Chapter 105 - can’t lose you
No!
No!
No!
This can’t be happening. Katherine’s eyes widened in fear as she clasped her hands on the hole in Aaron’s chest, trying to stop the blood oozing out. Blood had seeped and stained his white shirt in a rapid, unthinkable way.
No!
She can’t lose him now when they just got together. Her Aaron—her hands trembling, tears rolling down her cheeks, each falling on Aaron’s contoured face in pain.
Aaron wrapped her hands softly, smiling—his beautiful smile that she loved so much felt like a hellish nightmare now.
"Baby—" Aaron gasped softly, his voice so low as he detached his hand from hers and stretched the bloodied hand up, caressed her cheeks adoringly. "Don’t cry, baby," he mumbled. "I hate to see you in tears," he wheezed.
"Why did you?!" she cried, her hands still applying pressure to his wound. "How could you do this? Why?!" she cried, her eyes frantically looking around to see people through her hazy eyes.
"Someone should call the ambulance!" she yelled in a pleading tone, then turned her gaze to Aaron, who looked like he was still holding the tiny string of life.
"Baby, my ears are ringing—" he coughed out, and his eyelids tried to flutter closed.
"Don’t you dare close those eyes!" she applied a little more strength to the wound. "I will never forgive you."
Aaron grinned, blood coating his teeth. "Is my baby worried that I’ll leave you..."
"Aaron..."
"I’m sorry for everything." His hands wiped the tears rolling down her cheeks weakly. "It seems I always make you cry no matter what—whether directly or indirectly," he said, his hands falling from her cheeks to his side. "I love you."
"No!" Katherine screamed, shaking Aaron’s cold body. "I love you too, I love you too, Aaron! Please don’t leave me again. Don’t—" she shook his body as tears streamed down her eyes.
The ride down to the hospital was bumpy, with Katherine crying, crying, and crying, still holding Aaron’s hand through the ride.
As they got to the hospital, the medic wheeled Aaron out on the stretcher as doctors and nurses ran to them. Katherine pulled one of the doctor’s hands, her face now designed with mucus and tears.
"Please save him, please, I beg of you. Please," she cried, clutching the man’s hand.
The older doctor smiled softly at her, not being disgusted by the blood that stained his wrist, and patted her hands reassuringly. "We will try our best, Ms. Please take care of yourself," the doctor said softly, slowly detaching his wrist from Katherine and rushing to the emergency room.
Katherine’s eyes lingered on the door as she wrapped her hands around her chest, pacing outside the emergency room as she clutched her arms tightly, trying to assure herself that everything would be alright.
Aaron can’t leave her, right?
He dare not!
How did it happen? It happened so fast! It was supposed to be her, not him! She bit her lower lip to stop herself from crying the fresh tears that were coming.
They were so happy this morning—smiling, stealing kisses as Aaron informed her he had someone to introduce to her. The person was his friend, and she had an unceremonious meeting with him.
That was why they came to the restaurant. Aaron said he would wait with his friend, and... she was greeted by Aaron with a bouquet of flowers before they were stopped by Amanda.
She couldn’t lose him now, not now nor never. Aaron had to survive this, she clutched her hands together to keep herself from breaking more than she had already.
"Goddess, boss will be okay," the new voice pulled her out of her thoughts as she stared at the man beside her. The man Katherine was supposed to meet today.
The man was dressed in a black turtleneck, beige trousers, his hair was messy from the amount of time he had run his hand over it.
Katherine gulped. "Thank you, Raymond," she muttered. He had introduced himself earlier, but that wasn’t even an introduction in this moment. "What about Amanda?" she asked, her voice detached. The woman had done enough damage in her life.
"She was caught on the run and she is in custody now," Raymond responded, then rubbed the back of his neck. "You can try to take off the blood from your..." he trailed off, pointing to the bloodstains on Katherine.
Katherine didn’t even notice that. She was so engrossed in saving Aaron, to make sure he was okay. Her Aaron.
