Chapter 296: 295: Gotcha!

"Little lass, is this that kid?"

A voice spoke, it was human speech, but no one would believe that it had been uttered by a human.

Because this voice was so hoarse that it sounded like metal scraping against metal, it sounded so dark and sinister that it resembled the low and terrifying moan made by evil spirits.

"Hehe, a 1st level Divine Master, is this that scamp Yan Jie was talking about?" A different person spoke this time, but his voice was just as hoarse and hard to understand as the first one.

"He claimed that he could liberate us from this place, hahahaha, how stupid is that brat Tianxiao to believe this?" a third voice rang out in the air, and it sounded like teeth being ground together. The sound was so harsh and ugly that it caused Yun Wuji’s heart to spasm as those words entered his ears.

However, their auras were far more terrifying than their voices. They were as vast and boundless as the ocean, and they radiated a dark, oppressive might that was as heavy as ten thousand mountains.

Furthermore, they had not fully unleashed their auras yet. This was the spiritual pressure that naturally radiated from their bodies. But Yun Wuji could already tell that these three auras were stronger than Chi Wuyao’s.

Crack, crack, crack!

The sound of devil bones being stepped on slowly drew nearer. Yun Wuji’s eyes pierced the darkness, and he slowly made out three figures which resembled evil spirits within this gloom.

These three black figures were equally hunched over and withered. Their exposed skin was as ashen as a corpse, and it seemed to be wrapped tightly around their shrunken bones. Their four limbs were even more thin and withered than the branches of a truly dead ... They barely had any characteristics of a living human.

In fact, if they were to lie down on the ground motionless, everyone would believe that these were three withered corpses.

However, the movement of their withered limbs and the gloomy and hellish light that glinted in their eyes showed that they were still alive! Yes, they resembled three "ghosts" who were actually still alive!

They were, Yan Wanchi, Yan Wanhun, Yan Wangui.

"Venerable Ancestors!" Yan Wu resisted the urge to look away as her skin crawled under their gaze. Though they were her ancestors and she held deep respect for them, she couldn’t bring herself to look at them directly without feeling a wave of repulsion.

"This is Young Master Jiao. He has the ability to help you break free from this place and regain your freedom," she said, stepping in front of Yun Wuji in an attempt to shield him. After all, who knew if they might suddenly feel the urge to slap him to death?

"..." Yun Wuji glanced silently at her back, then at her long legs. At the same time, a faint black light flickered from his hand and shot into the ground without any of them noticing.

"You unfilial descendants have grown more and more useless with each generation," Yan Wanchi’s terribly hoarse voice rang out. "We old ghosts have been trapped in this place for over eight hundred thousand years. If there were a way out, we would’ve found it long ago. It wouldn’t be the turn of some brat still wet behind the ears."

"Even if there is a way, we old ghosts have already lived far past our lifespan. Once we leave, we’ll die," Yan Wanhun added, his equally hoarse voice sounding like sandpaper scraping against itself.

The main reason the three ancestors bound themselves to the Bone Sea was that they had reached the end of their lifespan. Logically speaking, if they were to find a way to sever their connection with the Bone Sea, they would die almost immediately.

"Respected seniors, that’s where you’re mistaken," Yun Wuji said as he took a few steps back, putting some distance between himself and Yan Wu. "This junior has a method that not only can help you regain your freedom, but will also let you retain all your power. You’ll have full control over your life force and souls once more. In fact, you could even live for up to ten thousand more years after leaving this place!"

"Ridiculous! Brat, today this old ghost will have you for dinner!" Yan Wangui, the third ancestor, scoffed in disdain. He stretched out his hand like a claw, clenching it tightly as a sharp, grating sound rang out.

"Nothing is impossible, seniors," Yun Wuji said calmly, completely unfazed. He continued to step back cautiously, his movements making it seem like he was afraid of them. "This junior has created many remarkable, profound skills. Lady Yan Wu has seen one of them herself; it can make anyone perfectly compatible with darkness."

"In the history of the Northern Divine Region, no one had ever even dreamed of such a thing, but I, Jiao Heng, made it a reality. So what makes you think I can’t help you as well?"

’He seems different from before... Is his soul really stolen?’ Yan Wu stared at the man with a trace of admiration as he faced her ghost-like ancestors. If not for the fact that he kept stepping back like a scared mouse, she might’ve genuinely respected his bravery.

"Hmm, lass, is what he said true?" Yan Wanchi asked, his voice rough and skeptical.

"Reporting to the Venerable Ancestors, what he said is indeed the truth," Yan Wu replied respectfully, then raised her hand and demonstrated her perfect control over the darkness energy swirling around her.

The three ancestors showed the same shock she had felt when she first witnessed the feat. Then their gazes shifted to Yun Wuji, who had already walked quite a distance away from them. Their eyes were filled with even greater shock and disbelief. Was this guy really that impressive?

