Chapter 919: Chapter 425: Mountain Man and Wei Liang_2
"This girl..." Lin Yi’s lips twitched hard, "Are you really this absorbed?"
He quietly stood up, planning to sneak out from between Wei Liang and Li Huiyuan. But as soon as he moved, Li Huiyuan reacted like a startled bird, hastily closing her book and leaning back against her chair, her little head seemingly steaming...
"Uh... I didn’t mean to disturb you, carry on. I’ll be back in a bit," Lin Yi said.
Li Huiyuan immediately narrowed her eyes in suspicion: "Where are you going?"
Lin Yi pointed at the clothes beside his hand, the ones Class Teacher-040 had temporarily given him to wear earlier: "I’m returning these to the teacher. Also, I wanted to take a look around the Teaching Building."
"You’re exploring the Teaching Building again? Wait, are you planning to meet that woman?!" Li Huiyuan put her hands on her hips, furrowing her brow deeply, her displeasure evident.
"I’m just handling serious business..." Lin Yi muttered weakly.
"What kind of ’serious business’ would need ’handling’?" Li Huiyuan snapped angrily. "No way, I’m going with you! Let’s say it’s... let’s say it’s to help Boss keep an eye on you!"
Freshly freed from an H-manga’s grip, Li Huiyuan, slightly influenced by its plot, couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something fishy between Lin Yi and Class Teacher-040. Worried she wouldn’t be able to intimidate Lin Yi, she had no choice but to name-drop the Boss as a shield.
"Boss told you to watch me?" Hearing the mention of Boss, Lin Yi’s heart wavered slightly.
Li Huiyuan narrowed her eyes, clenching her fists so tightly her teeth made a "gritting" sound.
Damn, how could Boss’s name be this effective? I’m furious, so furious I could burst!
Damned Lin Yi, if you land in my hands during P.E., I’ll break you into pieces and watch you put yourself back together bit by bit!
"If you’re insisting on going with me... fine, let’s go together," Lin Yi said reluctantly, somehow feeling inexplicably guilty. But then he reassured himself, reflecting on his gentlemanly, aboveboard character, and the uneasiness subsided.
With that, the two left their seats, descended the lecture hall, and walked out of the classroom door.
The classmates in the room, already observed by Lin Yi, didn’t include anyone noteworthy in the returned group of Experience Students, aside from Xu Shunkang and the other Sports Students.
When Lin Yi and Li Huiyuan left the classroom, many eyes focused on them.
For instance, Xu Shunkang. And also the Mountain Man.
"Brother Xu, Little Huiyuan and that Lin Yi seem to get along well. Honestly, they look like a couple," a Sports Student whispered.
Xu Shunkang pursed his lips and explained, "Boss said Little Huiyuan had a chance to become a Sports Student only because of Lin Yi. On the day she was desperate due to the Contamination, Lin Yi gave her a lot of care."
"If even animals develop dependency, how could humans be any different?"
"Then doesn’t that mean we don’t stand a chance anymore?" another Sports Student chimed in softly.
"Chance?" Xu Shunkang was dumbfounded for a moment before cracking a reluctant smile. "At this point, and you’re still concerned about this?"
"Brother Xu, you can’t look at it that way..." The Sports Student grumbled, troubled. "The Grey Mist Invasions are frequent, and every evening when the sun sets, we’re all on edge. After such life-and-death struggles, we all just want a bit of sweet love during the fleeting moments of peace..."
"Something simple and pure... I’d even settle for a platonic love."
"There are too many monks and too little porridge—it’s driving us nuts."
"Brother Xu, you wouldn’t want to die in battle still single, right?"
Seeing that this fresh lamb had already been taken, the group of Sports Students couldn’t help but feel frustrated.
Of course, as Sports Students, they desired love but weren’t overwhelmingly desperate. Most of the time, it was about finding solace for their untamed, sentimental hearts of steel.
