Chapter 921: Chapter 426: The Bizarre Atmosphere of the Shura Field_2
"Hey, Teacher, you didn’t paint your middle fingernail?" Lin Yi blurted out, speaking softly.
Class Teacher-040 sneered, "If you don’t want your eyes, feel free to donate them. None of my fingers have nail polish."
"Well, I didn’t say anything wrong, did I? Seriously, Teacher, what’s the rush?" Lin Yi muttered under his breath, ignoring Class Teacher-040’s grinding teeth, and instead shifted his attention to Mountain Man’s attendance records, studying them with a serious demeanor.
Class Teacher-040 glared at Lin Yi with some annoyance but realized this guy wasn’t pretending—he was seriously focused.
Lin Yi stared at Mountain Man’s attendance records, trying to discern clues about Mountain Man’s traces of activity.
But he failed.
At least, from the surface, he failed.
Mountain Man checked in on the night of May 8th when he transferred into the school. The record for that night existed. Beyond that, his daily attendance records were normal—everything looked fine.
"This is really strange..." Lin Yi mumbled, turning to Class Teacher-040, "He only has check-in records. How do you know he didn’t return to the dormitory?"
Class Teacher-040 parted her red lips slightly: "Want to know?"
Lin Yi paused for a moment.
"Uh... is it some sort of unspeakable secret?"
Class Teacher-040 chuckled with a look of teasing in her eyes: "They’re all unspeakable secrets."
Wait a second... isn’t this going off-track? Lin Yi became aware of the shift, glancing somewhat nervously at the couch area.
Li Huiyuan’s gaze was like a blade, seemingly slicing Lin Yi to pieces. Her cheeks puffed up slightly, as though scheming some not-so-good, malicious idea.
Lin Yi’s heart skipped a beat. His sharp senses could even perceive the grinding sounds of Li Huiyuan’s teeth—"crack, crack."
Lin Yi instinctively shrank his neck, and sweat broke out on his palm.
The vibe here... what the hell is this? I’m single! Damn it, why does it feel like I’ve wandered into some weird Shura Field...?!
Critical issue: he didn’t even know why. If Li Huiyuan weren’t here, he could easily have retorted fiercely.
After all, others might not know, but Lin Yi was well aware—Class Teacher-040 was someone who’d "shudder all over" if you so much as brushed against her back and seemed to have sensitive skin all over, as long as things didn’t escalate into a fight.
This provocation now... she was betting on the fact that Lin Yi cared about Li Huiyuan’s feelings.
But here’s the problem—wait, why do I care about Li Huiyuan’s feelings? Lin Yi’s mind genuinely felt a little muddled.
Could this be... the power of friendship?
Great, because of this, the Teacher was able to hold him hostage and manipulate him!
Lin Yi kept staring at the attendance records, but his thoughts were spinning rapidly in his head. As he wrestled internally, a sudden flash of insight occurred to him. He muttered, "Teacher... secrets are mutual. I’ve seen enough."
He shut the folder.
Class Teacher-040 momentarily froze, not even managing to process what was happening as Lin Yi, turning swiftly, brushed past her at lightning speed.
At the same time, he uttered a line that could be considered a classic opener: "Teacher, you wouldn’t want anyone to know about last night’s events either, would you..."
"You...!" Class Teacher-040 shot Lin Yi a fierce glare.
Lin Yi put back the folder and looked at her, waiting expectantly for her response.
Class Teacher-040 snorted coldly and explained, "Enough joking around. Anyone who actually returns to the dormitory to sleep would, logically speaking, take a shower and go to bed afterward. And when they shower, part of the campus contamination would be washed off."
"But Yuan Lijian hasn’t done that. The contamination surrounding him is increasing day by day."
Lin Yi hesitated, "Just because of that? What if he goes back but... doesn’t shower?"
"That’s not taken into consideration," Class Teacher-040 replied. "In the campus area, low-probability events actually happen frequently on a higher scale. So when you suspect something, especially something heading in a deteriorating direction, you must always assume the worst-case scenario."
