Chapter 245: Poochi the loyal dog

"Do you think the baby has the ability already? After all, it has been nourished by the spiritual energy from your core," Ethan asked curiously, his eyes fixed on her belly with a silly grin—clearly excited about the baby’s arrival.

"I don’t know—perhaps, or maybe not. Only time will tell. Anyway, Aunt said we need to prepare a lot of things. And honestly, I think she’s right... I might be carrying twins or even triplets," Elena replied, glancing at her growing belly and gently reminding her husband to be ready so they wouldn’t be overwhelmed later.

"Don’t worry. I’ve already prepared baby clothes, diapers, formula, and toys for my princess. As for the room, we’ll need to renovate it. I’ll build cribs for them. Your only job is to take care of yourself and the baby, alright?" Ethan said firmly, still shaken by her sudden dizziness earlier.

"Alright. I trust you’ll handle everything just fine," Elena replied with a soft smile.

"Let’s head home. There’s no point staying in this ward any longer, and I’m pretty hungry."

Ethan nodded.

And with a wave of her hand, they teleported straight to their bedroom.

"Stay in bed and take it easy. I’ll bring the food to you," Ethan said gently, wanting her to rest.

Elena was about to protest, but seeing the concern in his eyes, she gave in.

"Then I’ll wait here."

Soon after, Ethan prepared the food, and the two shared a warm, filling dinner together.

Afterwards, Elena took a quick bath and went straight to bed, feeling exhausted and in need of rest to regain her strength.

Ethan gently helped her dry her hair, letting out a soft sigh as he worked.

They were supposed to have a date at the lake today, but with his wife’s sudden condition, how could he possibly find the mood to tease her?

He then watched her sleep peacefully and leaned down to place a tender kiss on her forehead.

Then, he closed his eyes and activated his [Telepathy] to contact his grandfather, knowing the old man was probably still awake, worried about them.

"Grandpa, I know you’re still awake. Elena is fine now, so don’t worry too much."

"Grandson, I’m right outside your house. Open the door. I can’t sleep unless I know you two are truly okay."

Ethan was stunned.

He then carefully got out of bed and used his [Shadow Cloak] skill to instantly appear by the door.

When he opened it, he found Grandpa Caldwell waiting, along with a few others who were chatting and playing with their pets, Poochi and Mimi, while waiting for him to let them in.

Before Ethan could say a word, Grandpa Caldwell asked, "How is Elena? What about the baby?"

"They’re fine and resting now," Ethan replied.

Afterward, he explained why his wife had felt dizzy earlier and reassured them not to worry too much.

She was simply tired and needed rest, so it was best not to disturb her.

"Thank you, everyone, for coming."

"Alright, as long as she and the baby are okay," Grandpa Caldwell said with a relieved sigh.

"By the way, Grandma Ford," Ethan added, turning to her, "I’d like to ask a favor. Could you make more clothes for the baby? I think my wife might be carrying twins—or maybe even triplets."

Hearing his words, everyone’s faces lit up in surprise.

They were stunned to learn that Elena might be carrying more than one baby.

"Is this true?" Grandpa Caldwell exclaimed with joy. If it were, they’d soon welcome more Caldwell babies.

Just imagining the little ones calling him ’Grandpa’ filled him with excitement.

They truly felt blessed, even in the midst of disaster.

"According to Aunt Liza and Dr. Paige, yes—and I want to be prepared," Ethan replied.

"Right, right. We should take precautions," Grandpa Caldwell agreed.

Grandma Ford then promised to start making more baby clothes, with the help of the aunties.

Soon after, they all left with smiles, feeling relieved that everything was fine.

But Poochi didn’t want to leave—he insisted on staying and sleeping in the house, clearly missing his master and mistress.

No matter what excuse Grandpa Caldwell gave to coax him into leaving, Poochi refused and acted pitiful, lying on the floor with droopy eyes, determined to stay behind.

"Aw~aw~aw," Poochi whimpered, looking at his buddy Ethan for approval.

’I want to stay, Master.’

"Grandpa, just leave him here. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him act like this," Ethan said, shooting Poochi a menacing smile.

The dog had probably missed his intense training. With him gone for a week, no one had been around to push him hard.

Poochi shivered at Ethan’s smile but quickly forgot about it when he realized he could stay.

"Aw~aw~aw," he barked softly before hurrying upstairs.

Everyone laughed before finally leaving to get some rest.

Ethan quickly closed the door and used his skill, [Shadow Cloak], to catch Poochi and stop him from barging into their bedroom.

