Chapter 99: Little monster

Chapter 99 - Little monster

Aaron ground his teeth angrily, the grinding sound could be heard yet no one could say anything beside him. He looked like it remained a second for him to tick off.

After begrudgingly leaving Katherine’s side—the side he was supposed to be snuggling into right now—yet he was here, trying to keep everything under wrap.

God bless the person who tried this stunt!

"I’ve got the IP address," Raymond said, walking into the room with his laptop in his hand, "the address is from Federal City."

"And?" Aaron prompted, clenching his hands together, his foot tapping. With every time he was wasting here, he didn’t know what could be going through Katherine’s head. She was absolutely shaken up earlier when he told her, and he really hoped she wasn’t overthinking herself.

Raymond grumbled under his breath then sighed, "It’s traced to one gambler paparazzi, and I’ve been able to hack his phone to see he had been talking to..." he paused, and Aaron raised his brow, waiting for him to continue his words.

Aaron’s first suspect was his mother. He knew his mother could do it but knew his mother wouldn’t want a backlash for the company, so his mother was ruled out. But with Raymond hesitant to talk, he ground his teeth hard, trying to prepare his mind for the inevitable.

"Amanda."

Aaron slumped his shoulder, releasing a breath of relief. Thank God it wasn’t his mother, then swore under his breath.

He really thought he had deleted Amanda, but she was able to pull this string.

"Fuck," he swore as Raymond waited for him for orders. "Arrest the paparazzi for invasion of privacy," he muttered.

"What about Amanda?"

"Leave her alone."

"Are you serious, boss?" Raymond asked, shock and disbelief in his voice.

"Yes," Aaron responded. It wasn’t because there was any attachment he had for Amanda, but this would be the last streak of kindness he would show Amanda.

"Okay, boss." Raymond nodded, typing furiously on his laptop.

"Begin preparing the camera for the public talk," Aaron said, looking at his watch. His phone had been ringing since morning after that news, investors and partners asking about the incident, and he didn’t have time to explain himself to them.

After the camera and everything had been prepared, Aaron stood at the camera, his brow furrowed, gesturing to Raymond to start the live video.

"I know people have been wondering about the news that spread around since last night." He started, his voice calm and firm, staring at the camera with a steady gaze. He didn’t have anything to hide or any skeleton in his cupboard.

A bulletin comment shot up on the screen, "Are the pictures true or edited?"

Aaron smirked, locking his hands together and leaned back, "The pictures aren’t edited, and those children are mine," he confirmed, and a series of questions started to show on the screen.

"I have nothing to say about my marriage with my ex-wife, but the woman in the picture is the mother of my children. She’s not a mistress nor a concubine." He had a little smile on his face.

"Something happened years ago, and she had to take care of them alone, raising them to be the perfect children they are. And this was kept quiet because my woman doesn’t want eyes squinting into her life. All she wants is peace," he said.

"I’ve missed so much in their life, and now that I’m here, I don’t want the public in my family time. And not to fail them again. I am part of their life now, and it’s my duty to protect them," he uttered unwaveringly.

"This is my public statement, and I’d implore the public to respect my family’s privacy." He tilted his head a little in a bow, then his eyes glinted a little, "And if any attempt to harass my family or invade our privacy, the entity would face legal consequences."

"Thank you." Aaron finished, and the screen went off.

"Woah," Raymond clapped his hands, whistling at Aaron. "That’s so powerful, boss."

Aaron picked a bottle of water and gulped it down. "Check the public opinion and comments."

"Boss, your speech is trending over the Internet, and some clips are being used," Raymond said, holding the laptop.

Raymond cleared his throat as he read comments out amusingly.

.

"So mature. He didn’t deny his children."

"It’s a standard!"

"Awww, see how he called her my woman."

"He’s so responsible."

"No man can do it!"

"He’s so honest."

Amanda thought she had won. She had danced to the glory, basking in the win, but it was just her willful thinking. Her plan had crumbled, again and again.

Just the video Aaron made, the public opinion changed immediately as she read the comments. Amanda’s chest heaved in anger, rising and falling in an unrhythmic pattern as her eyes still glared at the screen, the headline blaring back at her, mocking: "Aaron Confirms Twins, Requests Privacy for His Family."

