Chapter 533: The Stalkers
Gastone’s protectiveness got the best of him as he approached the man. His fist was ready to swing the moment he felt danger.
The man flinched, clearly caught off guard. He turned to face Gastone, his expression shifting from surprise to indifference. He had a lean build and sharp features.
"None of your business," the man replied coolly, shoving his hands into his coat pockets.
Gastone took another step closer, towering over him. "When someone’s lurking outside a shop like you’ve been, it becomes my business. Especially when it’s her shop."
The man raised an eyebrow, his calm demeanor unwavering. "Her shop? You mean Lucia’s?" he asked.
Gastone’s eyes narrowed. "How do you know her name?"
The man smirked, leaning slightly against the lamppost. "I should be asking you the same thing. You’ve been parked there just as long as I’ve been standing here."
Gastone’s wolf bristled, but he held his ground. "Don’t deflect. Who are you, and why are you watching her?" he gritted his teeth as he started to get pissed off.
For a moment, the man studied Gastone, his smirk fading. "I guess we’re both on the same page. I’m Joseph," he stated, extending his hand.
Gastone frowned and stared at the hand but never took it. "We’re not on the same page, Joseph," he said firmly.
"Wow, not even sharing your name?" Joseph mused. He shook his head as if mocking Gastone.
"Gastone," he replied, narrowing his eyes as he observed if Joseph had some weapons with him since he smelled like silver. "Tell me, why are you here? How do you know Lucia?"
"Calm down, one question at a time," Joseph raised his hands playfully.
"You’re a stalker," Gastone stated, describing Joseph without hesitation.
"Yes.... NO! I mean, I’m not a stalker! Geez," Joseph facepalmed. "I’m here because Lucia is putting herself at risk! Who the hell would want to marry a murderer?"
Joseph crossed his hands while shaking his head, disappointed in Lucia’s decisions. Then he realized he had said that to Gastone, a man he had just met. He began to panic.
"Wait, what I said is wrong. Forget about it," Joseph blurted out immediately.
However, Gastone remained stoic as he stared at Joseph intently.
’He knew about Daniel’s business,’ Gastone thought. He was wary of Joseph, but he felt something else.
"Do you like Lucia?" Gastone asked.
Joseph blinked a couple of times, staring at Gastone’s eyes. "Of all I said... You asked me a different topic!"
"If you don’t like Lucia. Then, why are you here? I can sense you’re trying to protect her," Gastone replied. His face hardened as he braced for what Joseph would reply.
"And if I like her. What are you going to do about it?" Joseph stepped forward, getting close to Gastone. He showed he wasn’t scared at all and was willing to fight.
Both men had a staring contest for a few seconds before the sound of the bell coming from Lucia’s door distracted them. They immediately hid behind the post and watched Lucia come out of the flower shop and throw her garbage.
They were holding their breath until Lucia returned inside. That was when they calmed down.
"Ah, I guess we’re both stalkers of the one we like," Joseph shrugged, finding the situation funny.
"I’m not a stalker," Gastone corrected, but he didn’t deny the part that he liked Lucia. "Tell me, how much do you know about Daniel’s business."
Upon hearing what Gastone had said, Joseph’s face stiffened. "I knew she’s making a big mistake and putting her life at risk when she can move on and be happy."
Gastone nodded. He didn’t need to hear more from Joseph as he concluded what he knew and didn’t.
"That’s correct, but forgiving is not easy to do," Gastone replied. He didn’t want to give more detail.
"Well, it’s still not too late to back out. I’m here to talk to Lucia and ask her to run away on her wedding day. I’ll prepare the car and everything," Joseph said his plans to know if Gastone would agree with him.
"What!?" Gastone was flabbergasted as he stared at Joseph with wide eyes. "She’s still unmarried?"
"Wow, you don’t even know that?" Joseph rolled his eyes.
"I... I have been away for a while. I thought Lucia was married by then," Gastone replied as he defended himself.
"No... Umm, well. The wedding was supposed to be a week ago but for some reason. It kept delaying," Joseph hummed as he rubbed his chin. "The next schedule will be two days from now."
"Two days," Gastone whispered. His mind raced as Joseph’s words sank in.
’Two days. Two days until Lucia was married to a man with blood on his hands,’ Gastone thought as he clenched his fists, his nails biting into his palms as he tried to process the situation.
Joseph noticed the shift in Gastone’s demeanor and smirked. "Looks like you care more than you let on, big guy," he teased, leaning against the lamppost again. "So, what’s the plan? You gonna stand by and let her ruin her life, or are you going to do something about it?"
Gastone shot Joseph a glare but didn’t respond immediately. The truth was, he didn’t know what to do. Deep inside, he wanted to take Lucia away but still respected her decisions.
"Your plans... What makes you think she’d listen to you?" Gastone finally asked, his voice low and edged with skepticism.
Joseph shrugged. "She might not, but someone has to try. If she hears my side, maybe she’ll come to her senses. And if not..." He trailed off, his expression growing serious. "Well, at least I’ll know I did everything possible."
Gastone’s eyes widened. Despite Joseph’s smug attitude, his concern for Lucia seemed genuine.
"And if she doesn’t listen? If she goes through with the wedding?" Gastone asked, testing Joseph’s resolve.
"Then I’ll have no regrets since I did everything I could. In the end, it’s her decision... Unless I take her by force," Joseph chuckled playfully. However, his tone had a hint of honesty on them.
