Chapter 100: Heart To Heart Talk

Chapter 100 - heart to heart talk

Katherine watched her children playing together as she kept her hands to herself. She didn’t want to go back to her room because sometimes one’s mind might be a weapon against you from overthinking. Her phone was beside her, yet she forced herself to look away from the screen, not to touch it or read what was happening on the Internet.

She laughed whenever the kids laughed, cheering them as they ran around their room while keeping her hands busy, picking toys on the floor and putting them on the shelves.

Then her phone buzzed, and she gulped, licking her lower lips as she sat on the edge of the bed and picked up her phone.

She saw a new message from Aaron, and she felt her heart in her throat like it wanted to be puked out. Her hands trembled as she breathed in loudly.

She clicked on it and saw the message: "Check the video." The message read with a link attached to it.

"Mom, who’s that?" The kids stopped running around and walked to her before plopping beside her.

Katherine didn’t respond as her heart thumped and clicked on the link, which directed her to a live video, and she felt all the air vanish.

Aaron was in a gray suit, his hands clasped together as the veins of his hands were prominent. Two buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, which showed the hickey peeking from his neck.

Katherine felt her cheeks flame—she sucked on his skin last night, and she didn’t know he would reveal it like that. She could read some comments of people saying the mysterious woman was so wild.

And she swallowed, watching the video keenly, not missing how Aaron’s muscles were bulging underneath his suit or how his lips pulled up, his brow quirked.

If beautiful is a man, then Aaron was beautiful.

Then when Aaron said "my woman," she nearly lost it. Her chest thumped loudly that she could hear it in her ears, her throat bobbing, and tingles ran through her body with invisible butterflies in her stomach.

"That’s daddy!" Jasmine grinned, pointing to Aaron, and Hanith nodded, his eyes glued on the screen as if he wanted to enter it.

And a big smile graced Katherine’s face without her knowing or hiding it. The tension vanished from her shoulders, and she felt lightheaded.

Then Aaron calmly threatened anyone who invaded their privacy, and she felt herself in a pool of falling all over again. His voice had a dangerous edge in it, his brow creased, and she wetted her lips.

When Katherine read some comments, she wanted to scream that "he’s my man!" yet she couldn’t do that to expose her social account.

Her face scrunched angrily as she muttered, "you can keep dreaming the man is mine."

"Mommy do you say something?" Hanith asked, cocking his head and Katherine blushed from embarrassment.

"Nothing. Continue with your play." she muttered.

"Okay," Hanith looked at her again, then nodded and continued his play with his sister.

After the video ended, Katherine couldn’t help but rewatch the saved live video again and again as if she wanted to memorize all the words poured out from Aaron. Aaron just indirectly confessed, and she felt her body buzzing, buzzing with undiluted happiness. Aaron always had a way with words that always left her breathless and crumbled under him.

Katherine noticed the time and finally dropped her phone before going to the kitchen to make dinner, and at that moment, Aaron walked into the living room while holding a polythene bag.

"Hot pot!" he raised it up, and the twins squealed, running to him.

She paused in her step, and both their eyes clashed, and unsaid emotions passed through them before Aaron smiled softly, his gaze softened.

"Daddy, daddy, we saw you!" Jasmine said, and Aaron raised his head to look at Katherine whose neck and cheeks were coated with blush, and she shrugged before he grinned.

"Really?" he muttered, dropping the takeaway down gently on the table.

"Yes, on mom’s phone." Jasmine clapped her hands together, then inhaled sharply. "So heavenly, daddy." and Hanith nodded.

After having their dinner, the kids were gently put on their bed as Aaron read the bedtime book to them, gently luring them to sleep. When he was done, he saw Katherine on the couch, her eyes closed. And he smiled, scooping her in his arms, and her eyes fluttered open.

Her emerald eyes clashed with his, and he gulped, "Go back to sleep, baby," he murmured.

Katherine shook her head, wrapping her arms around his neck as she blinked the sleep away from her face, "I watched it, thank you." Her voice was soft as she wanted to bury her head on his collarbone.

Aaron pulled her and grabbed her face, then claimed her lips. The kiss started gently like they were communicating what they couldn’t say, so slow yet passionate. Not a kiss that led to sex.

Aaron walked to the room and didn’t release Katherine yet as he made her sit on his lap. His head rested on her back, "I’m sorry, baby, for what happened today."

Katherine wanted to turn, yet Aaron didn’t allow it as he grabbed her waist tighter, "I should have prepared for it instead of exposing you to the world."

Katherine brushed his arm softly, "It’s not your fault, and you can’t foresee that would happen." she mumbled, "By the way, who did that?"

Aaron pulled her closer, "It’s Amanda."

"Amanda?" Katherine asked.

"Yes, but I’ve taken care of it." Aaron responded, and Katherine nodded.

A peaceful silence stretched between them, then Aaron placed a kiss at the back of her neck, which made her shiver from tingles erupting from her neck.

"I should have talked about this, but I don’t know how to start. Well, here is it." he started, "I’m sorry for leaving you that day." His voice was low, laced with heavy guilt.

