Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 783: Who
Chapter 783: Who
Yarin's POV:
I immediately woke up the others and told them that the fugitives were likely lurking around the Charlies' estate. "The heavy rain will make security patrols difficult, and any gap could allow them to get in. These moths aren't a coincidence or an accident; they're a provocation." "But aren't they afraid of being discovered by us?" Eden questioned with a mix of confusion and fear. "The whole city is searching for them. It's like they're walking into a trap."
"If they were just ordinary people, then yes, it would be a trap. But if they have evil power borrowed from demons, they can rampage unchecked in the city."
Lady Charlies didn't hesitate to believe me. She ordered all the servants to gather together to prevent anyone from being alone. She also called the people in the front of the house to notify them of the danger and to stay safe.
The security personnel immediately mobilized after receiving the message. Strong werewolves braved the heavy rain, meticulously scouring every trace in the environment. However, the rain posed insurmountable obstacles; it washed away the marks, diluted the scent, and blurred their vision and hearing. After a thorough search, the security found nothing.
Upon receiving this news, I couldn't help but furrow my brow and contemplate.
This shouldn't be happening, right? I was too familiar with these moths; they undoubtedly originated from evil power associated with Azazel. The only suspects in the Lycan Pack are the two fugitives. I couldn't think of anyone else who could have released these moths.
Furthermore, only my window was attacked by the moths. The direction was too obvious. I couldn't help but speculate further.
To make matters worse, the signal from the Charlies' estate was cut off. We couldn't communicate with the outside world now and couldn't even reach the house right next to us, separated only by a garden. Only the radio could connect us with security, but it was intermittent, and the signal was weak as if it was about to disappear the next moment.
"This must be deliberate," Lady Charlies made a quick decision. "Everyone, gather on the top floor with me. The door to the top floor is locked from the outside and can't be opened easily. Bring food, water, and blankets, just in case."
So, the servants hurriedly collected supplies. At that moment, I suddenly realized that Spil was missing.
I hadn't seen him since I woke up. Where did he go?
The rain grew heavier like someone had moved a waterfall into the clouds. Amid the silence, people waited anxiously. Even in the dead of night, no one could sleep, fearing that someone would emerge from the shadows to cut their throats when they closed their eyes.
In this tense atmosphere, suddenly, the locked door was knocked upon.
"Who's there?" Lady Charlies asked in a deep voice.
A man's indistinct voice came from outside, "It's me, Terrell, the head of security, ma'am. There are fugitives hiding outside the estate. For safety's sake, the palace has ordered us to escort everyone to take refuge there."
"The palace?" Lady Charlies countered, "The external communication signal has been cut off. How did you contact the palace?"
"We have an internal network with strong anti-interference capabilities. Besides, my brother is at the palace, and we can communicate via mind-link."
The person outside made a reasonable argument, but it still didn't confirm his identity for us. So, Lady Charlies asked again, "You say you're the head of security, but how can I trust you? There are fugitives outside; how do I know if you're not an impostor?"
"Our code phrase is 'coconut pudding with salt, no sparkling wine'," ma'am."
"But you could extract the code from security through interrogation and learn it from them." "Ma'am, what do you think would verify my identity? I must remind you that our time is running out, and we must leave quickly, or there's a good chance the fugitives will find an opportunity to attack."
Lady Charlies embraced us tightly; her hands were trembling, but she maintained a calm tone as she asked, "Speaking of which, you and I share some distant relatives, so can you tell me the surname of your second aunt's husband?"
Noble families always have complicated and confusing relations, but Terrell? I'd never heard of the head of security having any illustrious background.
There was silence outside for a moment before he said, "I haven't been in touch with my second aunt for a long time, but I remember her husband's surname is Cleo."
Hearing this, Lady Charlies clenched her fist.
"That's not Terrell," she whispered to us. "Terrell's father was an only child, and he doesn't have such relatives."
Then, who was the person outside?
Our silence had started to irritate the person outside. He seemed to understand that he had fallen into a trap, so he abandoned his calm demeanor when posing as the head of security and spoke disdainfully, "Aren't you coming out yet? Dear madame, your relatives are quite concerned for your safety."
"What have you done to them? And Terrell, what have you done to him?" Lady Charlies' expression was stern, and it seemed like she was about to open the door and confront them physically. However, in reality, she was sending us signals, gesturing for us not to act rashly or make any noise.
