Chapter 33: Teacher Aurora... Trust!

He twisted the doorknob and stepped inside.

The moment he entered, a wave of surprise washed over him.

"Hmm? Teacher Aurora?" Matthew blinked in confusion. He hadn’t expected to see her here.

However, just one glance at her was enough for him to understand the reason behind her sudden appearance.

As the one who had personally created her, Matthew had made her exceptionally caring. It was only natural that she would show concern for her students.

Hearing that Axel had been injured, she must have rushed over to check on him.

Teacher Aurora was a graceful woman with long, sleek black hair that shimmered like polished obsidian under the soft lighting. Her eyes carried a faint hue of blue, calm and penetrating, and she wore a flowing white robe that lent her an air of gentle authority. The faint scent of jasmine lingered around her, soothing to the senses.

Her features were delicate and beautiful, and the gentle smile playing on her lips had a strangely calming effect, making one’s guard lower almost involuntarily.

Matthew’s eyes shifted toward the bed where Axel lay. He noticed that Axel’s complexion had improved slightly, color beginning to return to his cheeks.

"Matthew? What are you doing here?" The moment he stepped in, all eyes turned to him. Aurora’s voice rang out, curious and soft.

Then, as if remembering something, she gently touched her forehead and chuckled, "Ah, that’s right. You two are close friends. Of course you’d be here."

"Good evening, Teacher," Matthew greeted politely, his voice respectful.

Even if he might show disrespect to other instructors within the academy, Aurora would always remain the exception.

At his greeting, Aurora gave him a faint smile.

Matthew slowly approached the bed, the soft creak of the wooden floor echoing with each step.

He glanced down at Axel, who was covered in bandages. His eyes briefly flashed with coldness, but he quickly masked his emotions.

"How are you feeling now?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern.

"Hah, why are you speaking like I almost died? It’s just a minor injury," Axel joked lightly, a faint grin appearing on his face.

Matthew nodded slightly, relieved.

He could tell Axel was doing much better.

After all, the academy infirmary housed several students and healers with advanced abilities. It wasn’t difficult to patch someone up and return them to decent condition in a short amount of time.

Aurora, who had been silent for a while, slowly turned and made her way toward the exit. Her soft footsteps echoed gently, barely making a sound on the polished stone floor.

"Teacher, I have something to tell you," Matthew said after a moment of hesitation.

He had decided internally. Since changes were already unfolding, he couldn’t afford to be complacent. If someone stronger were involved, he had to be cautious.

He was certain that sharing this now was the right decision.

Aurora paused mid-step, then turned to look at him curiously.

"Go ahead and speak. Or do you need to talk somewhere private?" she asked, smiling warmly while subtly glancing at Axel from the corner of her eye.

Matthew shook his head and began to speak.

"Actually, I have a feeling that the academy will be invaded within a week or two, and Instructor Silas will be involved."

His words struck like lightning.

Aurora’s expression shifted, and even Axel looked stunned, his body tensing beneath the sheets.

Matthew had never told him this before.

Axel stared at him, confused and suspicious. How did Matthew know all this?

His eyes narrowed slightly, trying to read Matthew’s thoughts, but he knew now wasn’t the right time to question him.

Aurora’s expression darkened.

"Matthew, do you understand what you’re saying? Accusing an instructor like that..." Her voice trailed off.

But Matthew held her gaze firmly. The intensity in his silver eyes left her momentarily speechless.

"How certain are you?" she finally asked after a long silence.

"About seventy percent," Matthew answered calmly. He didn’t want to make it seem like he had a definitive source for his information.

Even so, both Aurora and Axel were deeply unsettled by his words.

Aurora fell silent again, then sighed softly, the sound barely audible.

"I will report it to the higher-ups."

Matthew shook his head quickly.

"I believe some of the higher-ups might already be involved. There’s no need to inform them. Just tell a few colleagues you truly trust. That way, we can ensure our safety."

Aurora stared deeply into Matthew’s silver eyes.

There was something hidden there, a secret she couldn’t quite grasp.

Though she sensed he was holding something back, she didn’t press him.

If he wasn’t ready to speak freely, she wouldn’t try to force the truth from him.

She nodded lightly.

"Is that all you needed to tell me?"

Matthew gave a respectful nod. "Yes, Teacher. Thank you for listening and cooperating."

With that, Aurora turned and left, her white robe fluttering gently behind her as she disappeared down the hallway.

Though she wasn’t completely convinced by his words, Matthew’s solemn tone made her feel the need to prepare for the worst.

...

As soon as she left, Axel turned to Matthew, a curious glint in his eyes.

"Was it really the right choice to tell her? What if she’s one of them?"

Matthew shook his head calmly.

"Even though I don’t trust most instructors or elders, Instructor Aurora is different. She’s reliable."

Axel didn’t pursue the topic any further, though his expression suggested lingering doubt.

"Hmmm..." The room was silent for a moment before Matthew reached into his spatial ring and pulled something out.

"This is the upgrade crystal from before. Take it."

Axel’s eyes widened in disbelief. "You’re giving it to me?"

He vividly recalled the desire in Matthew’s eyes when he first saw the crystal. He couldn’t believe Matthew would just give it away.

Matthew did feel a hint of reluctance, deep within.

But he needed answers.

Was the problem with the upgrade crystal, or was it something within himself?

By testing this, he would know how to approach the next one when the time came.

Seeing that Matthew made no move to withdraw his hand, Axel slowly accepted the crystal.

"This can be used to upgrade your origin ability," Matthew explained, going over its function and how to use it.

Axel stared at the crystal in awe.

Was Matthew truly giving him something so valuable?

He suddenly felt emotional, his eyes glistening.

"All these years of friendship have finally paid off!" he exclaimed.

Matthew chuckled and felt the urge to smack him.

How exactly does his brain work?

Soon enough, his laughter filled the room. The heavy atmosphere lightened.

"When I fully recover, I’ll use the upgrade crystal," Axel said with determination.

Matthew nodded.

Soon, his S-grade Copy Cat ability would become...

SS-grade Copy Cat.

And then, maybe—just maybe—he would be able to copy Matthew’s ability.

A wave of curiosity surged within him.