Katherine turned and saw his head down in dejection. She raised his head up and placed a kiss on his nose, "Which night?"

"Six years ago," he muttered honestly.

"Oh," Katherine blurted out and tried to stand, but Aaron didn’t let her.

"Though I left that day to think about it. My heart kept telling me to believe you, that you could never do it despite those pictures, but my head, my mind believed it. And I left that day, and since that day I regret it."

Katherine opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out.

"Though I know that’s a silly excuse." he said, his voice cracked, "After thinking and finally coming to terms you can’t do that to us, but then I got into an accident—"

"Accident?" Katherine jolted, looking at him frantically as her hands roamed his face and chest worriedly.

Aaron smiled softly, "I’m okay now, but those times were the darkest moments of my life. I searched for you. I went everywhere, asked around, but no one knew anything. Then I went to grandma’s place to see the house had been leased out." and Aaron told her about the accident, months he had to spend in the hospital, how his football career had to come to a halt.

"I’m so sorry," Katherine mumbled, tears were already rolling down her cheeks, and Aaron wiped her cheeks.

"I don’t deserve your beautiful tears, baby," he murmured, his lips hovered on her face and licked her eyes and the tears. "I don’t deserve you, yet you still chose me after everything, baby."

"Stop saying that, Aaron," she said, kissing his Adam’s apple, "No one knew that would happen, and here we are after years of separation with kids."

"Yes, baby."

Katherine stared at Aaron’s face, "Sincerely, I really hated you those times you weren’t available when I needed you the most."

Aaron’s breath hitched, and his grip tightened around her, and Katherine smiled, caressed his face soothingly.

"I don’t mean now," she kissed his nose again, "Because after I left your house, school was unbearable, and I went to grandma’s place and she died, leaving me alone with pregnancy. I didn’t know who to turn to and put the house on lease before running away. It was unbearable, the pain, the betrayal and everything." Katherine mumbled, and Aaron gulped.

"I’m sorry." his beautiful face was wretched with guilt and sadness.

"Don’t say sorry, I’m not telling you this to make you feel sad or guilty. I just want to open up." she said. "So I left Federal City and vowed not to step foot in that place again."

Aaron placed a kiss on their joined hands.

"Then I arrived at this city with no one. No place, no family, just money from the house I sold. That’s when I met Mathew." she mumbled, and Aaron’s jaw tightened, not wanting to show his jealousy.

"The blondie?" he gritted out.

"He’s Mathew, not blondie," Katherine laughed, swatting his upper shoulder lightly, "I’ll forever be grateful to have Mathew in my life. He’s a brother I didn’t know I needed, a friend, a confidant, and my ally." She smiled, her eyes vacant as if she was pulled into the space.

"I’m grateful to him too," Aaron grumbled under his breath.

And Katherine chuckled, "Mathew saved me, he saved me from myself and my past. He accepted me with open arms. He didn’t even know me but accepted me in his house. I owe him more than anyone would understand." Katherine mumbled.

"He was there with me through every ride, throughout my pregnancy moment. I was new to motherhood and him, but we had each other. When I gave birth, the first three months I thought the twins were gentle and didn’t cry and throw tantrums like other babies, but I didn’t know that Mathew was the one staying with them throughout the night." she chuckled lightly, remembering the dark circles that haunted Mathew’s face for months. "Then when I knew, he told me to rest, that he’d do everything. As a mother, I needed rest."

Aaron’s heart twisted like a sword stabbing his head. He wasn’t there for her. He failed.

As if Katherine noticed his expression, she patted his cheek adorably.

"We both worked in the bar. Whenever any customer gave me issues, Mathew was there to scare them away like my guardian angel," she laughed, wiping the tears in the corner of her eyes. Though those times were rough, they were still good.

"He even pushed me to further my education online, cheering for me, helping with my assignments, projects, even my writing also." she smiled, "I didn’t actually believe in myself, but Mathew said, ’Fuck what people said, write what you want and I’ll be here to cheer you, be your number one fan and read everything. Even if it’s beautiful nonsense.’"

"He seemed like a good person." Aaron grunted.

Katherine pinched his cheek, "Not seems, he’s a good person."

"When I see him, I’ll be sure to thank him." Aaron muttered, and Katherine laughed, pecking his lips.

"Then we found ourselves managing a hotel, and I became his assistant—just the two of us." She laughed, "We have come a long way."

"I don’t like how you laugh talking about him," he grumbled, his mouth pushed out, and Katherine giggled, pulling his head on her chest and raking her fingers in his hair.

"Don’t be jealous," she chided softly, "I chose you, remember." she said.

And Aaron had a wide grin on his face, his dimple prominent on his cheeks.

"Thank you for choosing me, and I’ll use my lifetime to make it up to you and be the man you deserve." he said, then his lips hovered on her parted lips, "I love you, baby, I love you then, I love you now, and I’ll love you forever."

A pink hue covered Katherine’s cheeks, and he couldn’t help but envelop her lips in his.