"Dammit! Say all you want, just leave me out of it! I’m not like you; I’m still chasing after Senior Sister Xia Lian!" Xu Shunkang shouted, throwing up his fists in frustration.
"Speaking of that... Brother Xu, I saw Sister Xia seems to be getting a little close to that guy over there..."
The Sports Student pointed towards Wei Liang, who was lost in an H-manga not far away.
"Of course, I noticed!" Xu Shunkang ground his teeth. "But they’re Experience Students. Once their seven days are up, they’re out. He’s only got tomorrow’s P.E. class left—after that, strangers forever. What am I afraid of?"
Planting his flag with force, Xu Shunkang exuded an aura akin to saying, "You think seventeen cards can take me down?!"
"What about Lin Yi, then...?"
"Don’t overthink Lin Yi. The Boss has already claimed him. That guy’s Contamination Depth is unfathomable. I can’t figure out how he’s still holding onto his ’Experience Student’ identity."
"With his current level of Contamination, if he smoothly leaves campus, there’s no way he could safely board the bus. The authorities won’t let someone like him wander outside organizational structure."
"Brother Xu, are you suggesting that Lin Yi is actually a planted Sports Student?"
"That’s not what I mean," Xu Shunkang shook his head. "I’m just saying, if Lin Yi doesn’t join us, he’ll either be disposed of or absorbed—we won’t see a third outcome."
"If he’s taken out, that would be a real shame."
"Yeah." Xu Shunkang fell silent, glancing one last time at Wei Liang, a frown deepening on his face.
Could it be that Senior Sister Xia Lian likes his type?
Xu Shunkang felt uneasy, regretting how he’d always shined for Senior Sister Xia Lian without discreetly assessing her preferences beforehand. Could it be that Wei Liang’s rogueishly handsome style hit her sweet spot?
Damn it, how careless.
Xu Shunkang’s expression darkened as he felt the Sports Student’s signature Blue Aura in him faintly turning green. He couldn’t help but feel that this Grey Mist Invasion brought far too many worries...
Just then, his gaze sharpened. He noticed the Mountain Man, sitting quietly in the corner all this time, suddenly stand up and seemingly walk in Wei Liang’s direction...
...
On the other side, the Mountain Man had also been watching as Lin Yi and Li Huiyuan walked out of the classroom. Only after they left did he slowly pack up his tools, scanned the room, and refocused his attention on Wei Liang.
Moments later, he started walking toward Wei Liang.
Wei Liang, his head buried in his book, seemed entirely unaware even as the Mountain Man got close.
"Hello," the Mountain Man greeted, his voice low and slightly magnetic.
But Wei Liang didn’t respond at all.
"Hello."
"Hello..."
Repeatedly, the Mountain Man called out, yet Wei Liang remained fixated on his book, entirely unresponsive.
"..." The Mountain Man paused, then reached out and knocked on Wei Liang’s desk.
"Thud thud!!"
Interrupted, Wei Liang reluctantly tore his attention away from his book. "Ugh, quit it, Old Lin. You and Huihuizi can—huh, where’s Old Lin? Oh, you’re the Mountain Man?"
The Mountain Man frowned slightly. "I’m not ’Mountain Man.’ My name is..."
"I don’t care if your name is Wei or Chu Yuxun; just don’t bother me while I’m reading, alright? I have a serious case of morning grouchiness," Wei Liang warned before diving back into his book.
However, the Mountain Man persisted. "You seem familiar. Have we met somewhere before?"
Wei Liang, his eyes back on the page, sighed exasperatedly and leaned back in his chair. "Mister, you must be mistaken. I’m a homebody; how could I have met you?"
The Mountain Man’s gaze bore into Wei Liang, scanning him so intently it felt like X-rays.
"Yesterday, there was a classmate named ’Song Rentou,’" the Mountain Man began. "He disappeared yesterday afternoon and hasn’t shown up since. Does it have anything to do with you?"