Katherine’s eyes pulled away from Raymond when she saw a nurse come out of the room and she tried to ask, but the nurse was quicker. Then, within a minute, the nurse was back in the room holding a blood bag.
Katherine stepped back, shaking her head. She didn’t want to think of anything bad right now. That was the second blood that had been taken inside that room since they arrived.
Katherine sobbed into her bloodied palm, her breathing choking. This can’t be happening. Raymond walked closer to the wrecked woman and patted her shoulder.
"Don’t cry," he said softly. He didn’t know how to comfort her.
"I can’t stop the tears." She raised her head to stare at Raymond, her eyes were red, her nose scrunched. "The tears won’t stop," she cried. "I don’t know what to think, why would he do that," she said—not in question.
"Because boss wouldn’t want you hurt. He would rather carry the burden than burden you," Raymond responded.
"Amanda aimed that gun at me!" she pointed to herself. "It was supposed to be me lying there fighting for my pathetic life! But he—he," her body shook again. "Amanda hates me! It’s me she hates. If I’ve not met Aaron, all this wouldn’t have happened. I’m the misfortune." She pulled the back of her hair erratically.
"Don’t say that. The boss won’t like this. He wanted to save you, and that’s why he did that. And he won’t like you blaming yourself or crying."
Katherine sniffed and jolted up. Raymond stood immediately, looking at her worriedly.
"Where are you going?"
"I want to pop into the bathroom," she responded, walking down the hallway.
"Will you be okay?" Raymond asked but didn’t receive a response. He wanted to follow because he didn’t know if she would do anything extreme or hurt herself—because that would break the boss if he woke up.
Katherine entered the white porcelain-tiled bathroom. As she went to the handwashing basin, she poured a small amount of detergent on her palm and started rubbing her bloodied hands together.
The blood trickled down the drainage as Katherine stared at it, still rubbing her hands vigorously. The smell of the metallic now made her stomach churn and want to vomit all the content she ate this morning.
She raised her head to see her blotched face in the mirror. There was a blood handprint on her cheek and she raised her hands to it, tracing it gently as tears rolled down her eyes.
She didn’t know what she would do if Aaron never woke up. Maybe she would kill herself and end everything... All the madness, the miseries, and the pain.
Katherine didn’t know how many hours she used in the bathroom, just staring at her face and her hands on her cheek in the bathroom until a knock pulled her out of her thoughts.
"Are you okay in there, Goddess?" she heard Raymond’s voice, and she blinked the haze away from her eyes.
The knocking sound continued as Katherine felt her head pounding. She removed her hand from her cheek and brought it down to the running water to wash again. She needed to clean it off.
"Should I come in?" Raymond said worriedly, banging the door like he wanted to yank it open.
Didn’t he know this is the female bathroom? He might be arrested for sexual assault or harassment.
Katherine shook her head. Her hands were white and wrinkled from rubbing too much, her nails were sunken also. "I’m coming out," she mumbled, wiping her wet hands on her cloth. And realized she didn’t even try to clean her clothes also. It was covered with Aaron’s blood.
"You’ve been there for so long." Raymond said, his eyes raked over Katherine’s body to check for any wound, injury, or anything before he sighed out.
Katherine swallowed, rubbed her nape—she didn’t like how she worried Raymond. And as she walked out, swatting her hands, Raymond trailed behind her.
"The doctor said the blood transfusion was successful and the surgery is done." Raymond said, and Katherine turned back abruptly, which nearly made them collide.
Katherine blinked continuously as she clutched Raymond’s front shirt. "Is he okay? Is he fine? How is he? How—"
Raymond placed a hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Goddess. He’s okay and has been wheeled to the post-anesthesia care unit," he explained softly, looking at the woman trembling in front of him. "The doctor said he’ll wake up as soon as the anesthesia wears off."
And Katherine’s shoulders slumped in relief, stepping back as she placed her hands on her face, smiling, crying in relief.
He was okay.
He wasn’t leaving her.
He came back for her.
Her Aaron.
God! She rubbed her face, gently wiping the tears from her face.
