Chapter 298: Chapter 297: Treasure Box Reward

The soul had dispersed, spreading like a wisp of smoke.

Mianmian landed on the ground from the midst of the smoke, her little face bearing the pride that should be there.

The thunder she summoned was no ordinary thunder, easily killing a few Ghost Kings was just a piece of cake for her. However, this talisman was an exceptional performance during her learning process, and she could not draw a second one. Having used it here, there would be no next one.

Xuying had been waiting to hear Mianmian cry out for help, but what it saw was all the evil spirits turning to ashes.

It felt a pang of heartache!

If it had known earlier, if it had known that this child still had such a killer move, it would have absorbed those evil spirits first. At the very least, it could have fed on the malice to satisfy its hunger and elevate itself.

Now, in its attempt to teach Mianmian a lesson, not only did it fail to do so, but it also ended up losing more than it gained.

Xuying felt deep regret but dared not show it on its face.

It now had to appear as a benevolent Buddha, so it couldn’t reveal its thoughts over such a trivial matter.

"Not bad, not bad," Xuying pretended and took the initiative to turn around, "Let’s go, take me to see what exactly is inside the Fahua Temple."

Mianmian lifted her hand asking Su Chenjin for a hug. After being picked up, she giggled in Su Chenjin’s ear.

She guessed that Xuying wanted to use those ghosts to harm her. To think so little of her, hmph!

Upon hearing Little Auntie’s cold hum, the corners of Su Chenjin’s lips lifted slightly.

Little Auntie, single-handedly overcoming the scheme, was feeling proud!

The handsome man lifted his eyes to look at the Xuying in the sky, his eyes slightly narrowed.

Having mingled in the business world for so many years, he had only seen buyers and sellers tentatively probe each other like this. Knowing full well the other party’s chips and intentions, they pretended to be unaware, probing the other’s bottom line time and again, hoping to acquire the desired objects in the most advantageous way for themselves, or to gain more benefits.

But he had not expected that supernatural beings also fought over power in the same manner. They spoke half-truths, mixing truth and falsehood, careful not to give the other party a handle to grasp.

Now that Xuying had agreed to submit itself, who knew if it still held some hidden cards?

As Su Chenjin pondered, he glanced down at the Little Bun in his arms.

No worries, Little Auntie was clever. Except for the time right after descending the mountain when she was almost deceived by the evil spirit trying to possess him, there had been no other incidents.

"It’s right here," Mianmian directed Su Chenjin, walking towards the Side Hall of the Thousand-Hand Guanyin, "There’s something inside the Guanyin statue, look, it’s even moving its eyes to watch me."

The Dharma Body of the Buddha reduced itself in size and also entered the Side Hall of the Guanyin statue.

Its look was icy, and without much nonsense, it reached straight out towards the Guanyin statue.

A Buddhist "Swastika" emerged from the Xuying’s palm, drifting towards the Guanyin statue. In an instant, a black, eerie Xuying floated out from inside the statue.

Perhaps because it had stayed inside the Guanyin statue for too long, this Xuying was not only pitch-black, but its arms were also as numerous as those of the Guanyin statue, resembling an octopus.

Upon seeing this shadow, Mianmian didn’t even glance at the fake Buddha, instead imitating the fake Buddha’s action by extending her little hand and releasing a palm-sized thunder, obliterating the shadow on the spot.

The pure Dharma of Buddhism was the nemesis of these demonic beings. For cultivators who had not entered Buddhism, only thunder could be used as the nemesis of these demons.

Mianmian’s move was so fast, Xuying didn’t even have time to react before seeing the black shadow dissipate, nearly causing Xuying to grind its own molars to bits.

If it had molars, that is!

That black shadow was a part of it, and it had planned to make a show of driving it away while actually incorporating it back into its body!

"I wonder how they ended up inside the statues," Mianmian said after disposing of the shadow, looking back at the Xuying, "Buddha, do you know why? These statues and Bodhisattva statues are here receiving the worship of tens of thousands, they should be the Dharma Bodies of the many Bodhisattvas, they shouldn’t develop consciousness on their own and then turn bad."

