Chapter 772: Not Just Flowers

Yarin's POV:

"A waiter? Is his name Scott?"

"I'm not sure about that. Autumn didn't tell me. Is there something wrong with Scott the waiter?"

"No, it's just that I saw this name in the witness testimony records. Just asking casually."

While we were chatting, the ladies making the flower arrangement suddenly exclaimed, "Oh!"

Instinctively, I looked over and saw Cynthia holding a flower delicately, staring at its center as if there was something there.

"Is it a bug?" I asked. "Plants always have some of those. Don't worry, I'll get rid of it."

As I reached out to take the flower, Cynthia avoided me.

"Although I don't know what it is, I'm pretty sure it's not a bug..." She dryly said, then parted the layers of petals to reveal something at the flower's heart. "If I had to describe it, I'd say it's a Thumbelina."

In a colorful double-petaled lotus, a small humanoid figure lay quietly on the pale yellow pistil. It had a pair of transparent, crystalline wings that refracted a spectrum of colors as they caught the light.

I was at a loss for words.

What was this thing?

Even the knowledgeable Lady Charlies hadn't seen anything like it. She observed it closely and uncertainly said, "I've lived for half a century and have never seen a creature like this. But judging from its appearance, it does resemble a legendary species-a fairy."

A fairy?

It was a term not entirely unfamiliar but also not well-known. I had last heard of it in fairy tales. Fairy were said to be a type of being that had existed on Earth for a long time. They were closely tied to various elements of nature, like rocks, water, wind, plants, and so on.

Fairies were reclusive creatures, content with nature, never partaking in any historical conflicts. As time passed, these beings appeared less and less in people's lives, to the point where many considered them mere legends.

But I knew they had always existed, hidden in the corners of nature, evading detection. There were even academic papers on fairy within the Sorcery Research Association.

I recalled hearing from someone that as beings tied to natural elements, fairies had diverse and complex methods of reproduction. Some were asexual, while others could differentiate into over ten different genders!

But that was a tangent. Back to the present.

The fairy within the flower seemed to be asleep, its chest rising and falling rhythmically, sleeping soundly. It made us instinctively move cautiously, afraid to wake the beautiful being.

"What do we do now?" Heller asked in a hushed voice. "Do we just wait for it to wake up?" I answered with the same hushed tone, "I don't know either!"

Cynthia sighed, looked at both of us, then gently placed the flower on the nearly completed flower basket, whispering, "Let's wait for it to wake up. Hopefully, it'll have a good dream."

Heller stared at the flower for a while and suddenly said anxiously, "But we plucked this lotus. When the lotus withers, wouldn't the fairy..."

Right! When a companion organism died, could a fairy survive?

We didn't wait long, maybe half an hour later, the fairy inside the flower turned over, stretched, and woke up.

Its surroundings seemed to baffle it. After a quick look around, it was startled upon seeing us. It immediately flew into a panic, darting around in all directions.

We had no chance to stop it, only able to watch as it flew frantically in circles for a few rounds before finally hiding within the flower basket, leaving just its tiny head timidly observing us. How should I describe this situation?

"It's kinda cute..." Cynthia whispered, echoing my sentiment.

We tried to approach it, but it quickly retreated back into the flower basket, so we had to give

up.

Lady Charlies softened her voice and gently said, "Don't be afraid, dear. We just happened to pick this flower and discovered you. Perhaps you need assistance? To go back home or find your companions? We can help send you back to the place where this flower grows."

The fairy hesitated for a moment before flying into her outstretched hand, sitting down obediently, and saying, "Thank you, ma'am, but that's alright. My home isn't far from here, and I can make my own way back."
