Chapter 15: Axel’s Potion Path Ability...

The door creaked as Axel stepped inside.

He froze as his eyes scanned the empty room. The walls were bare, there was no furniture in his line of sight, and the air was thick with lingering energy.

His gaze snapped to Matthew.

"Tell me you have a good explanation for whatever this is. If not, you’re definitely reporting to the school authorities."

Matthew’s face held a wry smile as he said with a meaningful gaze, "Close the door first. This should be between you and me."

Axel didn’t think too much about it. Walking in casually, he locked the door and stepped to the side.

Matthew was silent for a moment, thinking of how to say the words.

Axel, noticing his hesitation, spoke with a light laugh, trying to lighten the air. "If you don’t want to say it, that’s perfectly alright. It’s just that you’ll have to handle everything yourself then."

Sensing the light humor in Axel’s words, Matthew had the urge to laugh.

When he created this character, he must have truly been in a good mood then.

Because of the lessened pressure, Matthew felt it was the right moment to speak up.

"Actually, you were right previously. It seems my ability isn’t as easy as it seems." Matthew’s voice was low as he spoke.

Axel’s eyes widened at his words as he stared at Matthew in disbelief. He had only said that as a joke, in an effort to comfort Matthew.

He didn’t think it was actually true.

"Are you sure about what you’re saying?" Axel asked curiously, raising an eyebrow.

Matthew just shook his head at his words, then slowly walked to his table under Axel’s scrutinizing gaze.

He glanced at Axel, then raised his hand and slowly placed it on a book nearby, carrying it and waving it at him.

However, the moment his hand came in contact with the book, just as he was waving it, ashes slowly trailed down from his fingertips.

Axel’s eyes widened in disbelief and his jaw dropped.

"Wha... what kind of ability is that?"

Axel’s eyes burned with a fiery gaze as he stared at Matthew in shock, an electric sensation coursing through his body.

Matthew sighed, then spoke up. "It’s just like I’ve said. This is the true nature of my ability, Origin Path. It seems previously the trigger was delayed, and after waking up today, the ability became completely effective."

Axel stared at Matthew and a look of hesitation flashed through his eyes. At that, Matthew just smiled faintly.

"Yeah, you can go ahead and copy it. Maybe you’ll be able to control it better."

Matthew said faintly, causing Axel to be slightly surprised and also puzzled, but he didn’t think too much about it.

Matthew took the moment when Axel was slowly bringing his hand closer to immerse himself in the fourth wall and speak to the readers.

’I mentioned previously that Axel had two Origin Paths. Well, this is one of them. Precisely, the ability he awakened from the potion path.

The ability to copy other people’s abilities.

Although it only lasts for a few seconds or, at times, a day before he can change it back.

The ability was slightly uncontrollable because it was of the Rank 9 S-grade.

But after taking successive potions and breaking through a few levels, one would come to realize the terrifying nature of the Copy Cat.’

At that moment, feeling a hand touch him lightly, Matthew was pulled out from the fourth wall.

He turned his attention to Axel and raised a brow. "So, what about it? How does the ability feel?"

Axel closed his eyes and immersed himself in his Origin Crystal.

In the sight of his Copy Cat gaze, he could sense the movement of Matthew’s ability Origin Crystal precisely.

Copying the same movement, he tried to replicate it completely.

Different from Matthew’s Origin Path, which allowed him to see the nature of others’ Origin Paths and walk on the same path, Axel’s Copy Cat could only see the innate nature of one’s ability and copy it.

A bead of sweat formed on Axel’s face as his brows furrowed in deep thought.

He had been trying to copy Matthew’s ability for a while, but...

"It’s too complex!" Axel could no longer hold on. Gritting his teeth, he spoke fiercely.

He turned to Matthew in shock. "What kind of terrifying ability have you awakened? Do you still consider yourself human?"

One had to know that Copy Cat was an ancient potion given to Axel only because he had two Origin Paths. It was also one of the strongest abilities in humanity, at the S-grade.

However, it was unable to copy Matthew’s Origin Path, Decay. That could only mean the grade of Matthew’s ability had long surpassed the S-grade.

At this thought, he stared at Matthew as though he was looking at a monster. It seemed in the end, Matthew, who some others had looked down on, was actually the biggest monster of all.

Matthew scratched his nose awkwardly, glancing at Axel. "It can’t be that exaggerated, right?"

From Axel’s expression, he could tell that the Decay ability was far from ordinary.

Previously, Matthew was unconscious when the results of his sleeper trial were being displayed.

Because of this, he didn’t know that his ability had been upgraded to the max.

It was now at the peak any ability could reach.

Matthew felt a mix of emotions because of this.

’In that case, I can’t reveal my ability to the academy. At least not yet.’ Matthew’s thoughts turned inward.

He had to hide his ability from the academy in the meantime, at least until it closed after the Dragon Invasion.

Since the plan to invade the academy was in motion, they would definitely keep their eyes on all the talents and measure their strengths, sending the appropriate Esper to deal with them.

If he was considered too weak for them to care, he could use that as an advantage to survive the upcoming Dragon Invasion.

Heading down this line of thought, Matthew understood that his chances of survival had increased drastically, but he couldn’t be certain of anything yet.

The silence lasted between them for a while before Axel spoke up once again, gazing at Matthew deeply.

"What are you going to do now?"

Matthew contemplated a few things before ultimately deciding to tell him a few things.

"To be honest... you will die soon if you aren’t cautious."

"They’re already watching you."
