inspection, Little Bun was holding their martial monk staffs, and with a rub of her two little hands, the staffs collectively snapped.
A group of monks stood in place, disheveled by no wind.
They say a single chopstick easily breaks, but a bundle cannot be broken. How come this proverb doesn’t apply to Little Auntie? There were ten of them with ten martial monk staffs, and they were all broken at once?
How could Little Auntie possess such immense strength?
Unstoppable, totally unstoppable, not in the slightest! Let’s just give up!
A group of monks, whistling as if nothing had happened, turned around and left the Main Hall, actually just walking away like that!
The phantom in midair was furious.
These monks really are useless, all they do is eat their fill! Other than offering belief points, they are good for nothing!
After the phantom became angry, the fleeing monks didn’t get far before they collapsed to the ground. Black mist flowed out from their foreheads, being absorbed by the phantom.
Mianmian caught sight of this and cried out, "Oh my, what are you doing, Buddha? Why have they fallen to the ground, and their souls are still unstable?"
The phantom was startled by Mianmian and stopped absorbing the monks’ souls, pretending instead, "I was expelling the evil thoughts from their hearts, it’s fine."
Having said this, it didn’t continue to absorb anymore.
The monks woke up and after standing up, cold sweat broke out on their foreheads.
Had they just angered the Buddha of Fahua Temple?
In Fahua Temple anything was possible, except betraying Buddha. After betrayal, they would end up just like those pilgrims, dying a horrible death!
The monks were too scared, so they could only run to the Main Hall. Inside the Main Hall, Yong Hui and Yong Jue were still devoutly chanting scriptures. Once the chanting began, it couldn’t stop; they had to continuously send pure Buddha’s Dharma aura outside of the temple.
The monks didn’t dare to disturb Yong Hui, so they simply sat down to meditate as well.
So what if it was chanting? They could chant too! It didn’t matter what happened to the temple; after all, the "Buddha" was there, the "Buddha" would handle it!
With the obstructing monks gone, Mianmian continued towards the Side Hall.
This time the phantom had learned its lesson, continuing to pretend to strike things out of the Buddha statues, fearing Mianmian would smash them again.
Little did it know Mianmian wasn’t one for following scripts; she smashed every one she saw. Perhaps feeling it wasn’t quite satisfying to smash with her hands, she even moved a stone stool from outside that was used as a decoration to specifically smash the statues.
The phantom was also acting, unable to prevent it, and could only watch as Mianmian swept away all the treasures inside.
Mianmian smashing the statues actually had a reason.
She had asked the phantom how the objects inside the Buddha statues appeared, and though the phantom didn’t answer, she actually had a vague guess.
Her mother had said that in ancient times the leaders of tribes naturally had divine power. But besides this, the belief or lack thereof from the tribe members toward them was also key to their increase in strength.
Belief points could enhance strength, but also required a vessel.
These Buddha statues were the vessels that bred evil, a path for the phantom to gain strength. And if the phantom combined with the vessel, it might unleash even greater power.
Only by destroying the vessels could she nip this possibility in the bud!
As for what the phantom truly was, she still needed to continue acting with the phantom to see if it would reveal itself later.
In the end, none of the Buddha statues in the Side Hall were left intact.
Mianmian even found excuses to destroy all the paintings, stone pillars, and such outside as well.
The entire Fahua Temple was a mess, as if it had been plundered by bandits.
The phantom had endured for so long, and felt that it was time for this play to end. It released more of Buddha’s Dharma aura, its surrounding halo becoming even more intense.
Then, with a smile, it floated in front of Mianmian, matching her height.
"The bad guys in Fahua Temple have all been taken care of," the phantom said, eyes fixed on Mianmian, "Now, you can make a wish to me, and I will immediately rescue your mom and dad from disaster, and reunite your family."
As if to prove the truth of its words, the phantom gestured with its hand.
Liao An, the Yin siblings, Bai Bai, Xiaohu, Dahuang, Xiaohuang, and Yang Xian, who were all meditating inside Fahua Temple, all walked out.
They touched themselves and showed surprise on their faces.
Bai Bai even transformed back into her true Wolf Demon form right there on the ground of Fahua Temple, displaying her wings on her back to Mianmian, "Look, Mianmian, I continued to make wishes, and really got wings just like Xiaohu!"
