Chapter 534: The Showroom
Lucia paced back and forth in the spare room in Daniel’s house after the party ended. She stayed behind because Daniel wanted to spend time with her.
"Sh*t! Where’s Gastone when I needed him!" Lucia exclaimed under her breath while she bit her nail. She was anxious about continuing her plan but wouldn’t give up that easily.
Due to the large number of guests, Lucia never saw Gastone again after she agreed to marry Daniel. She wanted to talk to Gastone and include him in her plans, but she couldn’t even contact him as if he had vanished.
"Lucia~ Lucia!" Daniel’s voice echoed through the walls as he called for her in a playful tone.
"That b*tch!" Lucia cursed before she fixed her dress and lifted her face to create a happy expression. She went out of the room and saw Daniel gazing at the mirror.
"Oh, you’re so handsome," Daniel whispered lowly while touching his chin, feeling the smoothness of his skin.
Lucia’s mouth hung open in surprise. She raised her brow and watched how Daniel admired himself. A side that she hadn’t seen before.
"Oh! Lucia~ There you are. My beloved wife," Daniel chirped as he skipped toward Lucia, grabbed her hand, and kissed her knuckles. "I already missed you so much."
"I’ve only been away for a few minutes, haha," Lucia stated, laughing nervously as she clasped her hands together. Ignoring how she was being called a wife.
Daniel pouted. "But I missed you already. That shows how much I adore you!" he teased, making a kissing sound.
Lucia’s discomfort grew, but she forced a radiant smile to keep up her facade. She needed to buy herself time, even if enduring Daniel’s unsettling behavior drained her energy.
"You’re so sweet, Daniel," Lucia said softly, her voice laced with an artificial warmth. "It’s flattering, really."
Daniel grinned, his eyes gleaming with a mix of delight and something far more intense. "Flattering? No, my darling, it’s destiny. You and I were meant to be together. No one else deserves you like I do."
Lucia swallowed hard. Daniel’s gaze lingered on her, making her feel trapped, but she remained strong and remembered why she agreed to marry him in the first place.
"I—uh—I’m going to bed. I’m tired," Lucia stammered, attempting to retreat. Before she could take a step, Daniel’s hand clamped onto her wrist. His grip was firm but not painful, though it sent a shiver of unease down her spine.
"Sleep can wait," Daniel said, his voice calm but insistent. "I want to spend time with you, my love. We haven’t had much alone time since the engagement party."
’Engagement party!?’ Lucia exclaimed in her mind. She thought it was just a regular party. Her stomach churned, but she nodded, her smile never wavering. "Of course, Daniel. What would you like to do?"
Daniel’s smile widened. "I thought we could talk. I want to know every thought in that beautiful head of yours. I want to understand you completely."
Lucia’s brow twitched. "I mean, we can do that tomorrow. Isn’t it very late?" she replied, looking at the time, which showed it was already two in the morning. She was also tired, both mentally and physically.
Daniel ignored Lucia’s words as he guided her toward the sofa. ’She’s perfect. Absolutely perfect. Look at her smile—it’s for me, and me alone. I’ve waited for someone like her my entire life. No one will take her from me. Not Gastone, not anyone. She belongs to me. Forever!’ he thought as he stared at Lucia’s face.
Daniel leaned closer, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Lucia, I want to show you something."
’Did he just ignore everything I said!?’ Lucia exclaimed in disbelief in her head while maintaining an intact smile on her lips.
"Of course," Lucia replied, her voice trembling slightly.
Daniel grinned as he grabbed Lucia’s hand and dragged her to another room by the corner. The walls were full of portraits of himself.
"This is my showroom. I don’t particularly show this to everyone since it’s a bit intimate," Daniel stated shyly and stepped aside, gesturing for Lucia to come forward.
"Oh, wow," Lucia said as her mouth hung open in surprise. She wasn’t sure what to feel at that moment, knowing Daniel liked to get himself drawn and collect them. You must have been proud of yourself," she continued sarcastically.
"Haha! Of course! I don’t show it often, but I am proud of my looks! Ah, my family’s genes are the best... and you," Daniel paused, looking at Lucia’s features. "You will bring great genes to our family."
Lucia frowned but forced a smile. "What?" she asked, dumbfounded.
"What do you mean by what? You’re beautiful! Can’t you see it?" Daniel exclaimed as if Lucia was dumb.
"But what else?" Lucia pressed further. She was intrigued and annoyed at the same time.
"What else? I don’t understand what you’re talking about," Daniel shrugged, looking at Lucia as if she was speaking nonsense.
"I mean, what else do you see about me... except beauty?" Lucia crossed her arms, raising a brow at Daniel, who looked like a deer caught by a car.
Daniel opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He did his best to create an answer in mind, but he couldn’t.
’Wow, he can’t even form a lie. I guess his brain is having a short circuit right now,’ Lucia thought as she tried to hide her laughter.
"Umm, so you only want my beauty for the future... genes?" Lucia stated lowly. She bit her lips to prevent herself from laughing, but it made her look like she was hurt instead.
"No! NO! You’re beautiful... but you also have other qualities I like, which make you suitable to be my wife!" Daniel chirped, holding Lucia’s shoulder, and forced her to look at his most enormous portrait in the middle. "When we get married. I want your face painted monthly to preserve that beauty before you grow old."
