Chapter 358: Make dumplings
Chapter 358: Make dumplings
Winter was perfect for dumplings, so when Lin Murong suggested making them, Su Yinhe agreed without a second thought.
Dumplings were great, she loved to eat them.
Lin Murong loved them too.
Everyone loved them.
"You like them too, right?" Su Yinhe felt she should be a bit more meticulous and asked Chi Yan.
Chi Yan looked at her and nodded.
"Then that’s settled. Let’s make dumplings." Su Yinhe was somewhat excited about organizing the activity.
It was quite nice.
She always felt that making dumplings had a sort of New Year’s atmosphere to it.
Although they said they were going to make dumplings, when it came time to start, the three people plus a robot were looking at each other, clueless.
Good lord, not one of them had made dumplings before.
"Maybe... we should start with the filling?" Lin Murong tentatively suggested.
"That’s not right. We should make the dumpling wrappers first." Su Yinhe had a different opinion.
"Okay, but... how do we make dumpling wrappers?" Lin Murong had only ever eaten ready-made dumplings.
"Hmm... start with the dough... and the step before that... start with the flour." Su Yinhe was rather clever, recalling the dumpling-making steps one by one.
"Let’s get started."
Flour plus water, knead the dough.
At this point, they either added too little water or too much.
Lin Murong kneaded the dough bigger and bigger...
In the end, Chi Yan couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped in, finally getting the dough into shape.
Then they rolled out the wrappers.
Once the dumpling wrappers were made, Lin Murong and Su Yinhe disagreed about the fillings.
"I think it’s better without carrots."
"I think it tastes better with carrots."
Neither would budge.
Finally, they decided to prepare several different kinds of fillings.
Kids make choices; adults, of course, want everything.
The consequence of wanting everything was...
Su Yinhe stared at the dozen or so bowls of fillings in front of her, lost in thought.
She looked at the fillings, then at the dumpling wrappers.
She had thought she made a lot of wrappers, but there was even more filling.
"Should we make some more dumpling wrappers?" Su Yinhe wondered.
Lin Murong silently looked towards Chi Yan.
Chi Yan: "..."
Sometimes life leaves you feeling helpless.
Although he was speechless, Chi Yan resignedly made some more dumpling wrappers.
Okay, now they had both wrappers and fillings, it was time to make dumplings.
But when it actually came to wrapping the dumplings, there was a bit of an unexpected twist.
"Is that what you call a dumpling?" Su Yinhe looked at the "dumpling" Lin Murong had just wrapped, deep in thought.
Could this oddly shaped thing even be called a dumpling?
Who taught him to wrap dumplings like that?
"Yeah? Isn’t it big and pretty?" Lin Murong was somewhat proud of himself.
Su Yinhe: "..."
"Right, right, right, it’s big. But if it’s too big... will it even cook through?" When all the other dumplings were done, would this misshapen and especially big dumpling still be raw? Was Lin Murong planning to eat it uncooked?
"No problem, I’ll cook it separately." Lin Murong was quite fond of his dumpling; he liked them big, big dumplings were delicious.
Su Yinhe: "..."
It was hard to comment; she wished him success.
All three of them were wrapping dumplings. Chi Yan’s were the most standard, every dumpling exactly the same; Su Yinhe’s were by the book. As for Lin Murong...
It could only be said that each of his was very unique, not one looked like the others.
"You guys don’t understand. They’re different so we can tell them apart later. You eat the ones you’ve wrapped, and I’ll eat mine."
However, when the dumplings were cooked, Lin Murong ended up eating the dumplings wrapped by Su Yinhe and Chi Yan.
Because the ones he made hadn’t been sealed properly, they fell apart while boiling.
Including that big, unusually shaped dumpling he made.
Lin Murong wailed as he ate.
Because there were plenty of fillings and dumpling wrappers, they ended up making a lot of dumplings.
So many, in fact, that even the voracious Lin Murong among them couldn’t finish them all.
Not all of the dumplings were cooked; only a portion was boiled, with the rest being stored away by Su Yinhe for later enjoyment whenever they wanted.
The dumpling wrappers were rolled out nicely, and the fillings were well-seasoned, which made them delicious to eat.
Su Yinhe really liked them.
She ate several in succession.
When eating dumplings, she preferred dipping them in peanut sauce.
Dumplings dipped in peanut sauce are super fragrant.
There was also chili sauce for dipping.
She liked both of these a lot.
Chi Yan also liked peanut sauce.
The two of them enjoyed their dumplings dipped in peanut sauce quite a bit.
Murong, on the other hand, was so engrossed in eating that he would pop one after another into his mouth, forgetting to dip them in sauce.
However, as he kept eating and his stomach filled up, he slowed down.
It was only after he slowed down and saw them dipping their dumplings in sauce that he realized dumplings were meant to be dipped.
Dumplings were tasty on their own, but dipping them brought out a different flavor altogether.
Murong then started dipping his dumplings in sauce.
He first tried the peanut and chili sauces.
It was heavenly.
"Damn, this is even better than eating them plain," Murong exclaimed as he grabbed a few more dumplings, dipped them in chili sauce, and stuffed them in his mouth.
"Tasty," Murong concluded after trying both sauces. But he found the chili sauce even more to his liking.
He kept dipping and eating several with chili sauce.
"That’s right," Su Yinhe said with pride.
Although she didn’t know why she felt proud.
It was strange, perhaps she caught it from Murong.
"Tasty," Murong devoured a plate of dumplings with chili sauce.
After finishing, it was like he had opened the gates to a whole new world.
He had tried peanut sauce, he had tried chili sauce.
Next, it was time to try other sauces.
Murong grabbed some vinegar.
Dumplings and vinegar go hand in hand – vinegar is their soulmate.
Everything else is a mistress or fling.
With vinegar on his plate, Murong polished off another whole serving of dumplings.
"So good, dipping in vinegar is better than dipping in chili sauce. Galaxy, you should try it," he suggested.
Su Yinhe looked at the dark vinegar, gave it a try.
It was alright, but not her favorite.
She didn’t love vinegar.
Chili sauce was still the best to her taste.
She was a staunch supporter of chili sauce.
Chili sauce was the eternal king, and she loved chili sauce.
After trying chili sauce, Murong was still not completely satisfied.
He continued to explore other sauces.
With so many plates of dumplings left, he could try a different sauce with each one, slowly unlocking several doors to new culinary worlds.
He ate so much without getting full, still with room to try more, while Su Yinhe and Chi Yan had their fill and just sat by, watching him experiment leisurely.
Murong really had a talent, finding every conceivable sauce and some inconceivable ones too.
It was the first time Su Yinhe realized that there were so many types of sauces in the world.
Way too many sauces.
Especially when Murong laid them all out one by one, they seemed even more numerous.
So many that Su Yinhe felt a bit intimidated.
"Why are you getting so many?" she asked.
"Just trying different ones; who knows, there might be a miraculous discovery," Murong sincerely replied.
Su Yinhe: "..."
Alright, she was at a loss for words.
