Chapter 740: Exchanging Gifts

Yalin's POV:

I originally wanted to scold him a bit, but looking at his watery, shiny, big eyes, I ended up softening my heart and deflating, saying, "I know you meant well, but in the future, you have to follow the doctor's advice and not use your powers recklessly, even controlling a small sparrow!

"If you're worried about your sparrow friends not getting enough to eat, we can tell Lady Charlies to set up a few bird feeders by the window, so your sparrow friends can come to your room and have their meals. That way, they won't go hungry in the winter, okay?"

Heller immediately cheered.

Lady Charlies agreed to our request and quickly brought wood and carpentry tools.

"I was thinking of buying ready-made bird feeders, but I thought maybe you would enjoy doing some handicrafts," Lady Charlies said. Compared to ready-made ones, we would prefer to make our own! Lady Charlies had always been so thoughtful.

Woodworking should have been done outside, but it was still cold out there, so Lady Charlies had a large plastic picnic cloth laid out in the living room. This way, we wouldn't have wood shavings scattered everywhere, making it easier to clean up.

I noticed that Eden wasn't around and asked, "Where's Eden? Isn't he joining us? If he doesn't know how I can teach him."

Lady Charlies answered wryly, "That child is a bit shy. Don't mind him; you guys go ahead and play."

I recalled Eden's panicked departure earlier in the morning and thought for a few seconds before deciding to follow Cynthia's advice and not bother him.

The wood we used was excellent cedar, a bit of an overkill for making bird feeders. We made a total of four, each with a large and shallow grain tray with two round wooden bars across it, allowing many sparrows to eat together. I originally wanted to make a water bowl, but Heller said water would freeze in winter, making it useless for the birds.

We made four because we all decided to take one for Eden, so everyone would have one.

Sparrows were watching us from the sidelines during the process, seemingly aware that we were making something for them. They even boldly came to our heads, shoulders, and palms. The little sparrows felt warm and fluffy, and I found their novelty quite intriguing.

We installed the bird feeders on the windowsills of our rooms and asked the kitchen for some grains to put inside. Soon, birds came for a buffet, not just sparrows; I even saw some glossy magpies coming to fill their bellies.

In the end, with only one bird feeder left, I asked, "So, who's going to deliver this?"

"Shall we go together?" Heller suggested.

"But that might startle Eden; he's already nervous around us. It's enough for one person to go," Cynthia said.

Inevitably, the task fell on me.

"I'm always the one doing things," I grumbled dissatisfiedly.

"But you offended him in the morning, remember?" Cynthia justified. "This is a good opportunity to apologize; a gift will make your actions less abrupt."

"You talk nicely, but you're just trying to manipulate me..."

Although I said that, I wasn't really unhappy about it, so I took the bird feeder and hesitated for a while before knocking on Eden's door.

A few seconds later, the door opened slightly, revealing half of Eden's face. He looked timid as he asked, "Hello, Your Highness, is there something you need from me?"

"We made some bird feeders that can feed sparrows and one for you too." I handed him the bird feeder and the door gap widened slightly, showing more of Eden's figure.

He didn't take it but whispered, "Thank you, Your Highness, but I can't casually accept your gift—I'm not saying I'm rejecting it! It's just, it's just... uhm, I don't quite understand the Lycan Pack's customs and don't know what to give in return."

"Give in return? Don't worry about so many formalities; this is just an ordinary little gift. Don't burden yourself, just take it." I knew that for someone like Eden, you couldn't go through the usual pleasantries; straightforwardness was better.

Eden declined several times, but I insisted, and he finally accepted it.

"Please wait a moment!" He hurried back into the room and returned with something to hand me. "I don't have anything good, but this is a doll I made myself. I hope you and the other two Your Highnesses won't despise it..."

It was three small clay wolves, each about the size of my thumb, cute and vivid.

I couldn't help but sigh, "These dolls are really beautiful, did you make them yourself? You're really talented!"

"No, no, it's nothing. Just some insignificant little tricks..."

Eden seemed very uncomfortable accepting kindness, and my praise made him uneasy. We exchanged a few words before I had to take my leave.

In the end, I didn't apologize for what happened in the morning.

I felt frustrated, but looking at the little dog figurine in my hand, my confidence was restored. Being able to exchange gifts meant Eden didn't really reject us, right?