"Stop! Your mistress is sleeping. Don’t wake her up," Ethan scolded firmly.

Poochi let out a soft whine, clearly feeling guilty.

"Alright, I’ve brought your bed back. You can sleep there—but keep quiet, okay?"

"Aw~," Poochi barked softly, agreeing with his master.

Ethan gave him a gentle pat before tidying up, then climbed into bed, wrapped his arms around his wife, and soon fell asleep peacefully.

The next morning, the residents of the Camel Tower buildings shouted with joy as they saw the sun shining brightly for the first time in months.

The darkness that had loomed over them had finally lifted, revealing a clear blue sky.

"The disaster is finally over!" one resident cried out, tears streaming down his face.

He had longed for this moment—the days of being crushed by one natural disaster after another seemed to be over.

Everyone shared the same hope, unaware that a new disaster was quietly approaching.

The temperature then began to rise.

In just one night, it climbed by another 15 degrees, settling at -25 degrees Celsius.

Though still cold, it was now bearable, prompting residents to leave their units in search of supplies or the popular jade that could be traded at the shop.

From the top of the building, you could see many people walking and running across the ice field—most likely trying to reach the places they wanted to loot before anyone else.

Meanwhile, Elena woke up feeling refreshed. Her fatigue had disappeared, and her core was finally full again.

"Wife, good morning. Here, drink this water. How are you feeling now?" Ethan asked gently.

"Good. But why are you still here? Aren’t you supposed to train the others and the kids?"

"You’re more important. Besides, I still need to control my strength—if not, I might cause an accident."

"True. Let me freshen up—" She was about to stand when a bark came from the left side of the bed.

Poochi was there, trying to get her attention.

"Aw~aw~aw."

’Mistress, I’m here.’

Elena smiled as she watched the energetic dog bounce around with excitement.

"Eh? Handsome Poochi is visiting us! Come here." She patted the bed and gestured for him to come closer.

She then glanced at Ethan, silently asking why Poochi was inside, knowing how territorial her husband could be about their private bedroom.

Letting Poochi in was practically a miracle.

Seeing her puzzled expression, Ethan chuckled and explained the situation to her.

"So, you mean Grandpa and the others visited yesterday? Why didn’t you wake me up?"

"You were tired and sleeping so soundly, wife. I already explained everything to them, and they understood."

"Alright," she said as she gently petted Poochi’s head. "Poochi, are you hungry? Do you want your mistress to prepare food for you?"

"Aw~aw~aw"

’Yes, please, Mistress,’ Poochi responded cutely, which annoyed Ethan as he watched his wife happily entertain their dog.

"Okay, I’ll freshen up first. Stay here."

She headed to the bathroom, unaware that Poochi had quietly followed behind her, wagging his tail with excitement.

Of course, Ethan stopped him. "Where do you think you’re going? Stay here and wait."

Poochi gave him a playful glare, but Ethan ignored it, waiting patiently for his wife to finish so they could head to the dining table together.

Soon after, the trio left the room and had breakfast.

Elena prepared some cooked meat for Poochi as a reward for guarding her yesterday.

She had found out that Poochi had slept beside their bed, as if trying to protect her and the baby.

"Eat more, Poochi."

"Aw~aw~aw"

’Thank you, mistress.’

Well, Ethan exaggerated the story a little, making Poochi sound like the most loyal dog in the world.

Even though he knew Elena had grown fond of Poochi now, he still wanted to strengthen their bond even more.

"Wife, what happened to Poochi in the past?"

Elena froze. She didn’t like remembering the painful fate of those dear to them—including Poochi.

It was too tragic, and instead, she preferred talking about their past enemies.

"He..." she hesitated, unwilling to say it—that Poochi had died fighting a mutated beast, just to buy Ethan enough time to escape from the creature in Willow Village.

Seeing her unease, Ethan quickly reached for her hand and said gently, "It’s okay. Tell me everything. Don’t carry this alone—I’m here with you. And this time, I promise it won’t happen again."

"I know, husband. It’s just... our past was truly heartbreaking." She sighed and looked at Poochi, their ever-loyal dog.

"He died... before the disaster even began," she said softly. She was about to continue when a knock suddenly came from the door.

Elena raised her brows.

Why didn’t they just use [Telepathy]? Well, maybe it wasn’t something urgent.’

She sighed and motioned for her husband to open it.

"We can continue this later," he said with a smile before getting up and walking toward the door.
