Chapter 244: Sudden dizziness
"We can sell up to 20 water tanks only; beyond that, we won’t be able to accommodate more. If that works for you, we can proceed with the trade," Ethan said, offering what they could manage.
Hearing that they had spare water tanks, General Kaiser smiled in relief.
They truly needed them—most of their supplies had been buried under the ice, and digging them out took a lot of time and effort.
"Deal! That’s better than nothing. Please have the tanks ready as soon as possible. But if you happen to find more, please let me know—our main base also needs a large supply," General Kaiser said.
"Sure, I’ll let you know if we find some. As for the spare ones we currently have, they’ll be ready by tomorrow at the same location where we traded supplies," Ethan replied, then finalized the cost and arranged the meetup time.
After concluding the discussion about the water tanks, General Kaiser shifted the topic.
"By the way, why did you call us?" he asked with curiosity.
"I just wanted to ask—how are you planning to handle the dead bodies? Once the extreme heat hits, it could trigger an outbreak," Ethan said plainly.
General Kaiser was caught off guard by the sudden question.
"Right now, we’re hiring civilians to help with the cleanup, with soldiers assisting them. But we can only manage the bodies on the surface. As for those frozen beneath the ice... We’ll have to wait until the water melts and subsides."
Knowing they had already made plans, Elena then offered,
"Then, the Paradise Shop will donate supplies to those brave enough to take on the task."
She genuinely wanted to raise the urgency of the issue so more civilians would step up and help with the cleanup.
In her past life, she wasn’t sure if an epidemic had broken out in this city, since around that time, she was already at the City D Military Camp.
But whether there had been one or not, she still preferred to take precautions rather than regret it later.
"That’s good news. On behalf of the military, thank you," General Kaiser replied.
"I hope you’ll act on this as soon as possible. I’m trusting you, General," Elena added, making it clear that their donation should not be taken advantage of by greedy individuals.
"No worries—I’ll personally oversee this operation," General Kaiser assured her, then took a sip of the coffee prepared by the staff.
Soon after, they began discussing the rising temperatures.
By tomorrow, the military would issue a warning about the new disaster to ensure the public had enough time to prepare.
"I hope you all take proper precautions," General Kaiser said with concern, wanting to ensure their safety—after all, he didn’t want to see the Paradise shop close.
"Same to you, General. Don’t worry about us; we’ll survive," Ethan replied confidently.
He had promised his wife that in this lifetime, they would live a better life—together with their future children.
"If there’s nothing else, General, we’ll take our leave now," he added.
Hearing that they were about to leave, General Kaiser hesitantly asked, "Wait, do you know what happened to the mutated cat?"
The military was still doing its best to locate the creature, hoping to eliminate it before it could retaliate.
Ethan smirked; after all, it was the core of that very creature that triggered his awakening.
"To be honest, we already killed the mutated cat—we just forgot to inform you."
General Kaiser’s eyes widened in surprise, and he didn’t mind the delayed update.
What mattered most was that the threat had been dealt with.
"That’s great news. I’ll inform the other General about this. Thanks."
Afterward, the military saluted the staff before leaving the shop.
General Kaiser was eager to report the availability of the water tanks and share the news about the mutated cat’s defeat.
It was almost evening when they wrapped up the meeting.
Elena was just about to stand up properly when a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her.
Her body felt heavy and weak, like her core energy had been forcefully drained dry.
She struggled to stay upright and was about to fall, but thankfully, Ethan was right beside her and caught her just in time.
"Wife, are you okay? What’s wrong?" he asked, holding her tightly.
"I... feel dizzy. Let me sit for a bit," she replied, trying to steady herself.
Worried, Ethan gently carried her to the nearest sofa and helped her lie down.
"How about now? Still dizzy? Here, drink this well water," he said, handing her a glass.
After she took a few sips, he added, "Let’s go to Paradise and get a proper check-up. Something’s definitely not right with your body."
He was deeply concerned—not just for Elena, but also for the baby.
"Wait... I want to check something first," Elena replied, patting his arm to calm him down.
Closing her eyes, she gathered her spiritual energy and focused inward to examine her condition.
But her heart sank—the space core inside her was completely empty.
