Chapter 926: Chapter 429: The Return of Little Genius

Lin Yi broke out in a cold sweat upon hearing this, his heart thumping loudly.

"Who taught you to form words like that?!"

"Friend, ’Friendship,’ not ’Bomb Blast,’ seriously..."

Li Huiyuan’s eyes, however, lit up brilliantly—so bright that Lin Yi felt a little unnerved.

Forming words?

Humph!

Who said this ’cannon fodder’ idea was bad? It’s fantastic!

Lin Yi quickly stopped her, saying, "So, are you planning to come with me, or stay in the classroom and read books?"

Li Huiyuan replied, "Do I even need to think about it? Of course, I’m coming with you! Reading is boring, but if we go, there might even be..."

"Hmm?"

"Uh, nothing, nothing at all..." Li Huiyuan pursed her lips guiltily and exhaled, glancing around nervously.

Lin Yi chuckled lightly, his gaze shifting away from Li Huiyuan and toward the staircase. But as his eyes glanced toward the Green Forest Belt outside the corridor, he furrowed his brows involuntarily.

He couldn’t explain why, but a vague sense of unease gripped his heart, as though something deep within the Green Forest Belt was slowly approaching.

He focused intently on the belt, trying to discern something within, but despite his observations and attempts to perceive, his perception was quickly hindered by the thin mist saturating the forest—a resistance akin to trudging through a swamp, unbearably difficult.

He withdrew his gaze.

"What’s wrong?" Li Huiyuan asked with concern, her own eyes tracing the direction Lin Yi had been looking. "Is there something wrong with the sculptures inside?"

Lin Yi shook his head slightly. "I don’t know... but something feels off. I have a bad premonition."

"Maybe it’s because your perception has become sharper now, amplifying the effects of the grey mist..." Li Huiyuan tried to reassure him.

Though Lin Yi knew deep down this wasn’t the case, he didn’t refute her explanation. "I hope so... Let’s go."

"Mm." Li Huiyuan obediently followed him.

...

Not long after Lin Yi stepped into the staircase, a clean, tidy figure slowly emerged from the edge of the Green Forest Belt and stepped under the sun.

If Lin Yi were here, he would undoubtedly be shocked beyond belief at the sight of this individual—because it was none other than Little Genius, who had died on May 6 and embarked on the Return to Sea Tide journey on May 7—now inexplicably back on campus!

But what was it now? Little Genius as a pseudo-human, or something else entirely?

Even more eerie, as "Little Genius" appeared under the sun, tiny, pure-white powder particles visibly evaporated from its body. But instead of exhibiting the rigid petrification typical of nocturnal species, it began to resemble an ordinary person, incrementally making its way toward the Teaching Building.

Just as "Little Genius" approached Teaching Building B, the door to the Teacher’s Office swung open. Mountain Man stepped out, coincidentally facing Little Genius head-on.

Mountain Man froze momentarily. In the next instant, as if realizing something, his expression shifted subtly, and he immediately turned to look at the plaque beside the door.

"B Group, Class 2."

Without hesitation, he pulled the door wide open, then slammed it shut before "Little Genius" could react.

After doing this, Mountain Man leaned back against the door, his face full of disbelief, muttering under his breath, "How could this be? How could this...?"

He stared at the door handle intently, but the handle didn’t move.

"Little Genius" didn’t seem to pursue him or attempt to enter the classroom.

...

X023, May 10, 9:32 AM, Teacher’s Office, "B Group, Class 2," at the door.

"Knock... knock... knock..."

"Little Genius" knocked on the Teacher’s Office door, one slow, stiff knock after another, its movements mechanical, almost puppet-like.

"Who’s there?" came the voice of Class Teacher-040 from behind the door.

"Little Genius" didn’t respond, merely continuing to knock on the door.

"Who...?"

"Knock... knock... knock..."

As the two reached an impasse, another figure came down the hallway from the direction of "B Group, Class 3."

This time, the approaching person was Wei Shan.

Wei Shan’s brow was furrowed tightly, his hands gesturing obscure motions as he walked, his eyes unfocused as though staring at some impossibly complex problem suspended in the void.

Wei Shan seemed unaware of "Little Genius," just as "Little Genius" focused solely on knocking at the door of the Teacher’s Office.

The two collided heavily as they brushed past each other.

"Little Genius," thrown off balance, stumbled against the wall but seemed fixated only on the office door. After regaining its balance, it resumed knocking on the door incessantly.

Though Wei Shan didn’t lose his stride, his concentration was momentarily broken. He shook his head, trying to refocus, but the rhythmic "knock, knock, knock" echoed beside his ears like the pounding of a wooden fish drum, leaving his thoughts agitated.

Floating amidst the eerie demeanor of "Little Genius," Wei Shan’s irritation boiled over. He spun around furiously, glaring at "Little Genius," and snarled, "Oi~!"

"Little Genius" remained indifferent, mechanically hammering away at the office door, each knock growing stronger than the last.

Realizing his words were ignored, Wei Shan, already known for his fiery temper, burned with rage. He grabbed "Little Genius" by the shoulder forcefully, but as soon as his hand touched it, his brows furrowed deeply.

"Just as I thought!"

Exerting sudden force, Wei Shan twisted "Little Genius’s" shoulder, which gave a rubbery "squeak, squeak" sound and distorted out of shape.

As the shoulder could no longer be twisted further, "Little Genius’s" body cracked like ice struck by a heavy blow, fine fractures spider-webbing outward.
