Chapter 43: The Energy Awakening

Raylan raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And what is it?"

Echo grinned slightly, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small folded piece of paper. "I have the ability to create skills. Once I write the skill I want on paper and then read it, I gain that skill."

Raylan’s eyes widened slightly, but he remained silent, waiting for Echo to continue.

"I tried two skills already. I wrote ’flying’ on paper, then read it aloud, and I actually flew. But..." Echo scratched his head. "I only flew two centimeters off the ground."

Raylan chuckled. "Two centimeters? That’s barely considered flying."

"I know," Echo admitted. "But it means that when my energy becomes very large, I might be able to create much stronger skills."

Raylan nodded in understanding. "That is indeed an interesting ability. But abilities alone don’t determine strength—hard work does. Now, let’s see what type of energy you have."

The Energy Awakening

Echo took a deep breath and placed his hand on the stone.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then, the stone began to glow.

A medium blue light radiated from it, filling the room with a soft glow. It wasn’t particularly bright, nor was it dim—it was simply average.

Raylan crossed his arms and sighed. "Congratulations, Echo. You have mana energy."

Echo stared at the stone, waiting for something else to happen. But the light remained the same.

Raylan continued, "Your talent is... average. It seems you don’t have exceptional potential in mana energy, but with hard work, you can still become strong."

Echo blinked. "Hmmm, not bad."

He wasn’t disappointed, nor was he particularly excited. It was simply another piece of information to add to his understanding of this world. His mana energy was average—but his skill creation ability was unique. That meant there was still a path for him to grow stronger.

Raylan patted his shoulder. "Talent is only one part of the equation. It’s what you do with it that matters."

Echo nodded. "Got it."

---

The warmth of the small house wrapped around Echo like a comforting embrace as he sat at the wooden table with his parents. His mother, Eileen, had prepared a warm and delicious pumpkin pie, the sweet aroma filling the air.

Outside, the cold night wind howled softly, but inside, the atmosphere was cozy and peaceful. The flickering candlelight cast gentle shadows on the walls as the family enjoyed their meal together.

Raylan took a sip of his warm tea and looked at Echo with a calm expression. "Tomorrow, we’ll begin your real training."

Echo, who was busy savoring his pie, perked up. "Training? You mean I’ll learn how to fight?"

Raylan chuckled. "Not yet. Before you can wield any real power, you need to learn how to absorb energy from the world. That’s the foundation of everything."

Echo nodded, feeling a growing sense of anticipation. After the energy test at the academy, he had been thinking about his mana energy and how he could improve it. If he wanted to create powerful skills in the future, he needed a strong energy core.

Eileen smiled warmly at her son. "Don’t rush things, Echo. Everything comes in time. For now, just enjoy your pie."

Echo grinned and took another bite, savoring the rich, creamy taste.

The Next Morning – The Garden of Training

The sun had barely risen when Raylan led Echo outside to the small family garden behind their home. The grass was still damp from the morning dew, and the crisp air carried the scent of fresh earth.

The garden wasn’t large, but it was peaceful. A few trees provided shade, and a small wooden fence enclosed the space. Birds chirped in the distance, adding to the tranquility of the moment.

Raylan gestured for Echo to sit down. "Since your energy is mana, I will start teaching you how to absorb energy from the world."

Echo sat cross-legged on the soft grass, looking up at his father expectantly.

Raylan continued, "Energy exists everywhere in the world, but not everyone can absorb it efficiently. That’s where meditation comes in."

He took a deep breath, then pointed to Echo’s chest. "Your body is like an empty vessel. To fill it, you need to draw energy from the world into yourself. Meditation is the key to doing that."

Echo tilted his head. "Meditation? That sounds easy."

Raylan smirked. "It’s easy to start, but it takes a very long time to master."

He walked a few steps away and then turned back toward Echo. "Listen carefully. First, sit in a comfortable posture. Straighten your back, relax your shoulders, and close your eyes."

Echo followed the instructions.

"Now," Raylan continued, "say the word ’Meditate’ in your mind and focus."

Echo did as he was told. The moment he mentally said the word "Meditate," something changed.

At first, all he could see was darkness.

Then, tiny glowing stars began appearing around him—countless specks of light floating in the vast expanse of emptiness.

Echo’s eyes widened in surprise. "Whoa... I see stars."

Raylan’s voice was calm. "Good. Those stars represent the energy in the world. Your task is to connect them using a thread of energy from within yourself."

Echo furrowed his brows. "How do I do that?"

Raylan crouched beside him. "Imagine a thin thread of light extending from your chest. Use it to connect the stars one by one. The more stars you connect, the more energy you absorb into your body."

Echo focused.

He imagined a faint golden thread emerging from his body, stretching toward the nearest glowing star. At first, it was difficult—like trying to grab something just out of reach. But after a few tries, he managed to link one star.

Then another.

And another.

A strange warmth spread through his body, faint but noticeable. It wasn’t overwhelming, but it was there—like a candle flickering in the darkness.

After a few minutes, Echo opened his eyes and exhaled. "That was... amazing."

Raylan smiled. "You did well for your first attempt. But remember, meditation isn’t something you master in a day. It takes patience and consistency. You’ll need to do this every day to strengthen your energy reserves."

Echo nodded eagerly. "Got it!"

Raylan patted his shoulder. "Good. From now on, you’ll meditate for at least an hour every morning. Once you build a strong foundation, we’ll move on to the next stage of training."

Echo clenched his fists in excitement. He was one step closer to unlocking his full potential.
