Chapter 96: A new superhuman for Ceasar.

It was a nightmare for Ceasar Rommel, and this was not because he was dreaming. He was wide awake and listening to another report of another failed attempt by the soldiers to set foot outside.

Just as soldiers had defected when he forced them to go into the mist, many were threatening to defect if they were sent out into the rain.

For this reason, there had been no updates from the lab since the explosion. Not one single piece of information had reached them. All the radios were dead silent.

He was also worried about corrosion of the bunker. The more it rained, the more dangerous it was for them down there. If it continued, they would have to escape its safety and move to the white house.

"When will this damn rain stop!" He bellowed. "I am tired of being cooped down here like some kind of animal that lives in the ground. And these idiots with me are not helpful, all they do is eat and whimper." He stood up and started to pace around like an impatient caged animal. "I managed to get my hands on only two superhumans and now I don’t know where they are. Dammit!!"

Lugard gulped a little because he was about to say what everyone that worked for Ceasar was too afraid to say. "Sir, at this point it’s only fair to assume that all those people are dead."

Lugard was afraid that Ceasar would shoot him when he was throwing a temper tantrum. The man was very unpredictable and unreasonable. There was acid rain outside, nobody would be walking freely until it stopped. Why couldn’t Ceasar exercise patience and wait? If there was one superhuman, there would be more.

In a moment of rage, Ceaser carried the wooden chair and hurled it across the room, breaking its legs.

Lugard shivered. "Here we go again." he thought. Ceasar always made bad decisions when he was throwing temper tantrums like this one.

"I lost the superhumans and the doctors. I also lost a lot of men, and I will have to begin from scratch when the cursed rain stops." He bitterly complained.

Lugard fiddled with the ring resting on his middle finger. "Sir, the hunt for Carson Warnock did not stop, it only paused because of the acid rain but the moment it ceases the search will begin once again. We still know of one superhuman at least." He tried to console the man.

"Even if we do find him, where will I get a dedicated doctor that is willing to experiment on pure humans in such times? Everyone is hiding because they are so afraid." Ceaser let out a disgruntled sound.

Being that he knew of his boss’ interest’s Lugard was already far head in researching about such kind of doctors. "Sir there is a Doctor Lexi Arvin..."

"The mad doctor? You want me to put a mad scientist at the center of this project? That lunatic that is always raving about aliens. His medical license was pulled because he lost his mind." Ceaser waved dismissively.

Lugard took two steps towards Ceaser and said in a low voice as if he was sharing a conspiracy theory. "That is what people think but aren’t these superhumans alien like? Something did happen to them inside that mist that altered their genes. They are not like the rest of us anymore. Dr Levi Arvin will be ecstatic to work on such a project." He tried to make Ceaser see reason.

This kind of work was not for sane doctors that took their oath not to do harm seriously. A mad man like Ceasar could only work with a mad scientist.

Silence hovered in the room with Ceaser pondering on what Lugard had just said. Even if he did not want Dr. Levi what other options did he have? As crazy as the man was, he was the only one that could actually undertake such a project. He would care about it more than anyone. Heck, Ceaser figured the man doctor would be more obsessed with superhumans than he was.

Maybe Lugard was on to something after all. Ceaser made his mind up. "We do not know where he is or if he is alive. Even if I agree to use him...."

There was static and a voice came from the radio. "There is someone out here. I repeat there is someone walking in the acid rain..." A soldier shouted.

Ceasar and Lugard exchanged a shocked glance and started running. They came up through and exist inside the white house and Lugard barked for soldiers to make way as the president approached the window.

The two men plastered their faces against the window and their eyes widened when they saw a moving human figure in the acid rain.

"Am I hallucinating now?" Ceasar asked. He rubbed his tired eyes that were weighed down by lack of sleep. "Light them up."

Every light in the building and in the hands of every soldier or civilian that heard the order settled in one spot. Indeed, their eyes did not deceive them. Truly, there was someone outside and they had not turned into bones. It looked like the rain was falling everywhere except for her body and yet she had no umbrella or special covering of any kind that they could see.

"I_I can see her too." Lugard confessed, with his sharp eyesight he could see that it was a woman.

Gasps swept through the people in the white house. Fear engulfed some because they were witnessing a miracle or something more terrifying.

"Demon, she is a demon." A woman made the sign of the cross.

A child cried and the sound of guns coaching was heard.

"Don’t shoot." Lugard said into the walkie-talkie.

"Where have I seen her before?" Ceaser’s narrowed his eyes.

"How is she controlling the rain?" Lugard mumbled.

Ceaser’s mind snapped when Lugard’s mumble skirted past his ear. Controlling the rain!!! The woman was controlling the rain. He let out a celebratory laugh because he figured out that she had come because of the invitation he had sent out. He had invited superhumans to serve the country and someone had heeded to the call.

This one could control water!! It meant they could move around in the acid rain as long as they had her. He rubbed his hands excitedly. "Let us give the human umbrella a warm welcome." He moved towards the door.

He would be friendly until he gathered many more to fulfill his purpose.

The woman stepped into the house, and she was asked to change her clothes first. Then, she was met by Ceasar’s secret service agents that asked for her details.

"My name is Janet Kailani, a superhuman and I am here to see President Ceaser Rommel." She announced.

"So that is how I know her?" Ceaser spoke as he approached the lobby which had survived destruction.

Lugard leaned in closer. "She is the one that drowned on camera in the Liora Ocean tsunami. Congratulations sir, you have got yourself another guinea pig for the experiment." A small smile tugged on his lips.

"And many more are coming." Ceaser said before grinning widely at Janet and embracing her. "Welcome, your country appreciates your service."
