Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 730: A Worthless Person
Chapter 730: A Worthless Person
Carolyn's POV:
No one expected her to move suddenly, so even the prison guards were stunned before they rushed to grab her and pin her to the ground.
Despite the rough treatment, Adele kept struggling toward the door, murmuring, "The moon is here... the moon is gone... she's coming, what is the moon, who is the moon... the moon is no longer watching..."
Meanwhile, the prison warden was profusely sweating and apologizing to the former king. I thought his official position wouldn't last much longer; this mansion had been isolated from the outside world for too long, and the guards had long lost their vigilance and the ability to hold the prisoners.
Perhaps the former king would station a new batch of soldiers here, but maybe...
I looked at my father, who was staring intently at Adele.
Even if they were late, compensation had to be given to those who deserved it.
The prison guards tied Adele up, but her continuous struggles and the clumsy actions of the guards made the scene even more chaotic.
Finally, the comical scene became too much for the former king to bear, and he sternly commanded, "Gentlemen, just put Adele on the couch. She poses no threat to us, so there's no need to treat her like a major threat. Now, this room is overcrowded; everyone except the warden should return to their respective posts."
The warden's forehead became even more sweaty.
Another guest arrived before the room could quiet down for a few seconds. The Queen rushed in, clearly just freed from a matter that had been bothering her.
"Oh, goddess, it never rains, but it pours," she sighed as soon as she entered the room. "How is Adele doing?"
The former king turned to his daughter and said, "She has calmed down. It's a bit complicated, and Master Mary will tell you."
So, Master Mary recounted what had happened a moment ago.
After listening, the Queen's fatigue between her eyebrows deepened. She first gestured for the warden to leave and then said helplessly, "I think I know how this thing got in here." Everyone looked at her, including Adele. She stared at the Queen without blinking, giving me the feeling that she had just wanted to run out and find the Queen.
The Queen dropped a bombshell, saying, "Three Lily of the Valley cadres escaped from the secret prison, and it happened this morning. They killed the guards in charge of the cells and performed a sinister ritual using the bodies and blood until it was discovered at noon. According to the Sorcery Research Association's analysis, the array left at the scene is bidirectional, meaning something came through the array's channel as the three fugitives
left.
"The association is still analyzing the residual power left at the scene, but it seems likely to be this thing."
She looked at the bottle, but the black mist inside remained motionless as if it had no interest in her.
"If that's the case, then the final piece of the puzzle is now in place," sighed the former king. "May the sacrificed warriors rest in peace, and we must compensate their families properly."
The Queen nodded and said, "Of course, the compensation program has already been initiated."
At this moment, my father finally spoke, "Sinister ritual, what sinister ritual? Your Majesty, I don't understand what you're saying.'
I was also at a loss. Wasn't the Lily of the Valley a black human organization related to Jasper? How did it become involved with sinister rituals?
In the Queen's explanation, we learned another piece of news that would drive the media crazy.
Azazel's followers founded the Lily of the Valley, a full-fledged cult den.
Azazel, the lingering smoke above the heads of werewolves. Every werewolf remembered the shocking event that occurred ten years ago. No one could have imagined that a legendary demon would brazenly break into the goddess's territory.
And after it was revealed that some ancient noble families were involved with the cult, Azazel's popularity among the werewolves soared.
Only a few people had seen him, but the photos leaked were terrifying enough. Those twisted, evil creatures were not something that belonged to this world. As the demon who created them, Azazel had almost become a terrifying legend among the werewolves, a new generation of horror stories that parents used to frighten their children.
And Adele's adoptive father, the night magus Kafka, was once a follower of the demon. His allegiance was confusing; some said he was Azazel's slave, while others said he was a servant of Leviathan. Either way, as his adoptive daughter, Adele couldn't be unrelated to the demon.
So, did the Lily of the Valley target Adele?
But what was the motive? Adele was mad and couldn't provide any information about the demon. Her magic structure had been damaged, and even though she had the bloodline of a pure white witch, the lack of magic was a fatal blow that would prevent her from ever using sorcery again.
To the Lily of the Valley and even to the demon, Adele seemed to be of no value.
This was also a puzzle that the Queen couldn't figure out. She couldn't understand the motive behind the Lily of the Valley's attack on Adele.
The Queen felt that the mansion was no longer safe, so she secretly transferred Adele to the royal palace. The werewolf grandmasters would construct a new prison for Adele that was safe and kept secret.