Yan Wanchi glanced at him with his hollow eye sockets and said, "Brat, this old ghost will give you a chance. If you can truly help us, not only will we spare your life, but we will also owe you a favor."

"Thank you, seniors, thank you!" Yun Wuji stopped stepping back, clearly surprised by the sudden change in attitude. Then, overjoyed, he bowed deeply and thanked them profusely.

"Enough nonsense. Begin." Yan Wanchi said sharply.

"Right away, senior! Just give me a second..." Yun Wuji said quickly. He stretched out his hand, drawing the attention of the three ancestors and Yan Wu. Then, under their confused gazes, he flicked his fingers. The servile, scared expression vanished, replaced by a cold smile. "Let me show you what hell feels like."

At that moment, the air trembled.

Dark profound energy exploded around them like a storm set loose. It surged wildly in every direction, thick like the ocean but moving like a living beast. The ground cracked, the air twisted, and then, with a thunderous hum, two massive profound formations roared into existence.

One blazed high in the sky, spinning with eerie black light like a giant eye staring down at them. The other burst from the ground beneath their feet, a complex web of black chains made of pure energy, spreading out like the roots of some ancient monster.

The dark energy howled and wrapped around their bodies. Chains of shadow shot out from both formations, binding their arms, legs, and even their necks. Their profound energy instantly collapsed. It wouldn’t move, no matter how they struggled.

The pressure crushed down on them like a thousand mountains.

Everything happened so fast, catching them completely off guard. Then came the laughter of a beautiful woman, "Hahaha! I got them, Master!"

"What!?"

"Brat! What’s the meaning of this!?"

"Do you want to die!?"

"Jiao Heng!"

Frozen in place, unable to move or resist, the three ancestors and Yan Wu stared in disbelief at Yun Wuji, and the woman in black who now stood calmly beside him, as if she’d always been there.

"Master, did I do well~?" Hei Xiaolian asked cutely, sticking out her tongue.

"Yes, you did extremely well, better than I expected," Yun Wuji said, patting her head and nodding in satisfaction.

With the help of the Evil Infant, the ultimate ruler of darkness, an existence whose darkness transcended even the Heaven Smiting Devil Emperor, controlling this sea of darkness was like child’s play.

Everything he said earlier was just to buy time for Hei Xiaolian to finish the profound formations.

The only thing he worried about was that these three ancestors might notice something or try to kill him before they had time to set up their trap.

This was his and Chi Wuyao’s original plan—exposing the witches’ strength, showing off their might, revealing their intention to start a war... Everything was meant to make the Yama Realm drop their guard and bring Yun Wuji to the Bone Sea.

Yan Tianxiao was a cautious man, and he stayed very cautious until the last moment. He even sent Yan Wu to keep an eye on him, but not even in his wildest dreams would he have thought Yun Wuji had the Evil Infant’s Wheel of Myriad Tribulations and could control the entire Bone Sea.

Otherwise, he would have slapped him to death the moment they left the Soul Stealing Realm.

This plan was very risky. A single misstep could have cost him his life. If Yan Tianxiao had changed his mind and decided to imprison or kill him outright, Yun Wuji wouldn’t even have had the chance to step into the Bone Sea. And if the mentally unpredictable ancestors suddenly found him unpleasant, they might have killed him on the spot.

In fact, that was what they wanted to do at first. If not for Yan Wu, he would have had to thank her for this. Without her persuasion, maybe things would have been harder for him.

’I’ll go easy on her,’ Yun Wuji thought, looking at Yan Wu.

"Babe, link the formation with me," Yun Wuji said, patting Hei Xiaolian’s plump butt.

"Okay~!" Hei Xiaolian replied happily. She was actually very excited right now. Ever since Yun Wuji took her in and became her master, he had never used her. She had been feeling useless and like she couldn’t help. So when he told her about his plan, she became eager and excited to prove herself.

Dark marks appeared all over his body, flashing devilish light. He looked like a devil radiating overwhelming might.

As soon as the formation connected to him, Yun Wuji felt an incredible surge of strength. Even if he faced a God Emperor right now, he wouldn’t lose. With his control over darkness, he could easily control the darkness in the Bone Sea, though not as well as Hei Xiaolian.

Rumble!

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Under his will, the formations glowed with a rumbling sound. The chains around the four began to move, emitting clanging noises as they pulled them to the ground, forcing them to kneel.

"Brat! What are you doing!? Release us at once!"

"Fuck you Jiao Heng! You’re still in the Yama Realm. Once Royal Father notices, you’ll be dead!"

The four’s faces twisted as they struggled against kneeling, growling at him. Especially Yan Wu, who cursed this bastard. Just moments ago, she had felt pity for him, but now he suddenly pulled this shit!

"Of course I’ll release you, don’t worry. Just wait a moment, please," Yun Wuji said with a gentle smile. Then, before their horrified eyes, the dark profound energy surrounding them transformed into silver beams of light that shot into their bodies.

In the next moment, silver marks began to spread all over their bodies, rushing toward their foreheads before fading away.
