Chapter 81: Chapter 38: The Notice Board in Front of the Gymnasium (Extra 1000 words)

"The lock is...oozing tomato sauce?!"

Lin Yi yanked his hand back as if struck by lightning, and the power-drained napkin fluttered to the ground.

Before it even touched the floor, the tomato sauce spread into an extremely faint dark red mist, much like steam from a sauna.

At the same time, the tomato sauce hardened at a speed visible to the naked eye into white plaster-like fragments and, with a "crack!" shattered on the ground.

The spot on the napkin where the tomato sauce had touched disappeared.

The napkin looked as if it had a hole in it.

Lin Yi instinctively stepped back, his gaze fixed on the white powder near the keyhole.

"So you’re saying...the tomato sauce flowed out of the lock, turned into white powder under the sun, and then... wafted out?"

"But where would the tomato sauce in a keyhole come from?"

He couldn’t figure it out, not one bit.

This problem was beyond his scope; even if he could make assumptions, he had no idea where to start inferencing.

There were absolutely no clues to be found.

He went down the stairs and picked up two small dry twigs, carefully picked up the napkin with them, and then tossed it into the trash can between the classroom door and the office door.

He returned to the classroom, feeling distraught, flipped open his desk, and sat back down.

He let out a long sigh and looked at the pamphlet filled with reasoning symbols he could understand, feeling confused and disturbed.

"The conditions are still too few! I have no idea what’s going on!"

"I absolutely must go back to the dorm to sleep tonight!"

The more he knew, the more dangerous he felt it was to stay in the classroom.

He now even had a paranoid feeling, as if even the homeroom teacher... wasn’t all that trustworthy.

Seeing Lin Yi in such a state, Wei Liang couldn’t sit still any longer.

He patted Lin Yi on the shoulder and said, "You weren’t thinking about knocking on the homeroom teacher’s door just now, were you? The way you hesitated and fretted, you looked just like me when I want to confess my feelings but am afraid of being rejected."

Lin Yi looked at Wei Liang in surprise.

Wei Liang shook his head in resignation and continued, "Don’t worry, even if you fail, it doesn’t matter. When I make it big, I’ll pass on my cherished ’Rich Widows of S City’ contact list to you."

Lin Yi’s mouth fell open in astonishment.

"That’s not... What the heck are you even talking about? In the time it took me to think about things, how did you come up with such a bizarre story, huh?"

"And where the hell did you get some sort of contact list from?"

Wei Liang shrugged his shoulders and waved his hands, "Ah, forget about that, it’s not important... You go ahead and chase after your black-stockinged ol homeroom teacher!"

"..."

Looking at Wei Liang’s smirking advisor-like expression, Lin Yi suddenly felt an itch in his teeth, truly wishing he could press Wei Liang’s head to the ground and give him a couple of thumps.

He folded the piece of paper and tucked it into his notebook, then with a "snap," he closed the notebook and stuffed it into his pocket.

Having done all this, he looked at his watch and compared it to the time on the wall clock.

Both read 14:00.

At this time, students began to rise and head out of the classroom one after another.

Lin Yi guessed they were on their way to the gymnasium, so he turned to Wei Liang and said, "Liangzi, PE class starts in half an hour, shall we go too?"

Xu Shunkang said that arriving 15 minutes early was about right, and taking into account the time it would take to walk there, Lin Yi thought it was time to head out.

Wei Liang glanced at the wall clock, surveyed the classroom, then nodded affirmatively, "Then let’s be off, but let’s try not to get too close to them."

He paused, then leaned in and said quietly, with caution in his voice, "Who knows if they’re acting normal?"

Lin Yi suddenly leaned back, his expression one of surprise, "Liangzi, have you started ’thinking’...?"

"I’m thinking my der! Isn’t that what you said?" Wei Liang glared at him, eyes widened.

"Ah? When did I say that?" Lin Yi was puzzled.

Wei Liang curled his lip, "Consider it an extension of your theory, it’s actually quite simple. Just think of everyone in the classroom, except us, as abnormal."

"A blanket judgment?"

"With no allies anyway, what difference does it make to be indiscriminate or not?"

Lin Yi paused for a moment, then suddenly felt that Wei Liang’s reasoning... somehow made sense.

"Everyone is abnormal..." He mulled over the statement and then nodded seriously, "...except us."

Wei Liang got up with a smile, patting his pants, "Hehe, let’s go to PE class."

"Ouch!" He suddenly let out a yelp, startling Lin Yi.

"Ah?"

Wei Liang slapped his forehead, "I forgot I don’t have shoes!"

"Don’t you have them in your bag?" Lin Yi asked back.

They had brought backpacks, which they had casually dropped by their feet after entering the classroom the night before.

"Please, who puts shoes in their bag?" Wei Liang said incredulously, then added, "My bag just has a few pairs of underwear, I didn’t even bring compressed biscuits this time."

"Alright..." Lin Yi shrugged his shoulders and then added, "You’ll have to count on me, then."

"What?! You’re telling me... you stuffed shoes in your bag?" Wei Liang was utterly astounded.

Lin Yi looked around, found the spot where they sat the previous night, and went over to dig through their bags.

Then he opened his own bag, pulled out a stack of socks, and handed some to Wei Liang.

"I don’t have extra shoes, but I do have socks. Wanna wear several pairs to make do?"

"Sure, socks are better than bare feet... the floors here are quite hard on the feet." Wei Liang didn’t hesitate, reaching out to take the socks, "Hey, you’re still keeping your phone on you?"

"There’s no electronic signal coverage in this campus area anyway, no use carrying it around."
