Chapter 16: The Kind Hearted Axel... Telekinetic Ability!

Matthew contemplated a few things before finally deciding to speak.

"To be honest... You will die soon if you aren’t cautious."

"To be honest... they’re already watching you."

Axel stared at Matthew in confusion. "What do you mean by they are already watching me? And how?"

Matthew gazed at him deeply, then sighed. "What I’m about to say might sound absurd... but you have to believe me."

"Although you haven’t revealed to anyone that you’ve awakened two origin paths... apart from the academy, I know. That is the reason you are in danger..."

Matthew’s words made Axel’s eyes widen as he stared at him, shocked. He recalled perfectly that he hadn’t told Matthew this... in fact, it was his greatest secret, and he had only revealed it to ensure he obtained a valuable potion.

Sensing Matthew’s unwavering gaze, Axel ultimately fell silent... allowing him to continue.

"What you don’t know is that this academy isn’t as peaceful as it seems. There are spies within the academy..." Matthew said, his voice faltering slightly.

He felt the urge to smack himself internally.

’Why can’t I just write about a peaceful academic arc? One without spies of any sort?’

Unfortunately, the damage was already done... there was no undoing it.

After a brief pause, he resumed speaking. "Although revealing your two origin paths to the academy might seem like a wise decision... the risk involved is dangerously high. By doing that... you have attracted the attention of the spies hidden within the academy."

Finishing his statement, Matthew fell silent... only watching Axel with a calm yet scrutinizing gaze. He was waiting for Axel’s response.

Axel’s expression had shifted entirely. The carefree look he usually wore was gone.

His eyes flickered with uncertainty and contemplation... clearly, many thoughts were swirling in his mind.

After a long silence, he finally raised his head and looked at Matthew with a serious expression.

"Well, damn..." Axel cursed under his breath.

He hadn’t expected to already be targeted.

Although Matthew’s words were difficult to believe... Axel knew that Matthew wouldn’t lie for no reason. He had no motive to do so.

He also understood the implication of what Matthew had just told him.

"In that case... you mean..."

Matthew nodded, completing his thought. "I can’t reveal my ability to the academy... at least not yet."

"But how is that even possible?" Axel frowned, puzzled. "Your ability is... well, uncontrollable. It’s only a matter of time before someone discovers it."

In response, Matthew gave a slow, knowing smile. Axel found the expression rather unsettling.

"What’s with that creepy smile? I’m literally asking you something important here!" Axel groaned, rubbing his forehead. He felt a headache.

There was something different about Matthew... a subtle change he couldn’t quite define. He had never seen this kind of expression on his friend’s face before, and it made him uncomfortable.

"Well, I know of something that might help me conceal my ability for a while..." Matthew trailed off, allowing the silence to settle heavily between them.

Axel rolled his eyes in exasperation. "Stop being overly dramatic... like some kind of writer trying to keep his readers in suspense. Just spill it already..."

Matthew chuckled lightly, then finally responded. "The academy treasury contains the item I require."

Axel’s expression darkened with disbelief as he stared at him.

"Fuck! Are you crazy? You want to steal from the academy? Do you have a death wish?"

Axel was convinced that one day, he would land himself in deep trouble simply by being friends with Matthew... yet despite that, he didn’t regret the friendship.

Matthew smiled faintly, his confidence unshaken.

Stealing from the academy would be impossible for most people... but not for him.

He had written the mechanics of the academy himself. He knew about certain hidden elements buried beneath the surface.

With that insider knowledge as an author, the task, though difficult, would not be completely impossible.

Besides, there was his uncontrollable ability—decay. With a mere touch, he could reduce anything to ashes and dust.

This ability was the foundation of Matthew’s confidence in being able to infiltrate the academy treasury.

"I’m not crazy... hah, it’s just a passing thought though," Matthew said casually, waving his hand as if to dismiss the idea entirely.

Then, his eyes drifted toward another part of the room.

Glancing in the direction where several of his broken furnishings had once stood, he frowned. "What are we going to do about my furnitures that were destroyed?"

Matthew didn’t recall any scene in the novel involving broken furniture, and with his memory of the past still incomplete, he was uncertain how to react.

Axel thought for a moment, then replied calmly, "No need to worry... I’ll handle that."

He smiled, but Matthew could see something deeper behind that smile... an emotion hidden in his gaze.

He knew that revealing such heavy truths must have shaken Axel badly... but he had no choice. As someone he considered a friend, Matthew had to protect him too.

He wasn’t the kind of person who only looked out for his own interests while abandoning those around him.

"Thank you for being so helpful..." Matthew said sincerely. He felt fortunate that, upon waking into the world of his novel, Axel had been the first person he met.

If it had been anyone else... he doubted they would have been as understanding.

"Rest for a while... I’ll be back with a few furnitures. It seems we’ll miss Miss Lucy’s classes today," Axel said lightly. He then turned toward the door, twisted the doorknob, and stepped out, closing the door behind him with fading footsteps.

Matthew watched him go... feeling a twinge of disappointment about missing the instructor’s lesson.

Since he had created her character, he knew just how good a teacher she was. Lucy had always been kind-hearted, patient, and wise.

Unlike Silas, who was a dragon worshiper filled with hatred for humanity... Lucy was like an angel, always treating everyone with love, care, and affection.

Matthew moved over to the wall of his room.

Folding his arms, he leaned against it... eyes half-closed... waiting patiently for Axel’s return.

Thankfully, he didn’t have to wait long.

Within two hours, he heard the doorknob twist again... followed by the sound of approaching footsteps.

Opening his eyes, he saw Axel reenter the room.

"I’ve gotten everything..."

As Axel spoke, he stepped back and waved his hand. A moment later, several objects materialized from the air in a shimmer of light.

An Origin Ring...

Matthew instantly recognized the artifact. With spatial storage capabilities, the Origin Ring allowed one to store materials and objects within it.

His eyes swept across the room and caught sight of what had emerged... books neatly stacked on a new bed, with two polished tables beside it.

Knowing he couldn’t risk touching anything... Matthew simply stood by the wall and observed as Axel began to arrange everything.

Just when he expected Axel to start lifting things one by one... Axel instead waved his hand again. The bed floated effortlessly across the room.

Ashes beneath the bed stirred... as if controlled by an invisible force... gathering themselves into a neat pile in the corner.

’A telekinetic ability?’ Matthew felt the urge to laugh.

He didn’t expect Axel to actually copy someone’s telekinetic power... but it was useful. At least it made things easier.

Within minutes... the room was arranged.

"I really don’t know how to thank you for everything..." Matthew said, deeply moved.

"You don’t have to worry about that..." Axel replied casually.

"I have a few things to do for now... so I’ll be heading out. I’ll come back and check up on you in a few hours. Just don’t... uh... destroy everything like you did before."

Matthew chuckled... then nodded.

"Please... leave the door open on your way out," Matthew asked, seeing Axel turning to leave.

Axel cast Matthew a deep look... then nodded.

Matthew’s face held a hint of strange emotion as a thought surfaced in his mind.

’Now... let’s plan on how to break into the academy treasury.’
