Chapter 775: Discernment
Chapter 775: Discernment
Yarin's POV:
Spring outing at Sivir Academy was a major event. All departments embarked on a day of leisure and amusement, spanning a range of ages from six to seven-year-old primary students to twenty-something university students. Naturally, some were easier to manage than others.
Middle school students fell into the less manageable age group, combining youth with rebellion. Having one teacher oversee a class would be exhausting, so each class was assigned a teacher and an assistant.
Coincidentally, our class's assistant was Emery.
After the previous plant collection class, students had grown fond of this refreshing assistant, naturally ignoring the fact that his appearance wasn't much more mature than ours.
On the bus, Emery said to us, "The large grassland is rich in vegetation, showcasing many wildflowers and weeds not commonly seen in the city. If any of you are interested, you can collect some that catch your eye. Tomorrow, I'll teach you all how to make sachets and bookmarks in the handicraft class. Besides that, bringing along some plants you've cultivated yourselves would be meaningful too!"
Heller whispered to me, "Looks like I had foresight! I brought a shovel and sealed bags!"
The name 'Large Grassland' was straightforward and had been used for centuries to refer to this vast stretch of land outside the Lycan Pack.
This was the school's preferred location for the spring outing, offering a naturally fresh environment with abundant vegetation. The perimeter was equipped with mature facilities, and the most important aspect was its proximity to the city - in case of any accidents, the police or ambulance could quickly arrive.
Compared to the carefree university students, middle and elementary school students had to act under the watchful eyes of their teachers. Yet, it was still plenty of fun for the students, as the vast grassland awakened their lycanthropic blood's bold and free nature.
I carefully dug up a wild European parsley plant, which Cynthia had wanted. Suddenly, a commotion arose nearby. Eden ran over from the second-year area, pointing toward us and telling Heller and me, "Quick, look over there! Some university students are fighting; they've even shifted into wolves!"
We hurried over and found several wolves growling and brawling on the grassland. Students on the sidelines cheered for one side, as watching wolves fight was undoubtedly cool for many underage students.
However, someone had already gone to inform the teachers. Soon, several obviously more mature and robust wolves charged into the 'battlefield' and separated the fighting individuals. They faced the struggling wolves with angry roars until they whimpered and slunk away with their tails between their legs - a sign of submission.
The principals of the university department and our school, Ms. Maggie, stood sternly in front of them, questioning the students who had returned to human form about the cause of the brawl.
One of them resentfully said, "It's all those few jerks' fault, ma'am. We wouldn't have gotten involved without their outrageous provocation against the teaching assistant."
Ms. Maggie also asked other students, receiving similar answers.
Then she turned to the students who were pointed at by the crowd, asking, "Regarding what they said, do you have any explanation?"
One of them disdainfully responded, "We have nothing to say. Did I say anything wrong? They're just a bunch of opportunistic losers. Who do they think they're impressing by pretending to be teachers here? Just a bunch of wandering outsiders. What right do they have to self-righteously control us werewolves?"
He glanced contemptuously at the teachers nearby, his eyes filled with disdain.
Among those teachers was someone who stood out - Emery.
At this moment, he was clutching his arm, and there was a hint of blood between his fingers, indicating that he had been injured.
"Get the school nurse over here," Ms. Maggie said.
The dean of the university department also ordered, "Tend to the injured students here, and then everyone, get on the office bus. All students watching, disperse. Teachers, maintain order on the scene."
And so, we were no longer allowed to observe this unexpected brawl.
"You saw that, right? That's Emery, isn't it?" Heller said. "He's a good person, who could he have provoked?"
Eden's girlfriend, Autumn, said mysteriously, "Did you see that disrespectful man just now? That guy is like the Chris of yesteryears to the university department.
"But he's like an upgraded version of Chris. He excels in academics, comes from a good family, and even has a fan base at the university. He's quite popular! A friend's brother also goes to the university department, and that's what she told me."
"What's his name?"
"Willy. Last year, he even ran for the university department student council president position. Though he lost, I think there's still information about his campaign on the forum."
So, we looked up Willy's information and discovered that he held extreme views, harboring disdain toward all races except for werewolves. He even classified werewolves into tiers, believing that imitating ancient practices and revering strength was the correct path and that the weak had no right to enjoy privileges.
Shockingly, these radical opinions also had supporters. Thankfully, the school wasn't foolish enough to let a Nazi sympathizer lead the student council.