Amanda even thought the public would sympathize with her, like her husband kept a family from her, but the public didn’t even remember her. No one cared that she once wore his ring.

No!

No!

Her phone chimed, and she scrolled down before tapping the new message from the paparazzi.

"You fucking bitch! Do you see what caused it? The police are on my fucking apartment because of you! If I’m able to run away from this, I’m gonna haunt you the fuck down."

Amanda laughed maniacally, her head dropped back before screaming angrily as she hurled the phone across the room. The phone shattered into pieces against the wall.

Her stomach twisted and turned like there were needles in her stomach, poking her. Her breath was coming out faster and ragged as she paced in the room.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this!

It wasn’t supposed to be like this!

It wasn’t fucking supposed to be like this! She gripped the back of her hair painfully.

"Fuck!" Amanda muttered curses as she felt her eyes sting from pain, and she mumbled half-formed words under her breath, "He was supposed to suffer... I was supposed to ruin them as they ruined me, yet..." as she took a step, her foot caught the edge of the rug.

And in a frenzy to stop herself, she fell on her stomach at the edge of the bed, her stomach hitting the wooden end.

"Aah!" a wretched pain rumbled throughout her body, and a blood-curdling scream ripped through her mouth as she instinctively wrapped her hands around her stomach.

Pain radiating all over her body, especially her abdomen, as she glanced down to see liquid trickling down her thighs — red. Blood pooled beneath her, and she started to panic.

No.

No.

No.

This can’t be! I can’t lose my little monster also! She clutched her stomach protectively, maybe holding it would stop the blood gushing down her lower part, the metallic stench of blood hit her nose mixing with the bitter taste of fear clug her throat.

Amanda crawled to her phone, biting her lower lip to stop the scream, yet tears rolled down her cheeks. Blood trailed after her as she crawled to the shattered phone.

She grabbed it, touching it and seeing it light up despite the thousand cracks on it.

She dialed the number, "Hello, help!" her eyes hazy from lots of blood as she heaved with every breath. It was like her lungs constricted in her ribcage.

"Please, save the little monster..." she mumbled, and her body gave away.

By the time Amanda woke up, her eyes blinking to see the white ceiling and looked around to see IV drip attached to her wrist.

She breathed in relief, her hands going to her stomach as she gulped, waiting for anyone to come in.

Well, who would come in? She had no one.

Then in a moment, the door opened and a nurse, wheeling a tray, entered. The nurse smiled at her softly, the nurse’s gaze softened yet brimmed with pity, but Amanda didn’t care.

"It’s good you called the ambulance before it was too late," the nurse said, checking the IV and clicked something on it.

Then turned to Amanda, who lay on the bed, then touched her stomach, "How are you?"

Amanda winced a little, "Just pain in my lower stomach," she responded then wetted her lower lip, "How is little monster?"

The nurse tilted her head, "Monster?"

Amanda had a small smile, holding her stomach, "My baby..."

The nurse’s gaze softened, taking a step a little back from Amanda as Amanda stared at her with brows high.

"I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you lost the baby due to the incident and a lot of blood," the nurse relayed as soft and gently as possible.

Amanda laughed, her eyes closed as she laughed again humorlessly, maybe her ears were malfunctioning again. "You said what again?"

"You lost the bab—"

"No!" Amanda screamed, "No!" she shook her head vigorously, "That can’t be! My little monster can’t leave me!" she screamed, touching her stomach, her hands trembling as she touched everywhere on her flat stomach.

"I’m sorry—" the nurse said, but Amanda cut her off.

"Get out!" she yelled, taking the cup on the stand and threw it at the nurse.

No! She grabbed her hair again. Not her little monster—her baby can’t leave her alone. That was the only thing she had left in the world.

She curled herself, her hands wrapped around her knees as she rocked her body, biting her bruised lips. She lost everything. As her tears cascaded down her eyes, no comfort, no word of reassurance, nothing.

She was all alone. No someone to call hers, no money, her baby and everything.

Amanda finally understood what it meant to be the architect of their own misfortune. What it meant to lose everything in the blink of an eye.

Yet she lost everything with her eyes wide open.
