Chapter 784: An Overt Conspiracy

Yarin's POV:

The person outside the door said, "I don't like complicating things, so I haven't done anything. I just asked them to rest for a while. Don't worry, they won't die."

They wouldn't die, but things in this world were worse than death. I didn't believe that when the fugitive said they were all unharmed, it meant they were completely unscathed.

Lady Charlies asked, "What do you want?"

"I'd like to have a young guest over, and thanks to his company, I've been having a 'good time' lately." The man's voice was filled with resentment, and at that moment, I recognized him.

It was Tyle. He had indeed come with the other fugitives.

"Whoever you're looking for won't be here," Lady Charlies declared firmly, showing no sign of backing down. "Leave now, and I can overlook the rest. The palace will send guards soon, and you'll have nowhere to run."

Security contacts the palace every half hour to ensure safety. As things stand, security must have been defeated, so the palace should get the news soon. But one thing perplexed me: where did the ambush of soldiers outside go?

Security might not be enough, but I was confident that the warriors Mom sent here carry the protection of New Flow and the Moon Goddess. Fearless Lycan warriors, immune to evil powers, should easily overcome a group of disorganized thugs.

But now, how did these fugitives manage to break in?

Lost in thought, I met Lady Charlies' gaze. Her eyes held no fear, which made her calm voice sound meaningful despite her efforts to hold back panic.

Yes, that was it!

I looked out the window, where the rain poured heavily, obscuring everything except misty darkness.

Tyle clearly wasn't concerned about Lady Charlies' threats. He repeated his demand, "I know he's here, madame. Please hand over that delicate little prince, and I'll leave. Your relatives and security will be unharmed.

"Besides, there are so many servants, aren't there? Truly a noble family; even the servants are so pretty. My men are bored, so from now on, for every three minutes you delay, we'll bring in one of the servants to entertain us. On this rainy night, aside from this, there's nothing better to pass the time."

As soon as he finished speaking, the panicked crying of a young girl could be heard from outside, accompanied by coarse laughter.

"Starting now, you have two minutes and fifty-eight seconds left," Tyle said in a slimy tone. One of the servants cowered in a corner, sobbing uncontrollably. She managed to choke out, "Madame, that's Luli. She's my sister, please, my lady, save her. Goddess, save her, please..." Now, the entire room focused on her, then shifted subtly toward me.

Tyle's intention was clear in his words. Even if people didn't know I had tricked him into prison before, they would have enough sense to realize that Tyle's target was me.

It was a cheap trick but undoubtedly effective. Now, the conflict had been subtly redirected toward me.

If an innocent girl was about to suffer 'because of me', should I save her or not?

It seemed like I had no choice.

"Madame," I said softly. "I'll open the door in a moment. I'll have to trouble you to hold them back for now."

Lady Charlies tried to block me. "This is clearly a trap, you can't go out, Your Highness."

"You yourself said it's a trap. That means I have no reason to cower. We can't let an innocent woman become a pawn in this struggle, right?"

The sister of the hostage servant let out a desperate sob.

"But..."

"No 'buts,' madame. I have to do this," I said firmly. "I previously defeated Tyle, and he deserved it. Now he's seeking revenge, and I can't let him have his way. You need to trust me, and you must trust me. Three minutes are short; we can't afford to waste any more time."

With my persistence, Lady Charlies could only reluctantly agree. "Fine, do what you want to do. Though I'm old, my wolves haven't lost their sharp claws and fangs."

I nodded and discreetly glanced at where Cynthia was positioned. She had already vanished without a trace amid this silence.

Heller nodded at me. In times of crisis, we were prepared to give it our all.

"I'll open the door," Lady Charlies said. "But you must promise that no one will be harmed except the one you're after. Otherwise, I assure you, neither you nor your lackeys will ever leave the Lycan Pack again."

"Of course," Tyle responded triumphantly, indicating he had achieved his goal.

Following Lady Charlies' signal, everyone stayed on either side of the door. However, it wasn't her who opened the door-it was me.

I gently turned the lock on the door, and with a soft click, the door swung open.

In the backlight, Tyle appeared before me.

"Good evening, Your Highness," he said with a malicious grin. "Thanks to you, I received special treatment in prison. Your hospitality will be repaid. Now, please come with me."

I didn't move. Instead, I asked, "Where are the people you kidnapped?"