Lin Yi’s expression became serious, yet he felt an odd sense of enlightenment.
Maybe the steps he’d been taking to confirm certain hypotheses were actually unnecessary, as his guesses often turned out correct anyway.
"Maybe in some critical moments, I can treat my hypothesis as the conclusion directly?" Lin Yi mused internally.
"Is there anything else?" Class Teacher-040 asked, "You didn’t just come here for his attendance record, did you?"
Lin Yi replied, "While I’m at it, I wanted to double-check the existence of that ’nonexistent person.’"
"’Nonexistent person’?" Class Teacher-040 paused in confusion, then quickly caught on, "You mean... the one who rushed out initially?"
Lin Yi nodded. "That’s the one. Do you have any leads on him?"
"None," Class Teacher-040 sighed lightly. "No leads. It disappeared once it left. Unless it reappears, we’re looking for a needle in a haystack. And the key issue remains: what exactly is it?"
Lin Yi’s eyes flashed. Class Teacher-040 must have done some reviewing after leaving the classroom, he concluded.
So Lin Yi asked, "You think it’s not human either?"
Class Teacher-040 admitted frankly, "Because it walked directly into the sunlight, I subconsciously overlooked certain inconsistencies and didn’t react in time."
"But the more I think about it, the stranger it feels. Now, I’m almost certain it’s not human. Oddly enough, it doesn’t carry the scent that humans do. It’s not as pure as a nocturnal species, nor is it a pseudo-human either..."
Lin Yi nodded subtly. Just the fact it could "appear in sunlight" ruled out many possibilities.
But now that he thought about it, maybe the problem was precisely tied to that point.
An entity that combined the conflicting traits of a "non-human unit unable to initiate its Door Attribute" with the exclusively human trait of "being able to appear under sunlight" was, in itself, a contradiction.
It didn’t match any known enigmatic entity within Lin Yi’s understanding.
"It’s a shame there’s no surveillance in the classroom." Lin Yi sighed softly.
"Surveillance?" Class Teacher-040 scoffed, "Are you joking? If surveillance captures anything it shouldn’t, the consequences would be unimaginable."
"Things surveillance shouldn’t capture? What are you all discussing that’s so wild, huh? Is it something dirty and polluted?!" Over on the couch, Li Huiyuan, who had been secretly eavesdropping this whole time, seemed to catch on to some sensitive terms and immediately widened her eyes, sitting slightly forward.
Lin Yi internally cursed—Li Huiyuan really was like a cat, pricking up her ears to spy on them!
Class Teacher-040 smirked as she looked at Li Huiyuan. At this moment, the mature, feminine allure washed over the sweet, bubbly girl like a tidal wave, visibly changing Li Huiyuan’s expression.
"Student, don’t let your imagination run wild. What we’re discussing are official matters. If you’re curious, you could join the conversation; after all, you’re a Sports Student."
Li Huiyuan snorted and turned her head away, crossing her arms over her chest without saying another word.
Class Teacher-040 didn’t pursue the matter but focused back on Lin Yi, continuing, "You should understand that information like this, once contained, essentially becomes a ’source of contamination.’ If spread, people without professional training would almost certainly get consumed by that contamination."
"And once contamination breaks out within human groups, the consequences would be beyond repair."
Lin Yi instinctively touched the pocket of his school pants. After changing into his uniform, he had moved the sticky note book from his backpack to his pocket.
He needed to ensure the sticky note book didn’t leave his side.
Class Teacher-040’s warning about surveillance made perfect sense. The note book was safest only in his hands. If it got out, the level of threat would escalate terribly—especially with the information Lin Yi had been recording in it. Each new addition seemed to expand its destructive power.
What might have originally been black powder had become a hand grenade; and now, it was a missile...
"I really should destroy it..." Lin Yi made a quiet resolve in his heart.