In truth, she had sensed something was off for a while now.
Even without using her abilities, her energy had been gradually depleting.
She had brushed it off, thinking maybe her body was still adjusting.
But now that it was suddenly depleted, she knew something was truly wrong.
"My space core energy... It’s empty all of a sudden," she said quietly. "Let’s go for a check-up. I’m worried about the baby."
She was indeed troubled by the mysterious draining, but her primary concern was the overall well-being of the baby growing inside her.
A deep fear settled within her— ’what if the baby had been affected by this sudden depletion?’
Suddenly, she remembered—the baby had once absorbed energy from the core they found in the vault.
Perhaps now, it had drawn directly from her own core to replenish the force that kept it safe.
Elena was engrossed in her thoughts when Ethan gently interrupted her, "Let’s enter Paradise now."
She agreed and, without delay, they entered the space and teleported straight to Paradise Hospital.
Wasting no time, Ethan contacted Aunt Liza and Dr. Paige to head to the hospital as soon as possible.
The two doctors then dropped what they were doing and arrived quickly, bringing all the necessary equipment.
"Tell me everything she did before she felt dizzy. What kind of activities were involved?" Aunt Liza asked.
Ethan carefully explained their routine that day, leaving out nothing, not even the training or the short walk around the shop.
Seeing their frantic state and the numerous tests being prepared, Elena began to wonder if all of this was truly necessary.
She tried to persuade them that it might simply be because her core was depleted, which explained her weakness, and suggested running just a simple test to check her condition.
Although Ethan believed her, he still insisted on a full examination—he needed to be sure she and the baby were safe.
Faced with her husband’s firm yet caring resolve, Elena eventually agreed, wanting to ease his worries.
After a few hours, the results were finally in: Elena was healthy, but the baby’s condition remained unclear because the ultrasound hadn’t worked when they tried to use it on her.
"She’s fine—a little rest will do her good," Aunt Liza said with relief.
If anything had happened to Elena, her father would’ve surely been overwhelmed with worry.
Then she turned to her nephew. "Take good care of your wife. Based on my experience, she might be carrying twins—or even more. She’s already five months along, but her condition feels more like she’s at eight months. I want you to prepare for the possibility that she could go into labor earlier than expected."
Ethan’s mouth fell open as he glanced between Elena and her belly, his mind spinning at the idea of twins—or more.
Seeing her husband’s shocked expression, Elena felt embarrassed. "What are you staring at? Listen to Aunt."
Snapping back to focus, Ethan asked, "Aunt, are you saying the baby could be born soon?"
"Yes, so make sure to prepare. Alright, I’m done for now. You guys can freely go, if sudden things happen again, inform me quickly, " Aunt Liza replied, then store the equipment in her [Inventory] and leave the ward together with Dr. Paige.
Once they were gone, Ethan quickly hugged his wife gently on the bed.
"Are you really okay?"
"Hmm, I think I might have a clue about why my space core is draining," she replied.
Ethan then lay down beside her, stretching out his broad arms and gently pulling her head onto them as a pillow, while his other hand rested on her belly, ready to listen.
Elena chuckled softly and continued.
"Do you remember the core we found in the vault? When I touched it, its spiritual energy surged toward my stomach and settled there. After that, a strange force formed around the baby, making it hard for me to check on the baby’s situation. I’m not exactly sure what that force is, but the baby seems to like it."
"Wife, you did tell me about that," Ethan said thoughtfully. "But what’s the connection now?
"I think that force got used up over time protecting the baby. And now that it’s weakened, it started pulling energy from my space core to keep itself going. That’s probably why my core suddenly got empty."
Just then, three warm pulses flowed through her stomach in quick succession—almost like the baby was confirming her theory.
Elena couldn’t help but gently caress her belly.
Hearing her explanation, Ethan blinked in surprise and turned to her with concern—but before he could say a word, the baby gave a sudden kick.
"The baby kicked! So naughty," he said with a soft chuckle. "Baby, are you alone in there, or do you have siblings hiding with you?
But this time, the baby didn’t respond, making Ethan chuckle softly.
He figured the little one might be sleeping, tired from the examination earlier with its mom.
