Chapter 94: Who was dominating.
Chapter 94: Who was dominating.
The thought made Moon realize that she had made a mistake. Hades had clearly been walking in this life. Why did she give him up and marry Cassius?
But he only started walking after the marriages were completed so she did not have a chance to switch back. Even though he was able to walk, he had gone bankrupt so, it was not like Sunshine won the gold prize.
"Moon, you bitch!" Pastor Salem shouted.
Moon was lost in her thoughts, and she did not hear him. She was still going over the decision-making process which had led her to where she was now.
If she had not rushed, she would have given Cassius to Sunshine and let her suffer with him. She should have lived like one of his concubines and waited for the fifth year and killed her off. Wasn’t the result the same anyway?
"Dammit!" She muttered.
Pastor Salem threw down a wine bottle and Moon jumped. How could she forget about this psycho?
He snapped his fingers at her as though she was his dog. "How dare you ignore me when I am talking and how dare you act disobedient? Have you forgotten so quickly to what happened to your father? If you don’t watch how you are behaving, your mother’s skin will melt under that beautiful deadly rain." Pastor Salem’s words were not a threat but more like a warning.
He was aware that Moon’s confidence was growing, and he had to keep her in check that was why he had taken her mother hostage permanently.
She was living in the same quarters as the rest of his mistresses. Women whose only reason for existence now was to please him sexually or they starved. If Moon was not valuable, he would have added her to that list.
Moon looked back at him with cold eyes and an even colder expression. "I would not blackmail and threaten me if I were you. My knowledge can help you, but it can also destroy. I came to you on my own and offered my services. We made a deal, and it was that we would be equal partners, but you turned around and turned me into one your little minions that you can beat and order around as you please.
Your prayer should be that I do not give up on my mother because if I decide to abandon her, my help will dry up very fast. It is an apocalypse anyway, if people can sell their children to survive, children can also leave behind their parents in order to survive. Stop thinking like a child and act like a real man. I cannot solve every problem; I can only tell you what is coming. If you cannot fix it, the problem is yours, not mine." She turned and walked out of the room, slamming the door really hard.
"Get back here." Pastor Salem screamed.
He screamed five more times, but Moon did not return. Pastor Salem punched the table and winced.
"She is right." Zadok said. "If you....we depend on her for everything then we will be screwed if she dies, escapes or falls sick to a point where she cannot share information anymore."
Pastor Salem blinked.
Zadok was tense but he continued. "We need to do more thinking on our own. You need to prove that even without her, you can be a leader and keep the people on the base safe. If you cannot do that, I am afraid that we will soon have a revolution on our hands. You are losing the hearts of the believer’s pastor. Get out of Moon’s shadow before it’s too late."
Zadok was worried that Moon was too ambitious and too secretive. The pastor thought he was dominating because he could threaten Moon and smack her around sometimes. But it seemed to Zadok like Moon was dominating with her knowledge. She was leading the pastor around by the nose while establishing her own control slowly.
A base could not have two commanders. Eventually one had to fall for the other to reign.
Pastor Salem leaned back in the chair and lit a cigar as he pondered on Zadok’s words. If anyone had said them, he would be angry but coming from Zadok whom he trusted with his life, they were worth pondering on.
Meanwhile, Moon run into a young woman that was delivering new wine to the pastor. They exchanged smiles and the young woman bowed to Moon as if she was confirming something.
Moon walked away with a secret smile on her lips.

Denise Moore was having a grand time at the base meanwhile, unaffected by Moon and Pastor Salem’s feud. She had enough to eat and drink, and she was safe. Cassius Quinn was the best thing to happen to her since she moved to the base. She was already sleeping with him and considering himself his girlfriend.
Cassius had assured her that he was not in love with Moon and she had married him for money. He had a plan to leave this place after the acid rain and move to a safer place. He had no plans of taking Moon with them.
Of course, she had no plans of sharing this with her friend.
The two had just finished their third session of loving for the day and they were relaxing in the bed. She wanted to sleep when he shook her and asked. "What has Moon told you about the bracelet that she is very protective of?"
Denise yawned. "Nothing much." She stretched her arms and legs because her body was exhausted. Cassius was insatiable. "She spent a whole lot of money to buy it from Sunshine. She said it was some kind of good luck charm, but she would not go into details about what kind of luck it was. Honestly it just looks like an old piece of junk to me. If it was lucky, that fraud of a pastor would not be knocking her around and her father would not be dead." She yawned again and closed her eyes.
Cassius did not ask her any further questions. Instead, he got out of bed and moved to the window, lighting a cigarette. As he took a long puff, he watched the acid rain falling down and searing the soil. Wherever it touched, some steam rose as if something was being cooked.
He thought about the answer Denise had given him, and it brought a frown to his face. She had not shared anything new. He already knew about Moon’s claims on the bracelet being a lucky charm.
He had also eavesdropped on some of the conversations she had with her parents and knew that Moon had been reborn. The bracelet was something Sunshine had given to him in Moon’s last life. From what he heard, he had dominated in the apocalypse, created a base and even had his own harem.
Sunshine had been his fiancé, and she had protected him in the apocalypse without knowing his secret identity. After overhearing bits of their conversations, he had been piecing things together slowly.
Once he determined that Moon was looking to use him, he decided to continue playing the fool. But he wanted that bracelet.
Cassius blew smoke out of his mouth and wondered how he would convince Denise to steal the bracelet. If it was as powerful as Moon claimed, it had to be in his hands.
Not just the bracelet but Sunshine too. He would find her and win her over again. She was his woman, not his stepmother!
He would put everything back in its rightful place.
