Chapter 460: Chapter 232 Laredo_2
Among them were two unfamiliar faces, one a man with a hedgehog haircut, the other a punk girl with a nose ring and tattoos all over her body.
The Beggar Gang Disciples responsible for guarding the camp also reported: "Boss, this afternoon we encountered another group coming to deliver goods, looking to make some extra money here, and we caught them."
"Good job, provide them with a daily salary of 200 US dollars, and only let them leave after the work is done," Allen Zhang nodded in satisfaction.
With people eagerly coming to do hard labor, and all of them young and strong, the General Sect Leader naturally welcomed them enthusiastically. Why not take advantage of it?
Work during the day, get injections at night. Think you can finish work before 12 hours? No way!
As for food, no need to worry. The cafeteria offered the same nutritionally balanced meals as Beggar Gang Disciples, with a regular schedule. This 200 US dollars daily salary, you want it or not, you have to take it! Keeping them well-fed and healthy is the rule of the General Sect Leader.
After visiting the camp construction and checking the laboratory where the Priest and a few followers were on liquid diet, the victims who had been injected with the neurotoxin antidote were also recovering a lot from their symptoms and conditions.
The Beggar Gang Disciples were told to pull the little bird helicopter out of the hangar and onto the tarmac where Boketu attempted to start it up, quickly spinning the rotor at high speed, lifting off two meters from the ground with powerful thrust!
After landing back on the ground, Allen Zhang also had the Beggar Gang Disciples move live ammunition from the armory, loading it onto the 30mm cannon, as well as a 7.62mm machine gun, which was fed with a linked ammunition belt. Fully armed to the teeth.
"Who among you is skilled at operating these weapons?" Allen Zhang inquired.
"Boss, I can. I’ve got the professional certification," a Beggar Gang Disciple raised his hand and said.
Allen Zhang couldn’t quite remember his name for a moment. He did not seem to be on the list of Noncommissioned Officers from Armed Nation, and he was not part of yesterday’s operation either, likely having been reassigned to stand guard.
Boketu explained: "He also served in the Air Force as a Private First Class, holds many skills, and knows the basic operations. We’ve also got other ground crew members, from the Army, the logistics department."
The General Sect Leader nodded, that certainly ticked the professional boxes. Sieg had recruited retired military veterans starting with high ranks, all boasting Noncommissioned Officer titles, Sergeant and the like, with the lowest ranking members being Staff Sergeant.
But Sieg’s selections were top-notch ruffians, and as the Beggar Gang grew larger, there were many distinguished individuals from various industries and careers, including a significant number of enlisted grunts.
Many joined the military to earn tuition fees, but ended up not saving enough, facing unemployment upon discharge, and if injured or picking up bad habits, were basically cast aside by society, with no options but to become homeless.
But evidently, the General Sect Leader offered them a second chance at life!
Joining the Beggar Gang, one gets to collect starter equipment at the shelter, station at a branch camp for the wanderer’s meal pack, enjoy a hot shower, and a full meal.
The person in charge would then allocate street employment based on personal records, be it collecting cans or begging, gradually unlocking new career paths and climbing the ranks.
They probably never imagined that being a vagrant could involve so much knowledge!
Allen Zhang arranged for them to board the helicopter, paired with a few men to operate the weapons, better safe than sorry.
After a while, Old Jack also drove up to the mountain camp.
"This little bird helicopter will be piloted by Boketu, and the private plane will need you to pilot it. You should have plenty of legitimate certifications, right?"
Allen Zhang remembered that Old Jack had many Life Skills; indeed, he was a professional ruffian skilled in lock-picking, shooting, driving, kayaking, flying planes—pretty much everything with solid professional driving skills.
"Of course, what kind of ruffian would I be if I couldn’t fly a plane?" Old Jack happily agreed.
Allen Zhang arranged the tasks, instructing Boketu to take off in the little bird helicopter and leave the camp, heading for the Laredo city in US-Mexico Border, while he headed down the mountain in a vehicle with Blitz and Old Jack.
Reaching the airport and sending off the Beggar Gang Disciples, Old Jack took the helm of the Cirrus FS50 Business Jet, with Allen Zhang and Blitz settling into the seats, the latter helping Old Jack plan the flight path and engaging communications with Boketu.
The navigation voice announced: "Current cruising speed 555 kilometers per hour, target location is the public airport in the central urban-rural junction of Laredo, estimated arrival time 3 hours 45 minutes."
Old Jack started the private aircraft, skillfully ascending, and in pursuit of efficiency, maxed out the speed, the jet business aircraft headed toward the US-Mexico border city of Texas at a cruising speed of 555 kilometers per hour.
The straight-line distance from Los Angeles to Laredo, Texas, is about 2,800 kilometers, but air travel saves much more time than driving on the ground, covering only a little over 2,000 kilometers with no interruptions. This business jet has a maximum range of about 2,400 kilometers, requiring no refueling for the entire trip—it actually takes just about three hours.
Allen Zhang put on an eye mask and began to rest with eyes closed, while Boketu was flying the helicopter at 300 kilometers per hour; the little bird helicopter had a maximum range of 500 kilometers and would need several refueling stops at rural airports, reporting real-time updates to Blitz, and would arrive a few hours later than them.
