Apocalypse: I’m the Landlady of the Refuge
Chapter 130: Do you believe in God?

Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Do you believe in God?

Walking on the road, Ji Wanwan always felt a barely discernible gaze upon her.

Following the feeling, she looked over and fixed her eyes on Deng Jing, who, however, moved her gaze away nonchalantly, looking somewhere else.

Ji Wanwan curled the corners of her mouth downward and turned back to continue looking at the road ahead, mumbling in her heart, "It seems this little girl has quite a few complaints about me."

Walking behind, Deng Jing watched Ji Wanwan’s back with a complex expression in her eyes.

Because of her earlier remarks, Liu Jian had offended Xu Siming and Ji Wanwan. Now, seeing how formidable Xu Siming was, Liu Jian bore some resentment toward her and even intentionally kept his distance from her.

Knowing that Liu Jian was the team leader who usually listened to her every command, if she lost this obedient umbrella of protection, her days in the base might not be as comfortable as they were now.

Unable to vent her anger on Liu Jian, she transferred this fury to Ji Wanwan, finding her more and more disagreeable by the moment.

Especially seeing someone like Xu Siming standing next to Ji Wanwan made Deng Jing feel increasingly resentful, wondering why she wasn’t blessed with such good fortune!

With this thought, Deng Jing suddenly got an idea, took a bottle of water from her bag, and handed it to Xu Siming with a warm and radiant smile, "You’ve worked hard fighting zombies for us along the way, have some water to drink."

This unexpected act of kindness left everyone who was happily bragging stunned.

Liu Jian watched Deng Jing in disbelief, his complexion turning somewhat ugly.

The rest of the group, however, wore expressions of watching a drama unfold, making Xu Siming freeze for a moment.

After a brief contemplation, he raised his hand to accept the water, "Thanks!"

Hearing the sound, Ji Wanwan turned her head back to see Xu Siming accepting the water, looking quite surprised.

Deng Jing was visibly delighted, her happiness obvious, "No problem~"

But the next second, Xu Siming walked past everyone, went to Ji Wanwan’s side, opened the water, and offered it to her, "You must be thirsty after walking for half the day, would you like to drink some?"

Hearing subdued laughter coming from the team, Ji Wanwan glanced at Deng Jing with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, took the water, and offered a faint smile, "Thanks, senior."

Xu Siming laughed heartily, "Not at all~"

Their somewhat pathetic tone made everyone chuckle, teasingly egging them on.

Xu Siming was enjoying this moment, smiling brighter than the flowers.

In front of so many people, Ji Wanwan didn’t refute anything but just shook her head with a smile, giving Xu Siming an annoyed look.

With the atmosphere lightened, everyone started to joke and laugh again.

In stark contrast, Deng Jing’s face instantly turned the color of a liver from a fit of angry embarrassment.

Throughout the rest of the journey, although Liu Jian still chatted up Xu Siming non-stop, his mood was noticeably less elevated than before.

After walking for about an hour and a half, the group finally arrived at Redemption Shelter.

The refuge was established on the mountainside, surrounded by fences equipped with electrified netting for protection.

Peering through the fence, Ji Wanwan quickly surveyed the interior structure of the refuge.

This place appeared to have been a farm before the apocalypse, with a relatively intact ecological environment including farmland, fish ponds, and a breeding community. From her current vantage point, Ji Wanwan could even see a dense orchard beyond.

Not bad at all, with the essentials for survival, it was like a natural sanctuary after the apocalypse had erupted. No wonder it had developed into the largest refuge in Jiang City.

From the perspective of an ordinary person, such a feng shui treasure is hard not to covet. It must have been fiercely contested when the apocalypse first broke out.

Looking at it this way, the leader of this refuge seems to be quite capable.

As for whether the refuge’s stance is good or bad, and whether the leader is benevolent or malevolent, Ji Wanwan decided to restrain her sharpness and silently observe for a while before deciding.

After entering the refuge and getting settled, the sky had already darkened.

Unlike a distant base, most people here lived together in simple clay houses or temporary tents.

Because Ji Wanwan and Xu Siming were newcomers, and Xu Siming had demonstrated strong abilities, Redemption Shelter made an exception and allowed Ji Wanwan and Xu Siming to stay in a clay house without others.

After making the bed, Ji Wanwan had an idea and, with a try-and-see attitude, contacted Zhou Kai with the walkie-talkie. The walkie-talkie in the base had been enhanced by Ji Wanwan using points, and its range of communication had reached 50 kilometers, covering almost half of Jiang City.

After a brief crackling sound, the other end of the walkie-talkie responded.

Ji Wanwan’s face lit up with joy. She briefly explained her situation and inquired about Zhou Kai’s.

Zhou Kai didn’t go into detail, saying only that he was fine and telling Ji Wanwan not to worry, but she keenly heard some shouting in the background.

Guessing that Zhou Kai didn’t want to say much, and that his environment wasn’t very safe, Ji Wanwan cautioned him a couple of times and then put down the walkie-talkie.

Just as Ji Wanwan was about to take out some food from her space, Zhan Yu and Liu Jian arrived together.

Seeing the compressed biscuits, instant noodles, jerky, and mineral water in their hands, she hesitated and then abandoned the idea of getting food.

Liu Jian put the food on the table, "The base has many people and few resources, sorry for having you make do with these.

Ji Wanwan smiled gratefully, "After the apocalypse, instant noodles and jerky are scarce. Being able to share these is already very good, thank you."

"Don’t mention it." Liu Jian eagerly looked at Xu Siming, clearly not intending to leave just after setting down the supplies.

Xu Siming silently looked at Ji Wanwan who, realizing the situation, gave a wry smile and gestured to the only stool in the room: "You’ve come all this way to deliver supplies; you must be tired, right? The room is really simple, please find a spot to sit and rest."

Liu Jian had been waiting for this invitation and immediately settled on the stool with a smile, starting to ask Xu Siming all sorts of questions eagerly.

Zhan Yu looked helpless, but not the slightest bit impatient.

He gave Ji Wanwan an embarrassed smile, "The conditions in the refuge are not great, but at least there is food and drink, and safety is guaranteed. If you’re willing to stay, I can introduce you to the shelter leader."

"Shelter leader?" Ji Wanwan was amused by the title.

Zhan Yu also smiled, "Before, the shelter leader was the head of the local police station. People got used to calling him that, so we all follow suit and call him the shelter leader."

Ji Wanwan nodded slightly, respecting others’ habits, "That’s fine."

While they were talking, a flickering flame and some commotion came from outside the window.

The chatting inside the room ceased abruptly, and Ji Wanwan and Xu Siming hesitantly looked towards the window, whereas Zhan Yu and Liu Jian appeared unsurprised.

That expression made Ji Wanwan somewhat curious.

She stood up and walked to the window. Seeing the sudden bonfire outside and the crowd that surged towards it, she narrowed her eyes, "Brother Zhan, what’s happening out there?"

Zhan Yu walked next to Ji Wanwan, looking at the bonfire outside with a complicated expression and let out a snort of laughter, "Miss Ji, do you believe there is a God in this world?"
