Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 745: The Trend
Chapter 745: The Trend
Yarin's POV:
Time passed slowly, and soon, February arrived.
It was now late winter, and the weather was no longer as cold, with the snow beginning to melt. Cynthia loved looking beautiful and had already ordered many spring outfits. Lady Charlies dressed her up like a doll, and they were perfectly in sync when it came to fashion.
Heller and I were about to start school at Sivir Academy, where middle school students were required to wear uniforms.
However, this didn't diminish Lady Charlies's enthusiasm for making clothes even the tiniest bit. Heller and I were like mannequins for a whole week, allowing tailors to measure and describe everything to us, drowning us in the intricate world of fabrics, colors, accessories, and more. I realized how much of a country bumpkin I had been before.
Mom wasn't keen on dressing us up-Cynthia excluded-so this was quite a novel experience for us.
Finally, the first day of school arrived.
Early in the morning, Mom and Dad came to the Charlies household, along with Grandma, Grandpa, and Grandfather. Even though I insisted that we didn't need so many people, they insisted on being there to 'send me off on my first day of middle school'.
I had to give a speech at the opening ceremony, and seeing an entire row of royal family members sitting in the audience would surely cause a huge stir. Just the thought of it made me cringe.
The royal family had carefully selected all the newspapers, websites, and streaming platforms covering the event. After all, it was the first day of school, and if any media outlets known for sensational news were present, it could tarnish the image of both the royal family and the Sivir Academy.
The opening ceremony was lengthy, but it wasn't much different from other schools. The only addition was a speech by the prince. Standing on stage, I could clearly feel all eyes on me in the audience—some friendly, some curious, some indifferent, and of course, some disdainful.
In short, after my three-minute speech, I probably had a pretty good idea of how the entire middle school section would view me in the future.
The royal family had sponsored Sivir Academy for over a decade, so it naturally had a strong royalist sentiment. Most of its students leaned toward the royal family and held friendly or neutral attitudes. A few scattered individuals disagreed with the royal family, which was normal, and their presence could be attributed to the influence of a series of royal policies.
Mom had once told me that there are no eternal royal families, and time can change everything. The modern werewolf pack was significantly different from its ancient counterpart.
Dependence on leaders had diminished, and reverence for the gods was no longer mixed with blind loyalty and fear. The Spring Rain Pack was a prime example. It had thrived without an Alpha, sounding a warning for many other packs with Alphas. This had a huge impact on both the packs' Alphas and the general population.
When people realized that a pack without an Alpha could be better off than one ruled by an incompetent Alpha, it was only natural for those who had long lived in poverty and indignity to start thinking of rebellion. During Mom's ten years of governance, more Alphas had been overthrown than in the previous hundred years.
And how did the royal family's Alphas differ from local Alphas? We were simply a higher echelon of Alphas, so it wouldn't be strange for this fire to one day reach us.
I thought this might be why Mom and Dad tried to prevent us from becoming the kind of arrogant, disdainful, and elitist 'typical nobles'. They hoped we would look down and see the real world rather than the elusive and distant clouds.
"The era of civilian rule is coming," she had earnestly told us. "It's the trend of the world, and the werewolf pack has fallen too far behind. But one day, we too will move into a new phase. Perhaps the royal family will still exist for a few thousand years, or maybe the werewolf pack won't need us anymore by the time of your children or grandchildren. But that conclusion will come eventually."
I could recall her expression when she said those words-somewhat nostalgic, somewhat proud.