Xuying’s face clearly changed upon hearing Mianmian’s question.

Develop consciousness on their own?

There’s nothing that shouldn’t be!

Hasn’t this child ever heard the saying, "Whatever exists is reasonable"?

"All things in the world are void; what difference does it make whether they exist or not?" Xuying lowered their gaze, with a sad yet compassionate tone, "You acted too quickly just now. Why didn’t you wait for me to try and persuade him?"

Mianmian thought to herself: As if I’d let you persuade him! Don’t think Mianmian doesn’t know, that was also you!

Little Bun walked straight towards the Side Hall, responding in a milky voice, "Buddha needs to gather strength to help Mianmian fulfill even greater wishes. It’s better for Mianmian to force these out and take care of them for you."

Hearing the child’s stubborn refusal to let them persuade, Xuying decided in an instant to be more economical; they couldn’t let the child destroy too many of their divided souls!

While Xuying was thinking this, they arrived at the Maitreya Buddha’s Side Hall.

The chubby Buddha statue sat there without any abnormalities, its eyes showing no change—under the candlelight, it was just a lifeless object.

Xuying’s voice, still echoing, cut straight to the chase, "This statue of Maitreya Buddha has no problems; let’s go somewhere else."

Mianmian’s eyes flickered and she retorted, "That won’t do. If there’s no problem, who’s to say it didn’t run away and might come back later? We can’t allow that to happen!"

Having said that, she quickly climbed onto the altar and in no time was beside the Buddha statue, climbing up to the top by means of the reachable parts and finally sat on the statue’s shoulder.

And really, with Little Bun’s fair skin pressed so close to the golden statue, she didn’t stand out in the slightest—it was as if a delicate and lovely Little Auntie was meant to be there.

"What are you doing?" Xuying asked, with a tone full of shock and disbelief, "You’re not going to—"

Exactly, that’s it!

Mianmian smiled at Xuying, the kind with all eight teeth showing, and then raised her little fist to smash it into the Buddha statue’s head.

With one punch, Mianmian realized something was off.

The Buddha statue was actually hollow?

She immediately threw a few more punches until Maitreya Buddha’s face was completely shattered; then she reached her head inside to look.

"Wow..." Little Bun gasped in amazement, "So much gold!!!"

Indeed!

The hollow statue contained many gold bars. The broken face allowed light to enter, making the gold bars glisten.

One might have heard of making Buddha statues from gold, but not of using Buddha statues to store gold.

Are all the monks at Fahua Temple so wealthy?

Mianmian suddenly remembered something her mother had told her.

In ancient times, the Jiang Family hunted demons, and compensation was not only from the client but also from the target. This was like the foreign "defeat-the-monster-to-get-the-treasure-box" games; after defeating a monster, the treasure box would often contain a generous reward, accumulated by the demons.

When you see them later, don’t be shy—boldly collect them all.

Buddhist cultivators don’t need these material possessions, but those outside of Buddhism, like themselves, greatly needed them!

Mianmian thought about how she had wanted to help those kidnapped dogs earlier. But she didn’t have the manpower to use, nor did she have a company then.

If she had money, she could start her own company!

The little one jumped out from Maitreya Buddha’s broken face and hid inside the statue’s belly, stuffing more than twenty gold bars into her small bag.

Once finished, she eyed the Thousand-Hand Guanyin—it certainly contained treasures too. She was about to get rich again!

Xuying, watching Mianmian’s actions, floated into the Maitreya Buddha statue and saw that all the gold inside was gone. They were so angry that their entire form began to flicker.

Those gold bars, those markers of respect from Yong Hui, were offerings to them!

What right did this Little Bun have to take them all?!

For a moment, Xuying, who had shone with a golden Buddha-like aura, now seemed enveloped in black mist. This black mist didn’t look much different from those of the Ghost Kings floating outside earlier.
